Not to mention half of the people that complain about smoking spend their weekends soaking up sun at the beach. Do you want to ban the sun because of skin cancer
I'm leaning towards, hasty generalization.
I'm in a debate with someone about Smoking in Public places.

"Tu Quoque" fallacy, ie- "you do it too". Basically an attempt to refute criticism through distraction, by attacking somebody or something else.
It's also an example of the black/white fallacy: acting as though anything which is dangerous should be treated as equally dangerous, even if there are enormous differences in magnitude between the two health problems. Melanoma from sun overexposure is estimated by the American Cancer Society to cause roughly 8,000 deaths per year. Cigarette smoking is estimated by the Center for Disease Control to cause roughly 400,000 deaths per year.

I read some older post and I'm going to have to agree with Wong.

Smoking advocates are like religious people; it's pointless to argue with them because their position is based upon what they want to be true, not what the facts lead to. You're better off simply trying to reach everyone else and then use legal force to coerce the smoking advocates into doing what you want, because you'll never convince them through any sort of logic.
I think this guy is worst then a fundie. The whole topic is Smoking in Restaurants, And he goes on a rampage making out like I want him to stop smoking, totally missing the point of this argument, The subject is smoking in restaurants, then he goes and starts talking about drinking and driving fighting in Iraq. And then demands more evidence that proves SHS causes death.
Gunner34 wrote---Ok Vargo you obviously don't get the point, it is our god given right to choose to smoke, it is our body that we are putting through that. Just like it is your right to choose to drive a car, or drink, or sit in your chair at home naked if you choose to do. You are very misinformed about a person's right to choose what they want to do. You have choices you make every day and so don't we. Don't hate the smokers because they live a better life than you do. It is obvious you are upset about your life, don't try and make other people miserable because you are. Suck it up and live with it, Just as every one who don't like drinkers have to live with the bars and people drinking. Such is life, You wanted to be free now live with it or move over to Iraq where you have no rights, not even the right to use the bathroom when needed. We are over there fighting for your right to be able to drive your car where you choose too. Don't knock the "right" to do what you want when you want it may not be here very much longer. And actually we don't laugh off the medical community, we laugh at you and your outrage stories which is what they are. Medical scientific facts is what you need to provide to show proof. Folks just stating well this is part of a cause, where are the scientific facts....there aren't any at this point, which brings me back to my point, if they can't blame one thing they will blame something else. If you don't like being an American who has "RIGHTS" then move from America to a country where you are controlled in everything you say and do.

Sounds like your standard tobacco apologist. You could shoot him down with the usual remarks, such as pointing out the sheer amount of papers done on the damage caused by cigarette smoke, the research done to show the increased possibility of contracting cancer, oh, and not forgetting to point out to this idiot that his right to smoke where my right to breathe begins, etc. etc. But judging from his arguments so far he'd probably just put up a wall of ignorance and repeat his argument ad nauseum.
"It's you Americans. There's something about nipples you hate. If this were Germany, we'd be romping around naked on the stage here."
Not that the Bible would be juristucally relevant even if it ever mentioned smoking this guy comapares sun overexposure to smoking. I'm not sure I can cook up a plan to force sun overexposure on somebody, especially indoors.
I rest my case.

No, it is NOT your "god-given right" to rot my lungs. And, it is my business, who is the one who pays billions for healthcare for smokers every year? Actually, I remember going to cathecism and one thing they told is god wants us to take care of our health.
Not to mention the fucking sun is the ultimate source and support of all life on Earth. It's value cannot be measured. And yet, no one needs cigarettes. What a surprise, a tobacco apologist who's dumber than shit.
Its also an invalid analogy (not sure if thats an actual fallacy) since there is no such thing as "second hand UV radiation from sunbathers".

A discussion in another forum I came across this post
I don't think that any of us got far enough into the post to get interested. The truth should not take that much explaining! Keep it concise or you lose by default!
What kind of bullshit/Fallacy is this??
In short this was a discussion of the validity of Jesus.
The fundi did a cut and copy from a website probably.
And anti-fundi counter pointed his whole post.
If you like I would be more then happy to post the entire counter post from the anti-fundi.

Sure, but start a new thread on the fundy. Don't necro an old one. I imagine Ghost Rider will be along any minute now to lock this one.
