Top Ten Video Game Weapons

Once again curtosyYou Tube

Some of the choices are nice, some are dubious. All I know is that the original BFG? NOT the #1 pick.

Since when is the Gravity Gun the greatest weapon in gaming ? It may be innovative and fun but it's not what I'd think of in terms of "truly great".

The laptop gun is an odd choice too, especially when PD had a far greater weapon - the FarSight XR20.

The Farsight was evil - evil I tell you - a bloody camper's dream. Sniper rifle that shoots through walls? No thanks
'Ai! ai!' wailed Legolas. 'A Balrog! A Balrog is come!'
Gimli stared with wide eyes. 'Durin's Bane!' he cried, and letting his axe fall he covered his face.
'A Balrog,' muttered Gandalf. 'Now I understand.' He faltered and leaned heavily on his staff. 'What an evil fortune! And I am already weary.'

It's not that bad, actually, but the fact that they had to go and give Halo anything, and so high on the list too, proves they are still lowest common denominator media whores. Halo's sword is nothing but a common melee weapon, the model could be a crowbar or a wrench or a bat and the effect would be the same, picking it to represent swords at all is a travesty.

The energy sword spot rightfully belongs to Jedi Knight II: Jedi Outcast, not only was it released earlier than Halo 2, there was a whole different gameplay dynamic when using a lightsabre, more so when dueling. It also featured dismemberment

Grav gun, well, i do agree it belongs in the list, not so sure about first spot, but it still very high up there. The list is also missing the land shark torpedoes.

The first see through walls sniper rifle i remember is also not on perfect dark, it's in Red Faction, that game was a pretty sweet for multiplayer.

No, they're missing the only gun in the entirety of videogame history that makes you form an emotional dependence on it.

The Assault Rifle in System Shock 2.

It wasn't big, it wasn't flashy, but it was pretty much the only gun in the game that could reliably take on mutants and robots. You felt safe with that gun in your hand. Which for Shock 2 is a big deal, because safety was a rare commodity there.

I needed that gun, needed it like air.

The gravity gun blurring the boundaries between genres? Uhm... how about no? Who wrote that? Wow, you can pick shit up and throw it away, that's so innovative. Or so my Super Mario Bros. 2 box says (well I don't think it does really but you get the idea).

Besides, the fun factor of the blue shell from Mario Kart is superior to the red. Also striking fear into your human foes by nailing them with green shells is also much more fun than those pussy red ones 8)

Futhermore, the greatest weapon ever is of course the Tanooki suit from SMB3. The Hammer Bros. suit is the second greatest.

Because it's an FPS only list only Golden Eye, Fable and Battlefront qualify.

Prehaps the crazy sword/gun from FFXIII will qualify once that's released if the game is acutaly a hybrid FPS/RPG.

What was that game with the Landshark Gun? that was pretty cool.

Oh, and the World's Most Interesting Bomb from MDK. You place it like a landmine, all the enemies wander over, stand round it going "oooh" and "that's interesting", then it explodes :)

Are they kidding with the laptop gun? That thing was incredibly broken, weaker than any of the assault rifles and even a couple other SMGs, and would fire all its ammo at a single target even after it was dead or no longer visible.

Where is the Lightsaber?

It was much more useful than the Halo energy cutting toy. It gave me great satifation to play baseball with turrets in Jedi Knight!

It attacks it blocks...its practically a swiss army knife....

Indeed, the Halo sword is just the 15 year old bog standard melee weapon, only with an energy sword model. The list lost my respect for mentioning it and leaving the Jedi Knight series' lightsabre out.

Perhaps they are calling the Lightsaber a movie Weapon and not a game weapon.

The Dark Forces Dark Trooper Blaster and rocket launcher deserves honorable mention as well as does the Rail Detonator from Jedi Knight.

And I loved the Concussion Rifle!

And the Railgun was a bit low on the list for my taste as well. It's one of those weapons that changed the way the whole game is played when it was invented. Just like the Minigun from DooM.

The automatic shotgun in Goldeneye was indeed a vicious weapon. A well trained opponent with a shotgun operating in close quarters was damn near unstoppable.

The Farsight is hands down the ultimate camper's weapon. God, I hate that fucking thing. If you played one shot-one kill on PD, the Laptop was quite the vicious motherfucker just because of the amount of bullets you could spray a room with.

What was the game that had the Flamewall in it? Basically, you would send a wall of fire racing down the board, frying every victim in its path. Then, you would see the charred, still-standing skeleton of your victim crumple into a little ball of ashes.

Dude, the Concussion Rifle from the original Dark Forces was awesome. I loved that gun so much.

I do feel that the Grenade Launcher from Quake 1 deserves to be up there. It was one of the first weapons of it's kind. (Able to bounce off things, stick to things, ect.) I think the level that made me truly love it was Ziggurat Vertigo, though. I love that fucking level... grenade launcher, ogres everywhere, and low gravity with lots of platforms and open space. Wooha!

Snarks from HL1 also deserve a spot. I mean, seriously, they were fucking awesome. I loved throwing like 5 of them down a hall and hearing the marines waiting in ambush take it up the tailpipe.

Yes the Concussion rifle was so nice when it wasn't being shot at me.

That weas the only annoying part of Dark Forces. The Conc hurts me up close but not them.....BUT it was so awsome to spot a Bosck before they spot me and give him a taste of his own medicine!

The Dark Forses and Jedi Knight series gave us a ton of cool toy plus in Jedi Knight you can use force pull to yank guns out of target's hands.....Oh I loved doing that to Boscks and stormtrooper(yellow patch)
