She said she doesn't like reading several times on the Jedi Council forums. I don't feel much like searching for examples (Traviss was, incidentally, a bit of a spammer back when she posted there) but the posts are there if you look.

Forgive me, what is a "JOURNO"? Does that mean something in Mando'a?

Also, as someone who is a big enough nerd to fabricate fictional languages, using an apostraphe to make something sound exotic is the first sign you don't know what you're doing. Never use apostraphes unless it is supposed to signify a sound that doesn't exist in the english language (like a glottal stop), and never do basic word substitution.

LOL....does anyone think this Karen Traviss quote I found is rather....ironic given the current circumstances?

"People in big important jobs do stupid things. Then they try to cover them up, which is even more stupid. "

Not that KT has a "big important job", but thought it was funny in an odd way. :)

BTW, as far as the "KT hates reading bit", here's a starter. Post 59.

Since when do journalists naturally have an aversion to reading (as she implies they do naturally)?

Oh please, you think she is intelligent and dedicated enough to actually try and understand the intricacies of creating languages? Shit like that takes research and planning. We all know exactly how much of that she does.

When basic logic is beyond someone's comprehension, you don't expect for them to be able to do any more than pure world replacement and random sprinkling of apostrophes. I doubt she even has real word modifiers or rule sets for tenses.

What galls me is if she'd typed "create a language" into google, that would've been on the first link available.

As far as I can gather (from Wikipedia), Mando'a contains about three types of word modifiers, some of which are single letters with, you guessed it, an apostrophe at the end. It also seems to lack tense completely.

Well, I haven't actually read any - started on a few, leafed through a few, but by and large, nada. Seriously. My inability to read is well known - I hate reading, and I can't absorb data from fiction. And riffling through a manuscript on scan to find continuity stuff isn't reading, because you filter out so much. (I speed read at two seconds a page, and it might work for reports but it doesn't work for fiction - not for me, anyway) Ask Troy how many times he had to remind me what was in DN.

Del Rey tried audiobooks for me, which I enjoyed as much as radio drama, but I didn't recall a damn thing. Basically, everything I get comes from the Holocron. Data. I process data. Once I see words, I start to edit.

It's impolitic to name any colleague's book, but I loved the SW tourist phrasebook. Hilarious.

Okay, colour me stupid but what is the difference between reading words in a printed book and reading words on a Valendamned webpage?
'Next time I let Superman take charge, just hit me. Real hard.'
'You're a princess from a society of immortal warriors. I'm a rich kid with issues. Lots of issues.'
'No. No dating for the Batman. It might cut into your brooding time.'
'Tactically we have multiple objectives. So we need to split into teams.'-'Dibs on the Amazon!'
'Hey, we both have a Martian's phone number on our speed dial. I think I deserve the benefit of the doubt.'
'You know, for a guy with like 50 different kinds of vision, you sure are blind.'

Interesting, given that I hate reading on the PC.

Where is this from?

I may have a good use for it, if it has a verifiable source.

It's from thisinterview. It's a bit long and wordy, I wound up skimming a lot of it. It's in the third paragraph of the first question asked of her. Hope it helps.

Or to be more precise, books tend to have a lot more words in them than webpages do. Webpages are, to a large extent, designed for people with limited attention spans.

Geez. she's still ranting about this how many months after? I'd mostly forgotten (or more precisely) ignored this and moved onto other and more interesting things. I guess she hasn't for some reason.

Edit: Oh yeah, and is it just me, or does she seem to have changed her story again? Now she's trying to come across as if she's some dedicated SW analyst just like Saxton and that makes her a serious SW something-or-other.)

Every time someone has even the smallest negative comment on her work, she'll retort that her Star Wars stories are "real" and rough, and some people don't like facing that...

"Real" is one of those great totally meaningless compliments. Wow, that story is totally real, dude ...

Wait, is she now saying that we hate her because we can't like mature, realistic and gritty stories? And here I was thinking that she sucked because she had a pair of ovaries, and that I could make a name for myself on the internet by going after her.

Anyone who thinks that a story based on Rambo-like "uber special forcez" is realistic is a complete, utter idiot.
"They're not triangular, but they are more or less blade-shaped"- Thrawn McEwok on the shape of Bakura destroyers

"Lovely. It's known as impugning character regarding statement of professional qualifications' in the legal world"- Karen Traviss, crying libel because I said that no soldier she interviewed would claim that he can take on billion-to-one odds

"I've already laid out rules for this thread that we're not going to make these evidential demands"- Dark Moose on supporting your claims

The PLB have deleted my two comments I left. They don't want to be associated with the "KT Stalker".

I don't want to be associated with the PLB. I like my testicles right where they are.

Basically, welcome to my world. Then I posted a link to my page refuting Moose's bullshit. Got neutral to positive response until Moose Christ decided to forgive the PLB. Now they won't have anything to do with anyone nasty!

I was in email contact with one of them, and got a positive response. I expect that person was "converted" too.
