Complete Incredible Cross-Sections to be released

Post by Mange »

I haven't seen an official announcement, but according to Amazon, the Star Wars: Complete Incredible Cross-Sections of Vehicles will be released on April 16, 2007 and it'll be written by Dr. David West Reynolds and Dr. Curtis Saxton (I guess it's for the expanded parts in addition to what has already been written).
Finally!

I hope they do what the Complete Visual Dictionary will do and include new ships. Namely the Executor and Home One. There's so much from the original trilogy that could be added.

Hopefully Dr. Saxton finds a way to squeeze in a "quadrillions of troops" statement, just to piss KT off. :)

I don't believe Curtis is involved with it at all.

Yes, well, most likely not. Still, there's hope he's caught wind of this debate somewhere and is on the case to deliver an ICS smackdown unto it.

You mean despite the fact that it says BY CURTIS SAXTON on the Amazon ad?

They give the authors credit for past work.

I was accounting for there being expanded parts where potentially revealing statistics may or may not appear. I wasn't counting on it or anything. Mange mentioned it, I don't know if there will actually be an expanded part.

That's right. Curtis is involved in RL research at the moment. Last time I spoke to him about the DK books, he said he no longer has anything to do with them. But 2007 is a long ways away...

Yes, I knew that I shouldn't buy more than one more ICT.
I hope they add more ships this time (As well as giving more numbers on HTL firepower, or the firepower increase of a ISD compared to an Acclamator), as well as some more details (As others have said, Quadrillions would rhyme so well with Quintillions :P ).

I do have the ROTS and original ICT, but I'd gladly shell out for this if they do add more stuff by Saxton, capital ships mainly to be precise :D

I'd be happy if they got Dr DW Reynolds back- his contributions were generally good.

I would like it too, but the ground sentiment dominated by ignorant fools are against any book with ICS stuck on to the book, regardless who writes it, except perhaps that attention seeking whore called KT.

And no doubt those same said fools would say Reynolds is a Saxtonian ally too.

I have the original four books so I don't have any great need for it anyway. I also wouldn't expect to much, especially after the way they managed to rape Dr. Saxton's work the last time out. Its just another Lucasfilm money grab. I expect, any new entries, if there are any to be of similar quality to the new essential guides.

I refering to the removal of SI units, and there replacement with rather vauge quantifications. It also seems that the edited him pretty harshly. There is a lot that ended up on the cutting room floor. Somes filtered out in othe places, but he even mentioned it in one of his SW.com interviews.

Saxton is one of the few authors that I trust with fleshing out the SW universe in a realistic and intelligent way, so I'm pretty happy to see this.

Things I'm hoping to see:

-Home One, the Communications Ship, some of the other big ships in the comics, and other things that have been poorly covered in previous EU

-A little more about the Tector (perhaps in a small blurb on a page about the ISD)

-Saxtonized WEG ships (dozens and dozens of identical turbolasers are not consistent with the way ships are armed in the movies), with quantified with SI units or with SI units that aren't retarded (starfighters with a top atmospheric speed of 1,000 kph  )

-A few bits of info dropped in here and there showing the huge scale of the SW galaxy
"They're not triangular, but they are more or less blade-shaped"- Thrawn McEwok on the shape of Bakura destroyers

"Lovely. It's known as impugning character regarding statement of professional qualifications' in the legal world"- Karen Traviss, crying libel because I said that no soldier she interviewed would claim that he can take on billion-to-one odds

"I've already laid out rules for this thread that we're not going to make these evidential demands"- Dark Moose on supporting your claims

As it stands I'm gonna say no new material in this one. That's based off the fact that DWR apparently cut ties with LFL (note Luceano wrote the VDs and they had someone new come in for the Ep 3 Complete locations sections), and Dr. S is currently not under contract for anymore LFL products (though when he was he was incredibly tight lipped about it as well).

That said, if there is new material and they bring either back I won't complain. I'd prefer Dr. S but DWR had only a few things in there that were really dumb and that was more him trying to make the best of a bad stuation. Plus DWR has shown himself to be very technically minded (eg the 160 kn DS1)

I would agree that if it's just a rehash of what I already have, I see no need to cough up more money for the cash cow. Now if there is new content; especially OT content, then I'll gladly shell out the clams for it.

It was always a travisty that the OT got one book, I'd like an entry for the Neb-B (retcon the stupid landingbay thing away) and the three Mon Cal ships (retcon the stupid *headquarters frigate* thing as well as the idiotic *every mon cal ship is a work of art and different* crap and if I'm lucky, get rid of the *Home One* as a class name). And the grand fold out center piece aloted for the Executor. :D
They say, "the tree of liberty must be watered with the blood of tyrants and patriots." I suppose it never occurred to them that they are the tyrants, not the patriots. Those weapons are not being used to fight some kind of tyranny; they are bringing them to an event where people are getting together to talk. -Mike Wong

But as far as board culture in general, I do think that young male overaggression is a contributing factor to the general atmosphere of hostility. It's not SOS and the Mess throwing hand grenades all over the forum- Red
