WotC to release updated 'Saga' edition RPG for SW
It's not been anounced by the company yet, but its been confirmed on both their site forums by and on Amazon. As a matter of fact, the Amazon product listing is right here. A new hardcover rulebook, at 288 pages is a lot of material for those of us who love to do the pen-and-paper systems. Hopefully, it will be correct in the ship particulars, and it won't perpetuate KT jelly's 3 million falsehood.
This is a link to an EN world discussion of the book sighting on amazon, that the authors showed up in. Also contains one long time DMs list of things that need fixing.
Thoughts? Or are the Denizens of SD.net not giving a shit?

Interesting... hopefully it includes new continuity and not just rule changes. I love the sourcebooks, but not for the gaming crap.
They really need to start publishing new sourcebooks though. The Clone War, Legacy of the Force series, Legacy series, second half of the New Jedi Order, and Knights of the Old Republic franchise in particular are in need of sourcebooking.

Considering how conservative they when it comes to changing their games and how they basically translated WEG stats wholesale, I wouldn't get my hopes up.Solauren wrote:They had better publish realistic ship and vehicle combat rules, and accurate stats, or else........

Why isn’t that ever an issue of politics? Because you don’t live in a democracy. You live in a plutocracy. Money rules.
That's not really fair, though. They did after all rip out WEGs workable and effective system for handling damage between starships in favor of a frankly ludicrous hitpoint system. More damning still, I don't see why they did. What purpose does a unified damage system serve? Are we honestly expecting the gamemaster to roll the damage if a player uses Plex missiles against a fucking Star Destroyer, or what?Imperial Overlord wrote:Considering how conservative they when it comes to changing their games and how they basically translated WEG stats wholesale, I wouldn't get my hopes up.Solauren wrote:They had better publish realistic ship and vehicle combat rules, and accurate stats, or else........

I'm not a huge fan of WEG game mechanics but the d20 starship combat system does suck monkey balls. As for why they did it, thats obvious. Because it was d20 way of doing things and it isn't ludicrous when you are dealing with small vehicles. They just extended the same system all the way up to Star Destroyer scale, another reoccuring problem with d20.

I definitely agree that there needs to be some kind of overlap, but the granularity of hitpoints is far too fine, and this grows more apparent the larger the vessels become.Imperial Overlord wrote: I'm not a huge fan of WEG game mechanics but the d20 starship combat system does suck monkey balls. The idea of hit points is not one I'm necessarily against, it just makes little sense to handle everything using the same system here. Human beings are relatively dissimilar from mile-long starships, after all.

And if I ever end up running Star Wars I'll grab my copy of GURPS Space and check out this site and the tech commentaries for info.
The closest D20 has come to being more than Dungeons and Dragons yet again was D20 modern, and that still left me with a sick, slimy feeling.
Still and all, maybe a new edition of Dungeons and Jedi might bring more people into the hobby, who then can be weaned off WotCrack.
