In the Dune books they refer to the Orange Catholic Bible.

Does this imply a future merging of the Roman and Anglican Rites, much as the apparent merger of Islam and Buddhism in ZenSunni?

Actually in Dune they explain the creation of the OC Bible in actually great detail.

Apparently it's the merging of all religons into something that is actually more Buddist than anything else.

The Orange Catholic Bible was written during the Butlerian Jihad and from what i gather it merged all the religons of "old tera". When you back is against the wall and some terminator wannabe's are after your ass as a trophy religon seems pointless.

The origins of the O.C. Bible should be better explaned in the new book KJA and Herbert's son wrote, The Butlerian Jihad.

I don't think the OC Bible was ment to make one universal religion. Rather it was written to make one single holy religious book, one that would not allow for religious wars about which book you should follow.
