Vanas wrote:Admiral, the Indefatigable is a Type 45/Daring class. It's capable of bringing along some naval Storm Shadow cruise missiles if needed.

For the shipyard crew, we had a quartet of extra 40mm guns added, two fore, two aft, and the torpedo launchers and Harpoons fitted.
Modifications made, and I took the liberty of tossing up the new pennant number for your Type 45.

Edit: I notice that U235 left you at D99, was there a reason for that? D38 is next in the Daring line, I believe. Regardless, changing back to D99 pending naval inquiry.

Edit Again: Ah, inquiry concluded, returning to D38. General Relihan, do you wish to dispatch a Marine detachment to the Indefatigable?

It's the D99 because it was previously a Type 42. Personally, I don't mind. Depends whether your paint crews can be bothered to re-paint the side of the ship.

On a side note, I have room onboard for 60-odd marines if they'd like any more room.

[I could captain one of the Attack Submarines.

My Resume:

*2 Years [RL] Naval *cough* JROTC Experience

[From here on out, everything out-of-character I say will be in brackets. If this gets moved to G&C, and we make an actual RP out of it, people may want to create characters that aren't a complete self-insertion. If anyone wants to do that, please provide your name (real or fictitious), nick (screen name or something else, if applicable) and a brief backstory including country of origin, career and prior experience. It's up to you guys, but you might want to wait until the admiral's approved a campaign setting. I will keep track of PC officer and enlisted personnel files.]
[I suppose we can put that here as:
Name: Matthaios Metaxis [Fictitous]
Country Of Origin: Greece
Career And Prior Experience: Awaiting Campaign Setting Type Thing To Get My Chronological Bearings.

All the subs are taken Mate, if you want a CO position look at either the Dewy, Alamo, or the as-yet unnamed LSD. :P

Or apply for XO, Air Boss on a small boy, etc.

Admiral Bucher background.

Bucher was commissioned through NROTC at Texas A&M university, going straight into the naval aviation program. He has spent most of his professional career flying A-6 Intruders, but with the general phase out in the USN, and failing eyesight, he turned to the SWO community, becoming CO of the Shreveport as a Commander, following as XO of the Bataan, and finally, Captain of the Theodore Roosevelt. Matthew "Lonestar" Bucher was eventually tapped to command the Arcadia strike group for the CTF 81. This is Lonestar's first Flag command.

If we take some more, I'd recommend an Alfa-class, with an updated reactor. Having one of the fastest and deepest-running attack submarines ever would be badass.

Captain Metaxis, what is your ship's class, pennant, (can be provided for you if you do not know) and honorific?

What are you smoking? ESG's normally have one SSN attached to them, as do CSGs. Most SSNs are off doing their own thing. No doubt spying on our coalition "partners".

EDIT: Of course, this is all up to our esteemed Task Force leader. I apologize for jumping the gun.

Yes, I think having a detachment within the main fleet would be a prudent measure. A company?

As much as I respect your naval experience (and will no doubt call upon it in the future), I do not believe that adding another submarine to the group is a bad idea. However, I think only one more is required, at least attached to the ESG. And besides, the Admiral has indicated some interest in expanding their numbers.

By the way, Colonel Tychu, report in if you're out there. I want to ensure that your still attached the the task force, so to speak.

I have orderd a platoon to take up quarters on the Indefatigable, and am presently in search of captains willing and able to accomodate the remainder of the company.

You are aware that the Alfa's 900m diving depth was a clever disinformation ploy.

I'm all in the spirit of international cooperation, and the Soviets did make some of the best submarines, but being a Greek Captain on a Soviet Ship would be extremely strange, wouldn't it?

Unless, of course, in this universe things went all pear-shaped for Greece in the late 40s and Commander Metaxis is actually from the Socialist Republic of Macedonia...

Not at all. The design is Soviet, but the crews of all our ships are pretty multi-national.

No it's not. It's firmly in the 350-450m range, just like most other SSNs. Mike was the only SSN that could go that deep (and survive).

Paring it down to one additional attack sub. The original number I envisioned was based on what I thought were four attack subs in the picture in the OP (a poor basis, I know).

The Lira [NATO: "Alfa"] class was an experimental class. I would suggest that the Shuka [NATO: "Akula"] would be a superior boat; Wikipedia seems to suggest that the Shuka is a quieter boat, and in submarine combat, quiet is what counts.

This may have been changed pre-Incident. Do I need to change D99 to D38?
Commander Vanas wrote:They're from Space Battleship Yamato (Starblazers), if I recall correctly. Truly, a fine vintage.
Actually, the "heritage" remark was a reference to the series Space Pirate Captain Harlock, in which Harlock's ship - the Arcadia - carried two starfighter squadrons named the Cosmowings and the Space Wolves.

It is entirely possible that it was D38 pre-incident, as it should have changed along with the upgrade to a Type 45.

By the way, how is the Arcadia with regards to a Marine presence? :P

I do believe that the "Undetermined third amphibious assault ship" was my Ocean-class Assault Carrier.
Marcus Aurelius: ...the Swedish S-tank; the exception is made mostly because the Swedes insisted really hard that it is a tank rather than a tank destroyer or assault gun
Ilya Muromets: And now I have this image of a massive, stern-looking Swede staring down a bunch of military nerds. "It's a tank." "Uh, yes Sir. Please don't hurt us."

None that I know of, which should be remedied. Captain Pick should really be in on that, though - might want to PM her regarding that. Just be sure to let me know the CO and unit size/number of Arcadia's Marine detachment.

[Indeed I too was thinking of an Akula, okay, preliminary submission. I'm not a big expert on Soviet submarines so I hope I got everything right here. The number is the least sure thing, since the Soviet system seems to defy all attempts at chronological order and they reuse numbers occaisionally.

K-502 V. K. Konovalov*, Shuka-B class (NATO: "Akula II")
Commander Metaxis

*I can't resist the reference, even if it's the wrong class. :P
And even if only the heroic or important Soviet subs recieved names, I think being in this taskforce is an important enough task to get a name, right? Plus it'd be rather boring to just be K-502.

I propose that we find a small country to invade, have a huge party there, and then leave.

Or we could go TP the Royal Navy.
