I'm a drug=AIDS proponent, so obviously I don't believe in vaccines and the such since it was not caused by a virus in the first place. There is not going to be any silver bullet for the disease.

My stand is to discourage drug taking(just like smoking), and failing that, for scientists to develop anti-drug compounds that can counteract the toxic effects of drugs on the human body(more drugs, yeeaarch!).

Some medicines that are necessary for certain people with medical conditions can also cause immune deficiency. Again, maybe science can provide alternative drugs that do not cause immuno-suppression.

In a Ben Elton book i read he theorised that the Cure for Aids has been discovered, the only problem is that any asshole with a chemistry set can make it, they are simply waiting tilly thwy can hide the formulae in a complex hard to re-produce coumpound.. That is very close to what I think is actually happening.

In this age HIV and aids should be lessening. Condoms are freely available and Junkies can get loads of advice on safe drug use etc. If a person is careful they won't get it.

Ugh. Listening to *some* suggestions about curing AIDS, I say: UGH.

Antiretroviral agents exist, yes, and vaccines are being tested (I believe Thailand has some big research going on in that department), but that's as far as we have come. The bottom line is that we don't know enough about HIV. The only 'sure kills' are, unfortunately, isolation and termination of the host prior to further infection.

Right now, the best 'cure' for AIDS is to prevent the spread of HIV, and the way to do this is, duh, don't do drugs, keep your pants on, and try not to get into any knife fights. I realize that I'm being enormously flip and general, but if every person on the planet took the time to become educated, care about the threat, isolate themselves if they were infected, exhibit some preventative caution (ie, regular testing for HIV and honest sharing of the information), the threat could be dampened to only a piddling handful of cases a year.
