It's kinda odd to read a fic where the Daleks are the most sympathetic of all factions involved. But odd in a good way! I like it very much.

In English? I wasn't aware that they were available in any other language.

You could try Big Finish's own shop and I've also seen them on Amazon and play.com

Blue-white beams from Dalek gunsticks flashed across the square. Vanar stepped away from the corner and motioned his men back. "Give me some covering fire," said Trevon. "I can make it."

"You don't have a chance," Vanar hissed. "They'll gun you down before you get three meters." Vanar checked his gun again nervously. His unit consisted of four men, including himself. The tempermental submachine gun in his hands was their best weapon. "We'll find another way around."

"If we don't get to the armoury now," said Trevon, "or our people are dead. We don't have time. We need to get to those weapons before they cut us off completely."

"We'll move around-" Vanar began.

"Cover me," hissed Trevon and dashed into the square.

"Damn it!" Vanar swore and dropped to his knees as he edged out around the corner. He fired a long burst at the pair of Daleks covering the square. They ignored the bullets that splattered off of their casings, instead swivling to bring their weapons to bear on Trevon.

Vanar was wrong. Trevon got five meters before he was enveloped in a blast of blue-white light and collapsed. "Die!" shouted Vanar as he continued firing. A Dalek swivled its gunstick toward him and fired. There was a flash of pain and then oblivion.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

"Obey!" Delta cried. "Obey or you will be neutralized!"

The Kaled soldiers responded by kicking in another door. One fired his pistol twice into the room. There was a scream and a thump. A shrill cry rang out. Delta's data banks recognized it as being a word in the Thal langauge. "Mommy!" Another shot and another thump. The Kaleds turned to another door.

Delta fired at the Kaled with the pistol. He fell, illuminated by a flash of light. The other instinctively turned and fired, bouncing bullets off the Dalek's casing. Delta fired again and the Kaled fell.

The Dalek was still for a moment. He had killed his progenitors, the race which had given birth to him. But what else could he have done? They had not obeyed orders. They had murdered and would have continued to murder. He had no choice but to kill.

He knew what he had to do. The activated his radio. "Emergency! Emergency! Kaled troops are killing civilians! I was forced to kill two."

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Alpha recieved a communication transmition. "This is Alpha," she said.

"This is Gamma. We have secured the Thal missle site. The Thals have started a counter attack. The strength of the attack is not commesurate with the utility of the target. Supposition: additional high value site in close vicinity. There is a reinforced structure which may be an armoury. Thal troops around it have been neutralized and the doors flash welded closed."

"Status?"

"We are holding."

"I will dispatch Kaled troops and an additional Dalek as reinforcements."

Alpha turned to give orders to the Kaleds. Unlike the Daleks, they were not all equiped with radio gear. Her audio sensors were picking up a lot of gunfire, more than should be necessary for an area that no longer had heavy fighting. Her brain put two and two together and got a massacre.

Then a transmition from Delta came through. "Emergency! Emergency! Kaled troops are killing civilians!"

"All Daleks cease advance!" Alpha commanded. "Secure perimeter and disarm all Kaled troops immediately! Neutralize all resistance! There will be no genocide! No genocide!"

"We obey!" the Daleks chorused. Alpha and two other Daleks held the front against a possible Thal counter attack while the remaining Daleks turned around and confronted their Kaled allies.

Delta exited the building, his audio sensors detecting sounds of gunfire coming from an adjacent structure. Fortunately, the Thal buildings were designed to be accessable by mobility impaired citizens, an all too common product of the Neutronic Wars as bullets, shrapnel, chemicals, biological, and radioactive agents took their toll on Skarosian bodies and genes. Delta glided in.

Gunfire sounded from the other end of the hall. Growing pools of blood stained the floor. "All Kaleds will put away their weapons immediately," Delta shrieked harshly. "Failure to comply will result in extermination!"

There were three Kaled gunmen. They hesitated. "Obey! Obey" screached Delta. Then one slung his gun. So did the others. "You will exit the building. You will not attempt to kill any more Thals. Disobey and you will be neutralized."

The Kaled slowly exited the building and Delta glided after them, covering them with his gun stick. Other Daleks were hearding Kaleds at gun points. There was the occassional burst of gunfire recorded by their audio sensors, inevitably followed by energy blasts and then silence.

The Kaleds were moved to the dome wall, near the breach. They were made to surrender their weapons into a growing pile while six Daleks kept constant watch. It was nearly half an hour before the Daleks were satisfied that everyone was accounted for.

"Two Daleks are to go through the Thal buildings. They are to give orders of evacuation to remove them from the vicinity of the Kaleds. Suitable subjects will be given messages for the Thal leaders indicating our desire to negotiate. Delta, you will be in charge of this effort."

"I obey," Delta replied. "Kappa you will proceed on the north side, I will take the south."

"I obey."

"Attention!" Alpha shouted. "Attention! Task Force Beta has been successful. The Mentor and the children have been secured! Repeat, the Mentor and the children are safe. The Daleks are victorious. All units continue with your assignments. We must not fail."

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Dalek Tau glided through the bunker. Beta had moved to assist the Mentor and Mu was guarding the tank room, which left her on roving patrol. A signal came through from Beta. "I have secured the Mentor's safety. Several Kaled scientists have agreed to assist us and Security Chief Nyder has been arrested. Communications indicates that the attack force has breached the Thal dome. Everything is proceeding according to plan. Dalek Tau, peform a check on the entrance ways to the bunker. Ambush and remote detonated explosives are the highest probability methods of attack on our forces."

"Understood," Tau replied. "Moving to examine the surface entrance of the bunker." The Dalek slid forward and around a corner. Three Kaleds were in view on the other end of the hall. They were working with wires and bundles. One did not need to be a Dalek to recognize what was happening.

"Alert! Alert!" she signaled. "Ambush detected!" Then she addressed the Kaleds. "Halt. Obey or be neutralized!"

The Kaleds responded by diving around the corner. Tau cruised forward, turning her eye stalk and gun stick to get a fix on the Kaleds as soon as she turned the corner. A cylindrical package bounced rolled up to her. A bomb. She threw the controls of her casing into reverse.

The blast roared through the bunker and flipped her casing over while cratering the floor. The travel machine was torn open, exposing its ravaged innards. Tau waved her tentacles feebly. Her life support wasn't working and there was pain. Pain all over. Fluid was leaking out of her body from holes torn by pieces of metal. Everything was fuzzy, but her brain still worked well enough to remember anatomy diagrams. The wounds she had sustained were lethal. She didn't have much time. A Kaled was coming. She tried to speak. "I. . . hurt," but without the vocalizer only gibberish burbled out.

The Kaled raised his boot. It filled her dimming vision. It rushed towards her in a moment of intolerable pain and pressure and then there was nothing.

Alpha addressed of Thals rounded up by her Daleks. They were clearly terrified, the children clinging to adults in displays of fear and yearning that were forever beyond a Dalek. This group comprised a dozen Thals, a race only distinguishable from the Kaleds by having lighter coloured hair and wearing green coveralls instead of black. Madness, thought Alpha.

"You are free to go to the Thal controlled parts of the city," Alpha said. "You will carry the message to your leaders that the Daleks wish to negotiate the terms of the Thal surrender. Is this understood?"

One of the Thal's shook his head in the affirmitive. Even their body langauge was identical. What had started this insane war, Alpha wondered. Why had both sides been so willing to utterly destroy themselves in order to harm a group of people they were almost identical to? Madness.

"You may leave," Alpha ordered. The Thal's hurried away, as fast as they could manage carrying their children. Now came the waiting.

The Kaleds weren't happy to have been disarmed or to have been stopped in their slaughter, but they had seen how futile it was to fight the Daleks and they still possessed a measure of self preservation. They were a dangerous element, only controlled as long as they were under Dalek gunsticks. So much to do and so few Daleks to do it with. Somehow, they would have to make it work.

It didn't take too long for a Thal to emerge from their political headquarters, a squat rectangular building of steel and glass, with her hands raised. She was a petit female with close cropped blonde hair and wore Thal military issue coveralls. "You may advance," Alpha ordered.

She did so, coming closer to Alpha. "You are the Thal representative?"

"I'm carrying a message from our leaders," she said. "Whom am I addressing?"

"I am Alpha, the Dalek Supreme. Who are you?"

She hesitated for a moment. "I am Bettan. You are . . . . . creations of the Kaleds?"

"We are the creations of the Mentor," Alpha replied. "We are descended from Kaleds, adapted to survive the poisoning of Skaro and the genetic damage inflicted by the Neutronic Wars. We are the future."

She shuddered and then regain her composure. "We are prepaired to give favorable terms in exchange for your withdrawl from the city."

"That will not occur. The Thals must surrender to the Daleks. The Neutronic Wars must end. There must be peace."

"We can still resist you," she said. "You can be damaged. You can be killed."

"The probability of signifigant Dalek casualties is low. The probability of total extermination of the Thal race approaches one hundred percent."

"We can block access points, disable lifts, destroy ramps. You can't even climb stairs."

"Daleks do not need to climb stairs," Alpha replied. "We can blow up the buildings. We can remove the distronic explosives from your rocket and use them to destroy your green houses and all resistance strong points. Should it become necessary we can rearm the Kaleds. Resistance will result in your extermination. Surrender."

"What do you offer?" she asked.

"The Daleks will control the city. No Kaleds will be allowed to enter without first recieving permission from the Daleks. You will be allowed to continue living your lives as you see fit, with a portion of your production being given to the Daleks. The Daleks will provide you with protection and Dalek science will place a high priority on Skarosian health and living standards as well as repairing the planet. The advances of Dalek science will help the Thals. Your race will survive. It will prosper."

"Under Dalek control."

"It is necessary. Only Dalek rule will prevent the annhilation of the Thal and Kaled races."

"I'll tell my leaders," she said.

"You may leave." Bettan turned and ran backed to the Thal headquarters. Now Alpha had to wait and see if the Thals would pursue the logical course of action. Alpha moved back to address the other Daleks. "Daleks Epsilon, Gamma, and Delta will escort Dalek Lambda back to the bunker for repairs," ordered Alpha. All the Daleks she had named had taken signifigant damage in the battle against the Thals. "You will also appraise the Mentor of the situation so she may guide us."

"We obey," the Daleks chorused. Alpha turned her brain back to the matter of the getting the Thals to surrender without exterminating them. At least the Mentor and the next generation of Daleks were safe.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

Beta whirled in place as he recieved the message from Tau. "Alert! Alert!" he cried out, his dome lights flashing. "Dalek Tau has encountered hostiles. Dalek Tau is not responding to communications!"

"Tau maybe damaged," Davina said. "You must assist her!"

"I must not abandon Mentor!" Beta cried.

"You are not," Davina said. "My people are now the ones with guns. They will defend me. You must protect me by investigating this threat."

"I obey," replied Beta, glad to have the dilemma solved for him.

"I'll come with you," said Gharman. The stocky Kaled scientist had a submachine gun that had taken from Nyder's men. "You might need some help."

"Remain behind me," said Beta. "Bullets will not harm me."

"I'll do that," the Kaled scientist replied as the headed down the corridor. "Where was this trouble?"

"Tau was near the bunker entrance when she last reported," said Beta. "We should be nearing her location." The Dalek passed a doorway and slid around the corner to the next corridor as Gharman remained a half dozen yards behind. There Beta saw a hole in the floor, chunks of rubble scattered about, and the gutted remnants of Tau's casing.

Beta slowly advanced. There was noise from a room just behind them. Beta began to turn, but was too slow. A Kaled soldier was there with a cylindrical charge in his hands. Gharman fired. Bullets stitched across the Kaled's chest, sending blood into the air. The Kaled spasmed and clumsily threw the charge towards Beta as he fell. Gharman dived back the way he had came as Beta retreated from the device. It detonated, sending a concussive wave up the corridor and knocking Beta into the remains of Tau's casing and tipping him over.

The confrence room stank of sweat and fear. It wasn't much more than a room and chairs with a wide window that looked out towards the back of the Thal dome. All the nice ones looked to the front with the view of the green houses, but no one would use those now. Too great a risk of being picked off by a sniper. There was no telling the kind of range their scope-eyestalks gave the Dalek weapons.

A half dozen men with short grey and white hair were clustered around the table. They wore dark green Thal military uniforms with no insignia. These men were the leaders of the Thal military and the Thal civilization. They were now facing the total defeat of their race.

None of them had broken down, at least externally, as their world collapsed around them. "Is that all?" said a balding, white haired man.

"Yes Grand Marshal," said Bettan. "Those are the Daleks' terms." She resisted the urge to figit. Normally there would be guards nearby, but all of them had been reassigned to defend the perimeter. Reassigned to die if the Daleks pushed forward again.

"Total capitulation," he said with disgust.

A taller, lean man with white hair spoke. "We retain options. Militarily, our position is untenable here, but if we retreat to the wastes-"

"We can do what?" said a short, stocky gray haired man. "Drink poisoned water? Eat tainted food? Fight the mutos for what scrapts exist? Pray that the chemicals and radiation poisoning doesn't too badly mutate our children? Either way we are surrendering our future to these Daleks. They will be the ones with green houses, filtered air, factories, and water purifiers."

The lean man sneered at him. "Do you have a better suggestion Desrel?"

Desrel shrugged. "We cannot delude ourselves by embracing romantic fantasies. Our hope for winning the war ended when those Daleks cut us off from the Old Armoury and the missle silo. Our responsibility is now solely the well being of the Thal people. We need to discuss realistic options. We need to know whether or not these Daleks are trustworthy?"

The lean man. "Trust Kaleds? Trust Kaled mutos? Don't be insane."

Desrel ignored the taunt. "Corporal Bettan, what are your observations suggest?"

"The Daleks disarmed Kaled soldiers and killed a number of them, apparently for killing our civilians. They seem . . . . direct sir. Blunt. They know they have the upper hand."

The room was quiet for a moment. All eyes turned towards the grand marshal. He was staring at the table. Then he lifted his gaze. Fire gleamed in his eyes. "If it is the destiny of the Thal race to perish from the face of Skaro, let it not be on their knees before a Kaled mutant but on its feet with a weapon in their hands shouting defiance at the enemy. We will commence with an all out attack."

Silence greated his command. "Now!" he screamed. "I am the leader of the Thal race and I have given you an order!" Desrel hung his head. The other Thal leaders saluted and began filing out.

A shot rang out and the Grand Marshal fell face forward into a pool of his own blood and brains. General Desrel put his pistol on the table and addressed his stunned colleagues. "I took an oath to protect the Thal people from all of its enemies. It is a pity that one of those enemies turned out to be its Grand Marshal. Shall we discuss how we shall answer these 'Daleks'?"

------------------------------------------------------------

Bettan walked down the deserted street towards the Dalek lines. Sigma signaled Alpha that the Thal representative was returning. Alpha was supervising the Kaled prisoners, a task that was somewhat stressful. The only instrument of control the Daleks had was the application of lethal force. The Kaleds were well behaved at the moment, but the option to shoot anything suspicious and render the subject unconcious for a long time would would have been very useful.

Alpha signaled the other Daleks over her radio. "Attention. Modification of Dalek weaponry to include a non-lethal mode is desirable."

"Alpha, the Thal Bettan is approaching," said Sigma.

"I am on my way," Alpha replied. "Return to assist in the supervision of Kaled prisoners." The Dalek Supreme returned to the perimeter, passing Sigma and seeing Bettan standing in the middle of the empty street."Will you surrender?" Alpha asked.

"Our leaders have conditions."

"Conditions?"

"We want transparency. We want Thal observers to be able to test food and supplies, we want a representative to be able to observe your governmental decisions and speak directly on behalf of the Thal people. We want to be able to verify any project that concerns us is actually what it purports to be. We want guarrantees of education, health care, and civil rights for all Thals."

"These terms are acceptable," said Alpha. "You will begin to turn in your weapons and allow Daleks access to all parts of your city.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

Theros snarled orders at the two remaining members of his demo team. "Guard the corridor. I'll deal with the damned Dalek." His men rushed out with pistols drawn as Theros picked up a blasting charge and went in the other direction, towards the downed Dalek.

Beta's casing was scarred in a few places, but mostly undamaged. The Dalek was trying to right himself with his gripper claw, but failing. The sensor turret turned to watch the approaching Kaled. Shots rang out behind him. Theros smiled and held up the charge. "Time for you to die, muto trash."

"Put the charge down," said Gharman from behind him. Blood leaked from his side, but the Kaled scientiest still stood and held the submachine gun. "Its over."

Theros turned. He hadn't thought it possible that a soft beaker pusher would be able to get the better of both of his men, but evidently Gharman had. He was still a civy though.

"You're not carrying any extra ammunition," said Theros as he lowered the charge. "How much do you have left in the magazine?"

"Enough," said Gharman leavily. "Let me guess, charges in adjacent rooms aimed at load bearing structures. Drop the whole entrance on the Daleks and bury them alive?"

"Something like that," Theros replied. "It really doesn't matter how many survive if they are all trapped and starving."

"It's too late for that," said Gharman. "They are far more capable than you think."

"Yes, knock them down and they lie on their backs as helpless as a flipped sand crab. Very capable." He dropped the charge. Gharman's eyes followed the harmless explosive as Theros drew his pistol.

Gharman's gun still had four bullets left and all of them struck Theros in the chest. He dropped his pistol and fell to the ground, his life leaking out of him. At least it wasn't the damned cancer, he thought and then darkness claimed him.

Helping hands gripped Beta's casing, pulling the Dalek upright while other men rigged a stretcher to carry Gharman to surgery. "Are you alright?" Ronson asked.

"I am unharmed," Beta replied. "All my systems are functional. How is Gharman?"

"He has a very good chance of making it."

"Good. Security status?"

"We're guarding the entrance to ward off other saboteurs and some Daleks are on the way from the Thal city. They've surrendered."

"I shall guard the entrance," said Beta, "and await instructions from the Dalek Supreme or the Mentor."

"The Dalek Supreme?"

"You know her as Dalek Alpha." With that Beta slid past the crater in the floor to the front of the bunker. The Dalek swept his periscope over Skaro's blasted landscape and studied the data from his sensor globes. No hostiles in view.

Beta wasn't waiting for too long when Gamma's column of damaged Daleks appeared. Gamma signaled to Beta as they approached. "Transmitions from the Thal dome indicate the Thals have surrendered. The Daleks are victorious."

"The Kaled science elite has allied with the Daleks," replied Beta. "They have assisted us in neutralizing Kaled security forces who attempted to exterminate us. We have been successful. Casualties?"

"None. We have been ordered to return in order to repair our casings and assist the Mentor. Casualties?"

"Dalek Tau was killed by Kaled soldiers?"

"Status of Kaled soldiers who killed her?" Epsilon asked angrily. He and Tau worked together to write computer programs.

"They have all been exterminated," Beta replied.

"I am . . . . . pleased," replied Epsilon.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------

After the damaged Daleks had begun replacing parts, Lambda came forward to replace Beta standing guard beside a rifle armed Kaled. Beta returned to the central meeting room where Davina and a half a dozen other Kaleds were still clustered near the radio set.

"Mentor," Beta asked. "What do we do now?"

"We end this war," said Davina. "Most of the Kaled Army and Security Division have been taken prisoner or killed. They have no real force with which to oppose the Daleks and no scientists to turn to for equiping them with new weapons. We possess the chemical formula that will cripple the Kaled Dome and materials acquired from the Thals will allow us to swiftly construct a casing for every one of our Daleks. They can't win and they know it. They'll come to their senses soon enough or we will breach the dome and remove the government by force."

"And then?" Beta asked.

"And then we shall turn away from war and towards saving the Thal and Kaled races. If we cannot help them survive what Skaro has become, we shall find a new home for them among the stars. We shall build a better future, a future of peace, order, and prosperty and you, my Daleks, will be its prime architects and instigators. You shall overcome whatever challenges you face and bring harmony to this universe."

"You will guide us in this Mentor?"

"I will help you as long as this crippled body draw breath. Every right thinking being shall aid you. Eventually, the hatred between Kaled and Thal shall dim and they shall come together to be part of this great endeavour. The Daleks will change the universe."

More excellent work, Imperial Overlord, these alternative Daleks remind me a lot of the Tau from WH40K; like the Tau these Daleks are very firm but fair military expansionists that intend to unite the entire universe and make all races live together in harmony, under an iron fist.

In true Doctor Who fashion, after having solved the crisis and established what shall happen next, I will leave to let the other people mess with the minor details.

I do, however, have ideas for another story featuring these Daleks.
