need some computer help
Ok came home from work and my wife was complaining of the computer.
Log on get several things are running and can't turn them off. Try to open task manager and it says it was disable by the administrator which I didn't. Can't run spydoctor, hyjack gives me a fault violation error. Load system in safe mode. Ran spydoctor, hyjack and norton antivirus.
I managed to remove quite a few but serveral remaind that couln't be removed and was quaranteed. Logged back on normally still get the same problems. I can not get to the services to allow task manager to run. The service page is missing the extended portion where its located.
So any ideas.

Reinstall windows. That is about all you can do in this case.

In the meantime, see if you can get ahold of a copy of Knoppix. You should be able to use it to surf the web and back up anything on your hdd you want to save.dragon wrote:Hum I was afraid of especially since I no longer a copy of windows.Faram wrote:Reinstall windows. For the task manager, Start->Run, type gpedit.msc, click OK. In the sidebar, go to Administrative Templates->System->Ctrl+Alt+Del Options, double-click Remove Task Manager, set it to Disabled and click OK. That should fix it, it did on my sister's computer last night when I had to fix it after it was infected by BraveSentry.

Long ago in a distant land, I, Aku, the shape-shifting Master of Darkness, unleashed an unspeakable evil,
but a foolish samurai warrior wielding a magic sword stepped forth to oppose me. Before the final blow
was struck, I tore open a portal in time and flung him into the future, where my evil is law! Now, the fool
seeks to return to the past, and undo the future that is Aku...

He'd better hope that GPO hasn't been locked out, either.Executor32 wrote:For the task manager, Start->Run, type gpedit.msc, click OK. If the machine has a Windows Certificate of Authenticity somewhere (it's usually on the side panel or the rear), beg, borrow, or download a copy of XP Home OEM (I'm assuming this is an XP Home setup), as the CD Key on the CoA should let you reinstall it from another OEM disc with no problems.
"You say that it is your custom to burn widows. Very well. We also have a custom: when men burn a woman alive, we tie a rope around their necks and we hang them. Build your funeral pyre; beside it, my carpenters will build a gallows. You may follow your custom. And then we will follow ours."- General Sir Charles Napier

Nope didn't work. It gave me an error saying gpedit.mmc cannot be found. What weird I created a new user account and are able to use my task manager, my adware remover and antivirus. But even after I cleared everything I could find and logged back on to my other user account same problem appears.
While I can use the new admin account its still annoying that I cannot use my old account.

gpedit.msc is what you need.dragon wrote:Nope didn't work. It gave me an error saying gpedit.mmc cannot be found.
Your computer might still be compromised. I strongly suggest wiping your machine and starting fresh. While I can use the new admin account its still annoying that I cannot use my old account.
