HAVEN CLASS SPIRE (v1)
Although most Eldar live upon their vast floating craftworlds, those that have followed the path of the Outcast are scattered to the far extremes of the galaxy. Many of these outcasts become Eldar corsairs, joining the Pirate Princes of the Corsair fleets.
These raiding fleets operate from many secret bases, of which the Haven class Spire is just one identified type. With tall slender towers and graceful sails to capture solar energy, the Spire is a distinctive space station. They are usually well hidden away, deep in asteroid fields or nebula, and as well as their own formidable weaponry they have the protection of their Corsair fleet. Should the Spires location be discovered, then the Imperium’s fleet will invariably attack to destroy the threat.
The Haven class spire is subject to all the Eldar special rules for holofields, critical hits and weaponry etc.

You can build planetary defences in the campaign rules(pg 15) [in the ones Necron is proposing, in the BFG campaign rules they are free with the planet] and they tend to be, like escorts, cheap.Hotfoot wrote:Thing is, as far as I know, you get reinforcements of ships, not defenses. I suppose it's possible to build them, but I haven't seen where the rules state it explicitly.
Consider, however, that worlds are a precious commodity. Losing one outright would be devestating, and space stations are rather powerful compared to most ships.

It's certainly an option for Eldar pirate bases. Though I'm open to any other suggestions.

Instead of Victory points for them, maybe Hulks should give a boost to your starship production?

If you capture a hulk, then you are welcome to count it as one of your own ships, and repair it according to the normal rules. Ships don't often get hulked and captured, after all. That said, eldar (or other, more advanced, alien *Looks furtive*) ships can't be refitted in this way by non-eldar players, as their technology works on alien principles and is far beyond human comprehension, but their capture will earn substantial rewards from the Inquisition, or the Dark Gods (Sacrifice of soul-stones on board...) or Mork...2000AD wrote:Instead of Victory points for them, maybe Hulks should give a boost to your starship production?

Oh. And if you can find them, I heartily reccommend the Torpedo Bomber rules .

Note the extra cost on these beauties. Has anything been decided about using the fighter turret supression rules?

That's why you get to hide it in a system of your choice, and force them to jump through hoops to find it.InnocentBystander wrote:That spire is one easy target. No shields, no movement, 30cm gun range. Leave it un-guarded and a single chaos or Imperium cruiser could destroy at 45cm, I suspect

I suspect most of our players would be better off ignoring those for now.Imperial Overlord wrote:Has anything been decided about using the fighter turret supression rules?

I've been mulling over the problem of how to play the game, and I believe I've come up with a decent 'solution'.
First, I think a Photoshop clone is indeed the best medium for playing. Every other solution I've seen uses hexes, which are nice and all, but these tabletop games are too fluid for a hex system.
The idea of emailing a picture back and forth, adding new layers and such is a great, but problematic. It is slow, and doesn't solve the 'public dice' problem (I'll be honest, I don't trust you, and you shouldn't trust me.), and makes it difficult for players to decide if they want to Brace for impact (not to mention a moderating nigthmare).
The time problem becomes worse as you add more players to a fight, and single battles will start taking multiple sessions, and people will get tired or bored with waiting 20 minutes for BFG.png to show up in their mailbox, just so they can take their second turn. Battles just won't end, it will be like all of our failed STGODs.
The solution I've come up with is simple, Desktop Sharing! All gaming happens on the one machine, players taking control during their turn, moving layers around and stuff in GIMP on the hosting computer. Dice rolling happens with that little D&D dice app on the host computer for all to see and the moderator can watch at his leisure as the game takes place in real time.
I honestly can't think of a better way to do it, games shouldn't take unreasonable amounts of time, only one piece of software is needed for everything, and it requires basically no setup time. So, what do you folks think?

Dug up so info on the Eldar Pulsar Lances on Lock On. You can reroll each missed roll once, which means each and every missed roll for a pulsar lance qualifies for the reroll.
So you could have a sequence of rolls that looks like this:
2 rerolled to 4 =hit then going to: 3 rerolled to 5= 2nd hit, then going to: 1 rerolled to 6 =3hits.
Of course, that means no turning in either movement phase, which is begging to be gun batteried to death.
Linky

Extremely cool map of the galaxy. Just thought I'd share.
Sounds fine to me. Didn't someone post a grid image earlier we can use?InnocentBystander wrote:Of course if anyone has any better ideas, please... present them.

Neat, but we don't specifically need squares. If I recall correctly, the BFG board is just a blank table with whatever hazards and space ships there need to be (of course a nice stellar backdrop would be keen )
Someone should make a gimp file that has the standard board size (46x72cm or something wierd like that..?), and make some objects for blast markers and fighters and the like. Plus a ruler if it doesn't already have something similar.

Using a grid lets us use the Pythagorean Theorem for distances.InnocentBystander wrote:Neat, but we don't specifically need squares. If I recall correctly, the BFG board is just a blank table with whatever hazards and space ships there need to be (of course a nice stellar backdrop would be keen )

EDIT: Provided that the markers are placed on intersections rather than within squares.
