Ok, so my roommate and I just moved into a place where our bedrooms are on opposite sides of the bedroom from one another, which necessitated that we go wireless for our network. Simple enough, so I bought a PCI wireless nic.
Only problem is, it won't connect. He has a WRT54GS linksys router, and he gave me the TKIP passkey as well as the ssid. When I would enter it into the windows networking, it would appear and show a good signal. Only thing is, after I connect to it, it won't assign me an IP address and I get no packets back.
This is the case time and time again, and it's driving me fucking bonkers. I even disabled ALL security and had it broadcast the ssid, and it STILL doesn't fucking work. There was one point where it worked for about 10 seconds, but then it went away and hasn't worked since.
Any ideas? I am about to lose it.

DHCP enabled on the router?
“There are two kinds of people in the world: the kind who think it’s perfectly reasonable to strip-search a 13-year-old girl suspected of bringing ibuprofen to school, and the kind who think those people should be kept as far away from children as possible … Sometimes it’s hard to tell the difference between drug warriors and child molesters.” - Jacob Sullum
Wireless can get blocked by weird shit. Have you tried moving the router directly next to your PC and testing the connection? You don't even need Internet access, just have the router give you an IP and ping it from there (usually 192.168.1.1). You may need a firmware update.
If that doesn't work, I would assume there is something wrong with your wireless card. Try another PCI slot and update the driver to the latest on Linksys's site.
Hell, I had to update my firmware yesterday just so I could play Hidden Source without my Internet dieing (and I've never had an issue with any other HL2 mod uncluding Dystopia).
