E-web against star trek ship...

Post by fusion »

It may sound stupid but I want to know if a storm trooper with an E-web and the power crate would be enough to knock down the shields of a star trek ship and which one(s).

It does sound stupid. Incredibly so. Especially since while Trek shields my pale in comparison to Wars ones, they are STILL likely MT range.
It may-may- be feasible to breach a shuttle's shields with an E-Web if it sits still long enough. Maybe.
The E-Web is the Wars' universe's equivalent to a GPMG. NOT an antiship weapon.

The Stormtrooper wins.... if the guy in command of the Federation ship is Riker, who will sit there taking shots while trying to devise a technobabble solution.
Finding none, his shields are knocked out after a a few years. :P

I wouldn't write off the E-web so quickly, the Snowtroopers on Hoth must have fully expected to be able to disable the Falcon with it so it must be able to penetrate a small crafts shields, but probably only with concentrated fire for some time.
Against Star Trek ships I'd hazard a guess and say it could take out shuttles assuming they didnt return fire too quickly as the Falcon was able to.

I'd say they might have some effect against SW civilian freighters (like the Falcon) or smaller ST ships like shuttles, but I dout they'll have any effect on the larger ships of either side.

I thought they were trying to sneak a few shots in before Han could power up the ship. It took him a few moments and a false start to get the engines going.

Thats possible, but they wouldn't have known about his technical problems so it would depend how quickly it takes a converted freighter to raise shields.

In regards to shot strength how would an E-Web compare to the guns on a ATST? I know its about as cannon as my foot but the fanfilm IMPS Relentless shows an ATST type thing (its got a chain gun style blaster) that engages two freighters with a squad of stormtroopers and can only destroy the one which hasn't raised its shields, the other one getting clean away.
Also the X-wing books tell us that even a TIE fighters armour is good enough to stop most hand weapons.

Considering E-Webs are used in buildings, I'd say it's unlikely they'd fare well against a UFP Captial ships.

Shuttles, probably

From the EGWT:
enough firepower to punch through a snowspeeder's armor plating
Tough enough to take out lightly armoured vehicles and horribly fuck up infantry, but it doesn't say anything about being able to take out shielding.

PS. According to the EGWT, with the improved cooling and power generation systems in recent models, the E-Web can fire on full-auto for one full hour. That's unreal.

Against an unsheild Falcon they couls possible fire it into the engine and possibly damage it enough that he can't get it started.

It seem that it is common for books to wank small things like fighter crafts and speeders yet under estimate the large things like the Death Star and Imperial Star Destroyer.

Depends on what ship it's firing at i would imagine. Others in this thread seem to under estimate the Falcon. It wasn't a civilian freighter, it was a pimped out smuggler ship with military grade shielding, weapons and armour. In ESB the Falcon takes multiple hits from LTL's and asteroids. The stormies on Hoth seemed to expect to disable the Falcon with their E-Web. Han Solo certainly seemed worried about it.

Also factor on that a Federation ships are much more fragile than those in the GFFA. A few hits always seem to know out the weapons array or the captains WC or some other vital system.

The big question in that scene is wether his shields were already up or not. If they were, the E-web is basically a portable capship weapon :?

Is there perhaps anything in the script or novelisation ?

In TESB, the Falcon takes shots from stormtrooper blasters prior to being powered up. We see the blaster bolts striking the hull and what appears to be sparks flying off, perhaps with molten peices of the hull. Once all the heroes are aboard and the ship is taking off, the blaster bolts clearly strike what appears to be a shield. My guess is that it was common knowledge that the best time to disable a docked ship was prior to it being powered on, thus the stormtroopers preparing their squad-level weapon to disable the Falcon before it could power up and take off.

An hour? Perhaps they mean firing it at a Star Wars repeating blaster's equivalent of what would be (for our machine guns) referred to as sustained or combat effective rate of fire, rather than nonstop at maximum cyclic rate. Y'know, with pauses for cooling between bursts of fire.

Would this be the equivalent of attacking the USS Constitution (Old Ironsides for you enlightened non-Yanks :P) with a Ma Deuce (M2HB for the Civvies)?

Nope, they said exactly what Wong means. Full auto for an hour. Fucking crazy. I'd still imagine it's got a rather low rate of fire around 500-700rpm. Instead of it belching out a 'BRAAAAAAAAAAP!" like an MG42 (or MG-3) it would be a steady "Boom! Boom! Boom! Boom! Boom! Boom! Boom! Boom! Boom!..." jackhammering, rather like Ma Deuce...
