Logic would dictate that the armoured vehicle would quickly destroy the fictional beast, and yet given their total dominace in the movies, we must assume that the beast won out in the end. :(

I recall that there is a book in which an US Marines in a fantasy world fight a dragon using an APC. It was quite an interesting battle. Makes me wish I'd read the book, or at least knew the title.

If it where any other type of dragon(D&D for example) I would say that the dragon would win, but the magically barren reign of fire dragons....no

Except we saw a freaking HARPOON bring down a Dragon. The LAV-AD would slaughter Dragons.

The LAV brings down 8-10 dragons (or if we use the game as our basis 1 or 2) at best.. unfortunately it dies when a dragon sneaks up behind it on the ground and crispy-fries it while it's busy shooting at the others.

That thing would slaughter them. Problem is they outbreed us. Even if we killed 8 for everyone of us, they had 9. They weren't that tough, it was far more about the numbers.

The "scorched" Earth future part was supposed to be 2020ish in the film. In the teasers it was more like 2060ish. I think they decided to back off putting it that much further into the future.

What type of idiot only send one of them?!?

Have a group of ~4 and with some intelligent tactics the dragons would only get near the group when they run out of ammo!

Assuming a group of 4, have 1 LAV facing each direction (ie North,South,East,West). Then have at least 2 of them always covering the rear.

And have some lookouts to prevent the dragons sneaking up(ie set up some motion sensors around the units)!

The only way the movie work is if all of humanity is terminally stupid ...

I think through that was the point, they where everwhere in huge numbers. Once they had started to breed their was no known way to stop them. You killed one and two replaced it, killed three and 9 appeared striking down the threats swarming at them. How did the numbers get so big, I imagine we allowed them too, think about it the first Dragon appears, it's an endangered species no one attacks it because of this Governments protect it, animal rights groups etc, then later on the waves start appearing. The first say 100 Dragons don't bother humanity much, they can feed on crops not people. Then as the numbers grow they need more food, thats when the truth is realised, but it's too late we go down HARD, oh sure we take a lot down (And where in fact told this is the case they where fought against) but... it's not enough. Hell killing a Dragon isn't enough anyway, imagine all that weight falling to earth... a mass slaughter may hurt the defender's even more!

It still seems like idiocy. A simple wheeled 20mm Vulcan of the kind they have in mothballs in the US, or a Soviet ZU-23-2 23mm, hell even a Soviet ZPU 14.5mm are available in the tens of thousands individually, losing to a bunch of animals whose big trick is breathing fire is pretty pathetic.

What happened to the air forces?

the air force was probably overwhelmed whith sheer numbers i mean did you see the numbers of dragons that flew out of london twards the end of the movie??????? even if the fire breath didn't get them or couldn't destroyey aircraft they probably crashed into the dragons

And how high can these dragons fly? I'm sorry but there's no way in hell a dragon is going to beat an F-15 in a straight up fight.

Depends on the dragon. Some of them have no physical body. Nonmagical
attacks are simply unable to harm them. Other are so big that the weapons
of the F15 could only hope to tickle it to death. The later one is the typical
omnipotent beeing the enterprise loves to encounter.
