I personally am of the opinion that a coloured blade is just like any other coloured blade- There may be minute differences due to impurities in the crystal causing the power to be enhanced or diminished by the tiniest amount.

However, I also believe that other crystals may be implemented in a lightsabre to increase the efficiency of said lightsabre. An additional focusing lens may refine the beam and result in more power being concentrated into the sabre, and so on...

That may be an efficiency issue.

I, Jedi has Coran using a fake crystal in his lightsabre. Not artificial, not synthetic, but one made of zirconium. (Stackpole substituted "Kubaz" to try and be witty)

That would indicate that the crystal has not influence on the blade at all.

How is Bob Brown's old theory holding up where crystals are, like in modern electronics, used for frequency regulation?

Speaking of mr. Brown; I much prefered his 'virtual partical' theory better than any of this 'crystal' crap.
They say, "the tree of liberty must be watered with the blood of tyrants and patriots." I suppose it never occurred to them that they are the tyrants, not the patriots. Those weapons are not being used to fight some kind of tyranny; they are bringing them to an event where people are getting together to talk. -Mike Wong

But as far as board culture in general, I do think that young male overaggression is a contributing factor to the general atmosphere of hostility. It's not SOS and the Mess throwing hand grenades all over the forum- Red

A friend of mine was telling me about some orange lightsabers that have the ability to, "cut through other lightsabers." Claimed it was EU canon. Also said the crystals were destroyed by the Jedi because they were 'dangerous'. Any basis at all? I've done a little wiki/wookiee-ing but I couldn't find anything.
Please forgive any idiotic comments, stupid observations, or dumb questions in above post, for I am but a college student with little real world experience.

I think Supershadow's nonsense had something like that in it. Which is decidedly not canon.

Yeah, personally I find the 'spinning hypermatter disk bombarded with electrons to force it into an elongated shape' theory to be the most interesting of the bunch, plus it can be extended to turbolaser technology and the like.

Certainly better than the WEG 'standing wave' or almost-okay frozen blaster theories. Anyway, that's off topic.

As far as I'm concerned, and I've never read anything competant to contradict this, crystals are definitely a lightsaber component. They don't have any concrete effect on the color of the blade. The blade color may indicate certain things, and different colors may perform slightly differently; but only to the personal preference level, nothing overwhelming or hugely noticable in either way.

at least in KOTOR series the only effect that regular saber crystals had was the color of the blade (though you needed one for the saber to work), though some special crystals had effects on the performance of the blade itself (this could be game mechanics though).
