Remember when they were preparing for battle and they activated a force field around the warp core? Did this make a difference in the movie?

The force-field appeared to be designed to protect the core from minor damage caused by nearby explosions or debris. It proves how poorly protected the warp cores were in previous models of TNG ships.

I think it was design to protect the core from intruders, but after seeing what the Reman disruptors did to the door on the Sci, then a inch and a half of metal that covered the core would be just as effective, and wouldn't go down with the power.
