(United) Federation (of Planets) vs. Zeon
We've pit Starfleet against a lot of other opponents, but how about a society with a very different sort of technology than standard sci fi? (plus I think Zaku Chan will appreciate)
A fleet of Zeon warships with a full complement of mobile suits is deployed against a comparable sized UFP fleet. (FTL travel not really a factor since both fleets are engaging in Earth Orbit)
There are also 9 Zaku II's on the ground near San Francisco also. Does Starfleet have enough power to win that battle?

Phasers do wonders to unshielded targets, a hand phaser can acheive total body disintergration. Zeon doesn't have shields.
The Zeon leaders are beamed directly into the Brig, while the Mobile Suits are vaporized with Phaser fire. The Delta Flyer can take all of the UC Gundams at once without breaking a sweat.

Zeon wins. Why? Even poorly designed, weak, and tactically idiotic ground forces are better than no ground forces at all. The best the Federation can supply is below average riflemen who would probably lose to 1850's era infantry.

Federation beats the living crap out of Zeon in space .Feds have rapid fire 64 megaton photon torpedoes and they can be set for proximity bursts I think

I'm going to go against the flow here and saw that the Gundam actually do win the ground battle. The stun from orbit has never to my knowledge been done. The interference from the minkowsky particles, or heck just the normal radiation from the fusion reactors should stop teleportation attempts.
And the ground battle is limited to hand phasers on the part of the Feds, at least until the space battle is finished and they can bring the starship phasers to bear. The hand phasers do notoriously poorly against armor, so the gundam's should have a decent chance of surviving for a while. If they enter the heavily built-up sections of the city, then it will make it extremely difficult for the starships to be able to target them, which will likely allow them to complete their object, most likely destroying SF HQ.

That would be a problem against mechas and tanks. Stun won't work then, it will only take out all of the ground crew and support staff.
Well, can't help it. Gotta turn the up setting to "vaporise" then. That, or send a single shuttle down to clean house. Just to make it more of a beat down, send two.

Worst comes to worst, the Feddies beam the Gundams out into space, or vape them from the sky.

Mind you, you're temporaily in a space battle. Considering how easily shuttles tend to go down, I wouldn't bet on them being useful.Yogi wrote:That would be a problem against mechas and tanks. Stun won't work then, it will only take out all of the ground crew and support staff.

They could just send a single runabout to blast them with its phasers and micro torpedes.Pablo Sanchez wrote:Zeon wins. Why? Look, the order of magnitude is pretty much out of whack here.
Phaser on starship: 1-10 TW
Mega particle gun on the Sazabi, the most powerful mech ever: 8.8 MW
Suppose the mega particle cannons on the Zeon ships are 1,000 times more powerful. That only brings them to 8.8GW. One starship's phasers are in the TW range.
Round 1: "Full Phaser Spread!"
Round 2: "Let's go down and take care of those Zakus, shall we?"

Got the information from http://www.mahq.net/mecha/gundam/index.htm which seems, in turn, to get it from official sources. I don't know of any official calcs being done.Beowulf wrote:It's canon information that those cannons are that weak? Wow...

Yogi, you forgot the Gundam ZZ's high mega cannon: 50 MW. Or it's double beam cannons at 20 MW.
There are many more Mobile Weapons that are more powerful than the Sazabi.
Zeon still loose, though.

I believe in a sign of Zeta.

Why are we resorting to the fucking "beam them all into space" argument, while were at it, let's just lock on to torpedoes and beam them into space before they hit the ship and beam eney vessels into the Marianas trench. REalize you actually have to get a lock on said targets. I would think Minovsky particles would have some effect if not some kind of interference from the mobile suits themselves.

Even if transporters aren't used, Feds here are too powerful for Zeon's firepower to do much.Darth Fanboy wrote:Why are we resorting to the fucking "beam them all into space" argument, while were at it, let's just lock on to torpedoes and beam them into space before they hit the ship and beam eney vessels into the Marianas trench. Zeon is simply overmatched. The Feds have shielding, phasers, torps, and ships that have too many advantages for the Zekes to overcome. It's the same as pitting the Feds against the Empire: one is simply too tough and too advanced for the other to overcome.
