Getting my Dell 2005FPW replaced

Post by Captain tycho »

The top edge of my less than one year old 2005FPW is showing some sort of weird discoloration and is getting worse, so I dug around Dell's website for warranty info and didn't find anything helpful. I bought the monitor back in late September 05, and it was made in August. What I'd like to know: Is the monitor still under warranty, and if so, how hard is it to get it replaced by Dell?

You're probably going to have to call them with the service tag to find out.

Shit, nothing on the back of my Dell monitor is labeled as a service tag. I have two stickers, one (white) is a serial number and revision, the other (black) contains production date and regulation information. You'd probably have to use the serial number. You don't happen to have your Dell invoice, do you? I would think they could look it up by either.

Nope, no invoice, but I still have the serial number. Thanks for your help.

You can ask for an invoice on this page: Dell Invoice Request

Dell is very unhelpful when it comes to looking up warranty information ie none at all. If anyone orders from Dell, the invoice is possibly the most important piece of paper to keep from them.
I have almost reached the regrettable conclusion that the Negro's great stumbling block in his stride toward freedom is not the White Citizen's Counciler or the Ku Klux Klanner, but the white moderate, who is more devoted to "order" than to justice; who constantly says: "I agree with you in the goal you seek, but I cannot agree with your methods of direct action"; who paternalistically believes he can set the timetable for another man's freedom; who lives by a mythical concept of time and who constantly advises the Negro to wait for a "more convenient season."

Yeah, but they will have the record of it in the system. You can look it up online.

The shitty thing with getting warranty on the monitor is the fact that since it doesn't have a service code you can't do anything via the web. You are going to have to call tech support, and don't let them put you into the for-pay tech support of it.
