Three updates at the Domus Publica

Although the site has lain dormant since May, three new updates have been made this month. The first, of course, on 09 July, was the addition of a 'biography' of the Rationalist Party, eventually followed by the addition (24 July) of a biography of the Lady Dhol, an obscure character who once played a game against Darth Vader. Finally, today (29 July), this author posted part one of "A Picturesque Uniform," this part being on the subject of the merchant navy (or merchant marine, if you prefer). One should note that the name is a quotation from a song somewhat relevant to the overall subject, and does not mean that the article is about uniforms (that is the concern of the forthcoming article "Pass in Review").

1) I have the Secrets of Naboo book now (I got it at this years A-kon), and it has extensive writing on the Trade Federation and its ships, including noting that there was the standard Transport, capable of moving 25 million tons, as oppossed to the "battleship" and "droid control ship" which could only move 5 million, and some mention of Trade Federation shipping and fueling outposts.

3) The use of the temr "tons" may be in reference to literal mass instead of as a measure of volume like it is in the modern navy and merchant marines. These are spaceship using newtonian drives. Thus they are subject to the same limits of mass ratios and total capacity as any such craft.

4) "200-meter-long Neutron Star-class bulk cruiser," The Neutron Star class and Battle Horn class are both 600 meters long. The Quasar Fire class is 350. I don't know of any bluk cruiser 200 meters long.

5) The Bacta War also provides an indication of allowed weaponry, but interestingly points to the New Republic having even tighter restrictions on arming ships then the Empire did given that the Errant Venture was no match for the Invisious, yet Lord d'Asta's forces, consisting of small gunboats on par with the ARC-170 and its replacement the Skipray Blastboat, were able to disable or destroy an unnamed star destroyer.

Publius, your essays are always a pleasue to read and a treasure of information. Only bad thing is, there aren't enough of them.

How much volume has a Lucrehulk again (the entire ship, not just the coreship)?

So if one third of the galaxies freighters are shipping imperial war-materials does that mean an increase of transportation-abilities by 50% in comparison to OR-times?

Another nail in the coffin of the DS being such a large project.

Is the RandEcliptic now a freighter or a frigate? Because in Darklighter nothing was indicating, that the ship had anything to do with the transportation of goods. I'm hesitant to assume it to be some kind of freighter-warship just because it is called "Class2". There is a Class-1000-cruiser, after all (okay, bad point since this kind of vessel is a type of systems patrol craft).

Great Resynchronisation. It's a recent point when the dating system was reset to a year zero, and is basically analogous to the Imperial dating system Zahn used in The Thrawn Trilogy. 35 BBY is 0 GR, IIRC.

Makes a hell of a lot more sense than turning an external dating system into something actually used in-universe (the whole BBY/ABY thing).

Three years earlier; TPM takes place in 3 GR (32 BBY).

Three years before, IIRC, it was an attempt to "unify" the different peoples of the Republic by giving everyone a common time-reference. We all know how well that worked. :P
