Greatest Fanfic Moments

Post by Noble Ire »

Since there seems to be "best of" thread trend of sorts going around, I thought that it would be only fitting for fan-made works to be recognized. The concept is simple; what moments, fanfiction or original, hosted either here or elsewhere on the internet, are the most memorable? The most exciting battle sequence, most moving speech, most eloquent introduction, anything. Feel free to mention your own works, but be prepared for people to call you on it.

Obviously, spoilers are par for the course.

I'll start things off. Pick's Dark Councilors has had innumerable awesome segments, but the three that stand out the out in my mind are Lauer's death, Plin's execution, and the scene in which Shader innocently tells Nyanpeen that he's just poisoned him to death. They're all so brutally surprising, and yet make perfect sense. Of course, the comedic moments are just as good, like Veridgris' mishap with her fingernails and the table early on, or Zixer's inattentiveness to Fvier's gender. :)

There are several moments in the Battle of the Hymn series (by Knife and Lonestar) that also stand out to me, like the sudden deaths of Lord Wong and Marina.

Well somebody sure likes the death ... .

I think one of my favorite fic moments is from Duchess'/Steve's 55 Days in Kalunda piece. I really need to get back to reading it, but one scene I particularly remember is Jhakya taking one last look at the city. It has some absolutely wonderful imagery, and works very well. I should mention that I have incredible regard for any tale that is written by more than one person. I think that requires a stunning level of quality cooperation.

I have other examples too, but right now my brain is not working as well as I'd prefer :?.
"The rest of the poem plays upon that pun. On the contrary, says Catullus, although my verses are soft (molliculi ac parum pudici in line 8, reversing the play on words), they can arouse even limp old men. Should Furius and Aurelius have any remaining doubts about Catullus' virility, he offers to fuck them anally and orally to prove otherwise." - Catullus 16, Wikipedia

Upon review, you bring up a good point. Ominous. :P

Non-fatal moments...

Well, I really did like the opening speech in Kuja's "Unnamed Halo fic". It caught the Sangheili mindset very nicely, I think.

One that comes to mind is Thrawn quoting "My name is Ozymandias, King of Kings: Look upon my works, ye Mighty, and despair!" in Chuck's series. The time Chuck blew up Coruscant was pretty memorable as well :D.

I always love the bit in Starcrossed where the spires of a space station around Earth fall directly upon Darkstar and his cronies... :D

There are multiple moments in Chuck's series which I would consider the greatest, some of which have won awards (GSDAs).

IMO I had a great moment too back near the end of my first fanfic (which is almost painful for me to read now).

Mrs. Chardok emerging from the Fuck Closet in Fast Times is my personal favorite moment from that series. If I recall correctly, we wrote the entire episode around that joke.

-Conquest: Superlaser from the Eclipse firing past Earth and striking the Moon. Jaina Solo slaughtering Borg. ST Officers unwittingly founding life on Coruscant.

-Manifest Destiny: Captain Janeway looking like a damned idiot in front of high ranking Starfleet and UFP officers. The Sith assasinations

-Manifest Destiny 2: Depiction of Republic prison camp.

-TBO: The Nuking of Germany

-LT Hitman's fanfic reviews.

My death scene in Battle of the Hymn. Well really the whole final day of the battle collectively between the singing and the charging and the final effort it was amazing. However what tops it is just imagining the fourth christmas from back earlier.

Carrotglance's 'Insertion'.
A short quote from chapter 83 to illustrate my reason for picking it.
"Hmmm, I sense anger," commented Yoda. "The Dark Side has two chief weapons, fear leads to anger, anger leads to...The Dark Side has three chief weapons, fear leads to anger, anger leads to hate, hate leads to...the dark side has four, four chief weapons, fear leads to anger, anger leads to hate, hate leads to suffering!" said Yoda wisely.
and another
"Arrogant he is," commented Yoda. He frowned suddenly and looked thoughtful.
"Five, five chief weapons of the Dark Side! Arrogance leads to..."

I don't read many fics due to time and my own caution about not wanting to be influenced but the ones that I have read there were two that had some great moments.

Mike's twist ending at the end of Conquest is the reason I wrote Starcrossed. It showed me how someone can breath life into and bring new perspective into both franchises.

There was a small fic by Mark S a very long time ago about Boba Fett and the neat little revelation in the end regarding Boba Fett's name and what it means in BASIC brought a smile to my face.

Great stuff.

I require the title, so that I might read this.

Just search under Mark S I believe the title had "Treasure" in the title.

Close, but I was looking for How Stravo got his groove back, the only fanfic I can remember that made me laugh out loud in real life. :D

Nothing really beats out, for me, Imperial Walkers advancing on San Fransico. It was great, and I can't wait until it comes out on DVD, Strav.

Lonestar has some great moments, not to mention just having a fanfic based off of my fic in itself is flattering as hell, in BotH Chonicles. He's killed off two people now, and so suddenly, it makes you sit up and tell your computer; "HEY!"

The whole bit with the expedition up north with warewolves and abandoned Greek cities was cool too.
They say, "the tree of liberty must be watered with the blood of tyrants and patriots." I suppose it never occurred to them that they are the tyrants, not the patriots. Those weapons are not being used to fight some kind of tyranny; they are bringing them to an event where people are getting together to talk. -Mike Wong

But as far as board culture in general, I do think that young male overaggression is a contributing factor to the general atmosphere of hostility. It's not SOS and the Mess throwing hand grenades all over the forum- Red

Oh, didn't see this, so in that case;

I'm particularly proud of how the sequence of battles from the Eastern Approach to the Battle of the Wall and the Long Night ended up. I think I wove in enough characters with out going too far and flooding it, and got some memrable moments off of people like Magi and Lonestar, as well as the Battle Maiden herself along with Stravo.

The Fourth Christmas was truely a high point as well.

Recently, I'm very happy with how Adam Goodheart is turning out, I like his gauntlet through the Federation ship with all the Spaarti. I think I did a good job of balancing the POV between what particular move he was doing to taking a larger view of the situation and the thoughts and emotions of those involved.

I'm also very happy with the rebel commando raid on the USS Enterprise in Rebellion in Paradise. I thought it worked out great and ened up really likeing my Z-teams.
