"Jedi Academy" Space Battles
What can y'all tell me about "Jedi Academy"? Is it a good buy if I liked "Jedi Outcast"? Also, detail on the space battles portion with the Star Destroyers would be appreciated.

Dude, Jedi Academy makes Jedi Outcast look like crap. That's how awesome it is.
Not only are you a Jedi from the start this time, meaning none of this rediscover the Force Valley of the Jedi crap, but there's a whole bunch of new moves added for the light, medium, and heavy styles, a selection of lightsabre hilts (and you can download custom ones from the itnernet as well as get a tool to make your own), and of course, using two sabres and the Darth Maul "sabre staff" as an option, with special moves for them too. Really awesome looking moves.
I only recently reinstalled it and finished it again, just for fun.
Highly recommended. Buy it, we'll organize a deathmatch sometime
Did I mention the awesome moves?
A personal favorite- get in a sabre lock with an opponent while using two lightsabres. Laugh when you win and you kill him by force throwing one of your lightsabres around him in a circle to kill him.

Huh. Maybe I just never played it enough, but it seemed like saber locks just didn't occur as much as in Outcast. In fact, I don't think I've ever gotten a lock in Academy.
That and the multiplayer just seemed to lack the soul of Outcast's. Better moves and stuff, yeah, but the carnage and mayhem that was such a blast in MotS and Outcast just seemed missing, probably due to the utter lack of any firearms in most of the modes.

I got saber locks all the time in single player. There were some cool breaks, though. Like if you win a lock with two sabers, you maintain the lock with one saber while you toss the second saber with the Force and hack your opponent to pieces.Brother-Captain Gaius wrote:Huh. The Excellent Prismatic Spray. For when you absolutely, positively must kill a motherfucker. Accept no substitutions. Contact a magician of the later Aeons for details. Some conditions may apply.

Yes and yes, as well as over cliffs (nothing as satisfying as tossing some tough-talking dark Jedi over a conveniently placed nearby bottomless cliff) and into the air (if you have high level Force Jump and Pull, you can jump over enemies and pull them into the air, and with Force Jump level 3, you jump and pull them high enough that it counts as an instant falling death for many enemies.) Also, there's the wonderful combo of using grip to hold them in the air and toss a lightsaber into them, or fry them with lightning. Using lightning with both hands is absolutely devastating.Bounty wrote:I've walked past this one in the bargain bin a few times, maybe I'll pick it up. Do you get to Force-choke people? One thing I must recommend - in the standard game, although you will occasionally slice off a hand or leg, it is a VERY rare thing even though you are using a weapon exquisitely designed to lop off limbs. The game becomes much more fun if you add one of the mods upping the dismemberment rate.

one of my favourites is a mod called Sithworld that gives nearly all of your enemies a Lightsaber and force powers equaling their level of difficulty

The ultimate lightning level is the Imperial Dreadnought you get captured by. Walking into rooms and corridors without even a sabre ignited, just spewing out force lightning with both hands, killing shitloads of Stormtroopers etc per blast.Using lightning with both hands is absolutely devastating.

Okay, impressions and questions:
* Fun game. Not perfect, but fun. It looks and sounds like you'd expect a SW game to look and sound.
* Weapons are broken. Well, they work, but six shots with a bowcaster to bring down a mercenary? Yeah, sure. The blaster pistol feels like it's shooting blanks - it takes two shots to trigger a lasermine!?
* I've got a weird problem in the Bakura stage - there's these guys with blasters (officers, I guess) who turn invisible (Bug? Feature?) and whenever they do, the game slows down to 3 frames/sec. Runs smooth as butter everywhere else and when they're visible.
* Smacking a stormtrooper into a wall and hearing that lovely crunching sound -> brilliant.
* The first level was hilarious - every time I tried to attack those lizard things the retard following me died. Then he asked me to cut a tree and stood under it as it fell - dead. I try to sheathe my saber - he dies. How did this dimwit even get selected?

I was looking here, but I don't know which are the ones I'd need. There's four dismemberment mods, for example; I don't feel like installing all of them just to see which is better.Lord Pounder wrote: Here is a list of some of the best mods i've found

What do you need a gun for? It's Jedi Academy. You use three to four weapons in this game, no more:Bounty wrote:Okay, impressions and questions:

- Lightsabre
- Rocket Launcher (PLX whatever)
- Disruptor Rifle (sniping fun)
- Stouker Concussion Rifle
That's it.
Weird. Never heard of that.* I've got a weird problem in the Bakura stage - there's these guys with blasters (officers, I guess) who turn invisible (Bug? Feature?) and whenever they do, the game slows down to 3 frames/sec. Runs smooth as butter everywhere else and when they're visible.

If they're going to add blasters, especially the heavier ones, they could at least have done it properly. One shot to take down an unarmoured enemy, maybe two for a stormtrooper, but not this empty-a-clip-and-he's-still-standing nonsense. What do you need a gun for? It's Jedi Academy. You use three to four weapons in this game, no more:
I agree that you don't really need any weapons apart from the lightsaber but it was still a disappointment. You can select a disruptor TX-6 or something that's hyped up as being so inhumane it's technically banned, but in-game it's just another gun firing blanks in a slightly different colour.
Bah, I'll try to see if there's a mod to tweak firepower settings.
Lightsaber combat makes up for it, though. Force choke + saber throw = hilarity.

Use its scope mode and hold down fire to charge it up. Once you're at full power, it's usually instagib.Bounty wrote:

...yeah, that works. But the other guns are still too weak. I want my blaster to take chucks out of walls, damnit, not give my target a mild rash
I'm looking into the slowdown issue and it looks like it's a problem with Radeon drivers and certain effects. No fix yet, but some people've had succes with turning off certain enhanced glows, so I'll give that a try.
And I'm stuck on the third bomb...

I do like Academy, I now spend most of my time on Taspir with god mode on, fighting simply ungodly numbers of Outcast Reborn and abusing the dismemberment model.
(In the console, g_saberrealisticombat 2 enables full slicing & dicing)
I now habitually wield dual Frostmournes, because I'm that hardcore.
Found some amusing Clone Wars cartoon models, too. I'll see if I can find a link...

According to wikipedia, "the Mohorovičić discontinuity is the boundary between the Earth's crust and the mantle."
According to Starbound, it's a problem solvable with enough combat drugs to turn you into the Incredible Hulk.

While it doesn't look as cool, level 3 Force Drain is much better than lightning. It covers the same area, but while it does less damage, it also heals you rapidly. You can literally take out every non-Jedi character in the game just by running around with level 3 drain and come out with maxed out health.weemadando wrote:Go dark side for a while. The first three force points should be spent exclusively on Force Lightning.
Then spend the game running round screaming:
"UN-LIMITED POOOOWEEEEEEEEEEEEER!"
Also, online, go Light Side with level 3 absorb and protect. All the noobs go dark side because hey, it's the easy way. With absorb on, if they grip, lightning, drain, or even push or pull you, you absorb it and it replenishes your force powers. I love to stand by a cliff and wait for some noob to try the grip-toss on me to knock me off, then absorb his attack and counter with my own force push

Oh hey, is the SD.net server still up?
