I get to see my desktop for the amount of time it takes for my computer to finish loading-up, and for me to go to the start menu and begin opening things. That's enough to warrant having something nice to look at.
I always turn the monitor off when I leave the room and don't shut down the computer.

Oh I see. Maybe I *should* post mine, then: I have no background, but every time I prune out everything I've got on the desktop... it just fills up in a day or so.

That's why I use picture-frame streaming porn from the fileserver. It's probably also significant that I seldom turn off my computer, and my LCD is smart enough to turn itself off if nothing's happening.
I changed mine. I wanted something extremely graphic, but I could not find anything to fit my resolution. I was browsing Google looking for a background pic for a customized menu for the movie The Descent, and I came across this image, which I resized and used as a wallpaper.

Yeah, I always have Firefox maximized as well. However, I don't think the original point of this thread was to show off what your screen looks like most of the time. Just going by the title, I think it's obvious that it's for showing off your desktop background and your current theme, which is what we've all been doing.
Regarding neatness, I used to keep a lot of icons on my desktop, but I had the great idea of putting all my desktop icons for games into my Quick Launch bar, and just have all but my original five icons there hidden. That way, all my games are easily accessible by clicking the arrow at the right of the bar, and my desktop is nice and uncluttered.
どうして?お前が夜に自身お触れるから。 Long ago in a distant land, I, Aku, the shape-shifting Master of Darkness, unleashed an unspeakable evil,
but a foolish samurai warrior wielding a magic sword stepped forth to oppose me. Before the final blow
was struck, I tore open a portal in time and flung him into the future, where my evil is law! Now, the fool
seeks to return to the past, and undo the future that is Aku...

A Government founded upon justice, and recognizing the equal rights of all men; claiming higher authority for existence, or sanction for its laws, that nature, reason, and the regularly ascertained will of the people; steadily refusing to put its sword and purse in the service of any religious creed or family is a standing offense to most of the Governments of the world, and to some narrow and bigoted people among ourselves.

Lovely image, though.

You bet your ass thats a fan ship. You can't really see it in that picture, but this ship really follows the spirit of the Prometheus and the Daedalus designs from Stargate.

Actually its kinda obvious its from Stargate, I just couldn't tell if it was a concept render for the show or fanmade (because it does have a good bit of detail, more than I'm use to in fan stuff). You don't have a link, do you?
She's a beauty of a ship. The guy put over 900,000 polygons into making her.

So it's the Goa'uld word for 'Human' then.
Not quite - its the Goa'uld for humans from Earth.
More likely an alternate word for Terran or Earthling. Its a combination word for both the planet and the people. Often you hear "People of the Tau'ri".
