Put simply, as yet I've seen nothing which makes me think C&C 3 will be anything other than an RTS of at least equal calibre to the likes of Dawn of War. From the screenshots, the lighting effects seem to be better than DoW, and a greater emphasis on storyline is excellent news.

I've been looking through the forums on their site and I've found some info that I'm pretty sure is true. Some is from an EA employee on that board and the rest is apparently passed down from people who've seen the multiplayer games Leizig.

Blue Tiberium is back, but it's not certain that it will have the same properties as it did in TS yet.

You can't build as many superweapons as you please like in Generals.

Engineers still capture enemy buildings.

Infantry comes in squads, with some units such as snipers and engineers being the exception.

Those all sound good.

Oh, god. The GDI infantry look like some bizzare fusion of Captain Falcon from F-Zero and freakin' Samas Aran from Metroid.

I'm so happy to have the mammoth back, but it looks a bit dumb. The barrels look like they curve down at the back of the tank. Probably not, but even still I don't like the look of the barrels going all the way to the back of the tank. I was hoping for more of a Red Alert or the first game look.

The Orcas look kinda spindly, but I'm glad they're back, as well. I would be sad if the venerable ol' Orcas went bye-bye.

The new mammoths don't honestly look like conventional tanks, but they're still pretty cool.

looks like a nice game, however graphics will be a bitch as I have a older comp, and I will miss building multipule buildings at once... Generals has taught me to hate the MCV and love the dozers/workers.

I listened to the dev podcasts. Sounds interesting some of the stuff that they are talking about... Though what will the third faction be? Please tell me that Umagon and co. aren't returning.

The Scrin stuff was pretty heavy-handed in TS, yea...

They're keeping the third faction quiet. My guess is that it's either the Forgotten, CABAL, or the Scrin. Some people are speculating Yuri but I very strongly doubt that.

The Forgotten would seem to be a likely choice, but Tratos was killed in Firestorm and Umagon's mutations apparently became so advanced that she might as well be dead. The ghost stalker and I assume the mutant hijacker were still kicking around at the time of Firestorm. There's no recognizable face for the Forgotten, but then again, there's no face of GDI, either, seeing as how General Solomon's going to bite it, unless they bring back General Cortez.

If the third faction isn't the Scrin, I'll eat my hat. It's that obvious. No amount of secrecy can compensate.

Considering the fact that Kane liked to recruit from the Third World, his equipment should match accordingly; you don't see that many African or Middle Eastern nations operating C-130s and AH-64s. Accordingly, the Brotherhood should have been fielding Soviet-vintage equipment circa Tiberian Dawn; the Mi-24 is a foregone conclusion as a Nod replacement for the Apache, while Antonov An-12s and Mil Mi-8s would fit the bill for decent transports (in place of C-130s and CH-47s, respectively). And yes, I do agree that they should've used PT-76s in place of modified M2s (retconning in Renegade notwithstanding).

As for the third faction, I also agree that it should be the Scrin. Nod might have found a way to get CABAL back under their control (not bloody likely, though); the Forgotten would most likely get absorbed into the GDI. Yuri would have long since been deceased.

One of the maps depicting GDI/Nod allegiance in Tiberian Dawn showed China as being a Nod supporter; I imagine that would be a major source of the more advanced technology.

Renegade makes it clear that most of the vehicles used by NOD are of their own manufacture. I imagine the Apaches they got were former US military that NOD sympathizers managed to get over to NOD. Same with the Commanche.

Still, a good deal of Chinese military tech is Soviet-derived, thus going back around to my thesis about Nod using Soviet tech instead of American.

Well, that basically kills a great deal of my argument; I'm surprised that I overlooked it in the first place.

Sakura used to work for the GDI before Nod paid her off; maybe she took the Comanche with her when she defected.

The refrences to the GDI infantry is both to the fact that they llook like ridiculous morons in super-football-gear, and that their football helmets aren't environmentally sealed. Not very smart, if you ask me.

I'm surprised that there isn't more technology based off the Hover MRLS platform from TiberianSun.

EDIT: If there's one thing I want them to bring back from the old games, it's building walls. There's nothign like making a beautiful-looking base and admiring it while the Skirmish-mode AI beats itself helplessly agaisnt your walls. Especially if they include the Generals feature of rotating buildings.

There's also the power suit that Ignatio and Sydney Mobius developed in Renegade; it may be a blatant ripoff of the Half-Life HEV suit, but it's not as retarded as the GDI infantry armour in the C&C3 concept art. Still, would it have killed either Ignatio or Sydney to put a sealed helmet on that thing?

The Mobius suit might have been the predecessor of the GDI's Tiberian Sun infantry armour, though the latter is considerably less bulky and contains a sealed helmet.

I wonder if they're just going to ignore the Nod ending of Firestorm or not. Playing the Nod campaign and discovering I've been serving CABAL at the end would annoy the hell out of me.

There's a rumor kicking around the C&C3 forums that the blossom trees won't make another appearance, and are being replaced by "glowing green holes." I've no idea how credible this one is, though.

As of the First Tiberium War, the Apache is pushing fifty years in age. The US Army probably considers it obsolete, and uses Orcas or Comanches as their primary VTOL gunships.
