Traitor by Matthew Stover ( Spoilers)

Post by David »

I have only read up to page thirty six of this book but so far it is kicking the shmit out of every other SW book, including the Thrawn trilogy. This is one of the most interesting parts so far. This is on of the YV agents, Nom Anor, talking to Warmaster Tsavong Lah, one of the ivasions leaders.

"Their politics are your concern," Tsavong Lah growled. " Their strengh in fighting is mine."

(Nom Anor) "The two are, in this case, more closely related than the warmaster might suspect. For a quarter of a standard century, the Solo family has dominated galactic affairs of all kinds. Even the warmaster of the Jedi is none other thanJacen Solo's uncle. This uncle, Luke Skywalker, is popularly considered to have singlehandedly created the New Republic by defeating an older, much more rational government called the Empire. And, I might add, it is fortunate that he did; the Empire was vastly more organized, powerful, and potently militaristic. Lacking the internal divisions we have exploited so successfully in the New Republic, the Empire would have crushed our people utterly in their first encounter."
Tsavong Lah bristled. " The True Gods would never have allowed such a defeat!"

Nom Anor then goes on to tell Lah that it was the gods will that the Empire be defeated so that the YV could attack. The Lah agreess. But anyways there you have it, if the YV had faced the Empire they would have been crushed, from YV commander's own lips.

Now we have the proof for what we already suspected:
The Empire would have won, and the New Republic is responsible for the death of billions or perhaps trillions, and for the destruction of countless planets.

Absolutely, I think it is setting up the return of the Imerial Remnant onto the scene. Matthew Stover is my new favorite author.

At the same time would you cheapen the legacy of one of the most beloved (and original) characters in the EU with a clone plot line? Clones of dead villains has always been a cop out in my opinion.

Maybe not the whole of the story line ( Stover has to work with what he has been given), but the richness of detail and character development has drawn me in.

I was VERY excited about this book, and I was not very disappointed at all.

I love Stover's other works (non-SW variety), and I was hoping that he would turn Jacen around IMO. I had not liked Jacen at all until this point in the series, but I think my opinion changed because of that book. It should be VERY controversial on the internet, once everyone has finished it, because I'm not sure that everyone will understand it, and not everyone who understands it will like it at all. Have a good read, everyone!

BTW, I wouldn't say it is as good as the incredible Thrawn trilogy or SbS, but it is definitely worth spending a few bucks on.
