Disgaea 2: Cursed Memories
I'm kinda pissed, because it won't be out over here for atleast another month, maybe two depending on which site you look at. However it was released in the US on tuesday, so has anyone picked it up yet?

Personally, I prefered LP's story to Disgaea, but overall in terms of gameplay and customisation, Disgaea is better than LP. I also liked being able to convert enemy monsters to my side and then training them, though in the end, the game relies a lot more on the story characters than the one's you convert. (You don't make units in LP.) It's definetly worth playing.Molyneux wrote:This may be slightly off-topic, but I just wanted to ask someone who's played the Disgaea games...
How does La Pucelle: Tactics stack up to the rest?

He's not in the manual's character list, even though Laharl, Etna, and Flonne all are. However, there have been cameos of characters from other N1 games so far, so he might be involved in the game at one point. I haven't gotten that far.Sharp-kun wrote:One question actually:
Captain Gordon.
Is he there?
I really like the game so far. It avoided the tiny sprites and lack of grid that N1's recent games have used but took the good parts of those games (you get EXP from healing and buffing now!).
Also, there are a lot of new classes and, best of all, they balanced the weapons. There are reasons to use bows and spears now!

Wait, there weren't any reasons to use spears in the first one?Grandmaster Jogurt wrote:Also, there are a lot of new classes and, best of all, they balanced the weapons. There are reasons to use bows and spears now!
My two biggest damage characters, Etna and a Samurai, were spear users from the start and were unmatched until Laharl got the Diabolic Blade from one of the castle vassels in the final chapter.
It helps that I managed to get Legendary spears for both of them relatively early on, but those Legendary spears long outperformed the legendary sword I found for Laharl in early game. Good range, good damage, powerful single-target specials (Avalanche was my bread & butter). They're not as great for area effect, but Asteroid Drop, Turbulence, and Spear Storm are still quite powerful, and less of a pain to use than Winged Slayer.

Shit, it's out that soon over here? I need to get done with Makai Kingom.
I keep trying to get back into Disgaea, but it hurts. The story's great, but why must you make my healers kill people? That's.... wrong.

According to wikipedia, "the Mohorovičić discontinuity is the boundary between the Earth's crust and the mantle."

One word, Longinus. Gave it to Etna and she kicked all kinds of ass.Shadowhawk wrote:Wait, there weren't any reasons to use spears in the first one?

You think that's bad? I'm still on Phantom Brave.Vanas wrote:Shit, it's out that soon over here? I need to get done with Makai Kingom.
Just let them participate in combo attacks with guys that can actually do some damage.I keep trying to get back into Disgaea, but it hurts. The story's great, but why must you make my healers kill people? That's.... wrong.

*shrug* Maybe. I stopped using spears about halfway through the story because I was disappointed that my spear users were underperforming compared to the other characters, so I guess my view wasn't very accurate.Shadowhawk wrote:[snip quote]

Regardless, spears got a boost in the sequel, since they now give defense bonuses and increase your dodge rate from the front (or something; the manual is confusing in the latter regard).
