Are we assuming it was intentional and not a mistake? Or is there a quote I missed? After all she doesn't do any research to speak of.Darth Servo wrote:Can we start a petition to get this arrogant idiot fired from LFL?Ender wrote:She now insists that Boba Fett was 13 years old at the Battle of Geonosis.

Well internet petitions mean about jack shit. Like one arrogant fuck from the Insider said, actual mail is still the best way to get anything done aside from getting a boycot of her SW work going, which is going to be a bitch because of the built in buy anything fanbase that SW has, so that profits from her stories are so shitty they fire her. But I'll sign.Darth Servo wrote:Can we start a petition to get this arrogant idiot fired from LFL?Ender wrote:She now insists that Boba Fett was 13 years old at the Battle of Geonosis.

Online petitions achieve jack shit. However, it would be fun to get several hundred signatures on a petition against Traviss's 3 million crap (and her attitude and actions while defending it), and then e-mail the link to her.
"They're not triangular, but they are more or less blade-shaped"- Thrawn McEwok on the shape of Bakura destroyers

Regarding the age of Boba Fett, I made a post on the previous page as to where this "retconn" might originate.
It's important to give positive criticism as well and I think it's great that KT somewhat accurately portrayed the speed of the hyperdrives. What's more important though is the story and the continuity of Bloodlines and I can't comment on that (other than what I've learned from this thread).
Traviss says that she doesn't read reviews or bothers with negative or positive criticism (that's what she said...) which begs the question: Why then signing up on various message boards to communicate with fans about her works etc.? She says outright that she doesn't care, so why does people bother to post and to accept that if you've asked a badly worded question (from Ms. Traviss perspective) then you're told off by Traviss who implies that the question is disrespectful or otherwise insulting (I don't know how many times I've seen that). I'm tired to see that rant about "libel" etc. and it seems as if it's being used as a shield against criticism.
I also don't understand why DM is allowed free reigns as he is. IMO he embarrasses LFL by threatening Wookieepedia because someone dared to criticize Traviss. I'm also tired of him lumping the actions of people together. I've never posted in her personal blogs, I've never e-mailed her, I've never called her any names (although I have commented frankly on what I don't like which I, and everyone else, is fully entitled to), I've never, unlike DM, went around all over the Internet and signed on to blogs just to attack other people.

No, its the closest to max speed he can accomplish, given that the Hyperdrive is in rather poor shape (in fact it pretty much gives out on him) so its not neccesarily top of the line performance.Stas Bush wrote:Indeed; however, is it not the Falcon at max speed? That's strange. If the Falcon has one of the best hyperdrives in the Galaxy, and it's max speed is that of the simultaneous Rebel fleet jump...
As for speed.. I can just point out that an Acclamator has a class .6 hyperdrive...
It has been said (among other things...) that the age thing is a mistake which will be corrected for the next printing:

Finally forced myself to finish book, and Fett does tie back in, but barely. He does so because there is a need for someone to die, and Han can't kill someone.
The fact that he has gunned down dozens, if not hundreds of people in cold blood when he was a smuggler and fighting in the rebellion must have been retconned as well.
We have 1 incidence where hyperdrive speed is at least FTL and two where it is not. Not a good track record.
For reference on that 80 kg/cm^2 bit: We use a type of steel called HY80 steel in the construction fo submarine hulls. It has a yield strength of 5700 kg/cm^2. Israel also unveiled a new kind of body armor last year, where the material can resist 250 TONS/cm^2.

Yeah, and in the same thread that idiot Moose and Travissty chalk it up to a talifan conspiracy.Mange wrote:It has been said (among other things...) that the age thing is a mistake which will be corrected for the next printing:

What do you expect from them? A moderator who takes great pride in banning other members and thinks he's better at it than the other SW.com moderators (+http://www.youaredumb.net/forum/index.p ... msg=741.63 ) and an author who can't stand negative feedback and who says herself that she doesn't care what the fans are saying and who has the said moderator as an opinion police. Everything is the "Talifans" fault and fans who expresses negative criticism are used as punching bags to cover for continuity errors.Lord Poe wrote:Yeah, and in the same thread that idiot Moose and Travissty chalk it up to a talifan conspiracy.Mange wrote:It has been said (among other things...) that the age thing is a mistake which will be corrected for the next printing:

What do they claim is a talifan conspiracy, that she royally fucked up the high canon? Specifically the dating system? Or just that her book sucks?
I think I'm gonna make a list of all the times Bloodlines contradicts the movies. It could be a pretty fucking long list.

I was going to buy Bloodlines. I've always been a whore for completism and against my better judgemant i bought Betrayal and was pleasently suprised. But fuck it i'm not handing over a brass penny to that piece of shit. If enough people refuse to buy KT's work and become very vocal in the right circles about it someone important is bount to take notice and have her fired.
The SW EU has become rather like the last days of the OR bloated and full of it's own bullshit (Travis's work in perticular), someone need to put an end to the EU while some of the old magic still exists.

I don't want KT fired or anything, she's a fairly good author even if I don't like the Mando'a stuff, the things about that GAR (the Mando'a singing etc.), the three million absurdity, the attempts of changing the Clone Wars into a "small scale brush fire war" and that she doesn't care about the continuity and doesn't do her research. However, seeing that she can't handle negative criticism, calls people who has payed good money for her novels "Talifans" for giving criticism and other completely unaccaptable things and says outright that she doesn't care about negative or positive criticism or reviews. She says that she "has opinions, and [that] she ain't afraid to use them., but why then should fans be afraid of expressing criticism (and be talked down to as if you were a child when criticism is expressed with variants of "I'm a journo, I know the best") and to be banned by the opinion police DM.
I'm not buying anymore of Karen Traviss' novels, at least not until an apology has been issued and when there are serious changes about how she expresses herself about fans. That is my decision.

It's an editing mistake. It's going to be fixed in the next print. It's a result of some change in the dating of the books or something.Ender wrote: What do they claim is a talifan conspiracy, that she royally fucked up the high canon? Specifically the dating system? Or just that her book sucks?

Yup, those continuity editors are sure on the ball...Cunt Traviss wrote: You should know the continuity rules well enough by now to know that the content of every story is checked and approved by LFL at every stage. If it contradicted anything, it wouldn't get published in the first place.

They're very similar in the sense that they can't be bothered to learn the technical details of Star Wars but they add technical details into their books anyway, and they really don't seem to care about consistency with the films. The only difference is that Traviss has some kind of psychological issue which makes her react to criticism by going apeshit and wailing all over the Internet like a banshee.

Thank you. I appreciate the kind words.
I took the base from the movies. That's what the Big Three are to me. I think it helped not reading SW books. (Or any books, as you know...) I have to work characters out for myself. That's not to say other writers are wrong, because the fun of the EU is finding the writer who sees what you see in the cast, and we all have different views; but I looked at those characters, ran through the traumas they'd had in the intervening years, and asked: "What's that going to do to them? Who have they become?"
Sane authors would probably cost a lot more.Cao Cao wrote:Ok. Well. Is it just me or does LFL have a habit of hiring authors with severe mental problems?
To be serious out of twenty or thirty authors KT sticks out like a sore thumb (won't comment on Anderson, since I don't know the exact circumstances) with her behavior. That doesn't mean, that the others delivered what we would call quality-work, but they hardly make the kind of temper-tantrum Mrs. Traviss does.
The optimist thinks, that we live in the best of all possible worlds and the pessimist is afraid, that this is true.

It is simply amazing that she has the temerity to attempt to pass off her complete lack of research and preparation as though it were a good thing. Her protestations to the contrary, it betrays an insulting lack of seriousness about her work. It positively smacks of appalling unprofessionalism.
