This is just a silly little idea i just had. It might very well be that something like this already exists so the mods are free to delete this thread in that case. I have looked around though for stuff like this, but haven't found antyhing like it.
When writing and reading fics i've always been fascinated by that fact that the writer basically gets to be the general strategist in battles and the commander of all the forces involved. So why not turn this into a game like thing? Like WH40K, only to fit online boards like this.
For instance, let's take the Federation vs. Galactic Empire which seems to be so popular as an example. Make two teams, each who is given control of one of the powers. And have a third team that act as judges, that decide weather something is allowed or not, and putting down how much time certain things would take, the outcome of battles and stuff like that.
Then play it out, see who wins. It would take a lot of work i know, especially on the judges part. Maybe even too much work to be feasable. But in any case i thought i would just bring it up and see what people thought of it.

Well, GE vs Feds is just one example. You could use the same method with any verse. You don't even have to have two different verses. And you could limit the whole thing to just one engagement.
I'm frankly a little surprised that something like this doesn't exist yet. When you think about all the other crazy stuff i've been confronted with lately.

I have visions of the referee from Celebrity Death Match observing Earth's BDZ'd corpse and declaring "I'll allow it!"Hawkwings wrote:Federation: "We surrender"
Empire: "Your surrender is unaccaptable. Prepare to die."
GE blows up Fed ships.
Judges: "Well, that looks legit to me. Galactic Empire wins."
Total time: less that it took for me to write this post.

What is this thread even asking? Asking people to basically wargame how they would run a campaign with certain assets is old hat. We've done all of that; how would you conduct a war, how would you conduct yourself if you had just one stranded ISD in Federation territory, etc. What's the point of having judges to assess how you did, when that would only lead to the inevitable arguments about the judge's judgment?

No, i was thinking more along the lines if anybody has ever thought about creating a wargame like system fit for forums, you know, like WH40K or D&D, you get turns, assets and the like. And then you bascially pit two teams, each controlling one force, against each other. The judges are just there to say how things turn out and make sure things stay fair. Of course the players are going to get mad at the judges from time to time, that happens in normal sports too. But if the judges word is final, then there isn't much to argue about, just like in sports.Darth Wong wrote:What is this thread even asking? In essence, it would be much like a vs debate, only in a game format. You think up strategies on how to perform attacks and what to do with the forces you have at your disposal in a turn like fashion. Heck, why not compare it to chess, only on a much larger scale, not to mention a lot more interesting since opponents can come up with strategies the other part never even thought of.
I just think it would be interesting to see how something like this would play out and wondered if there were any other out there who maybe thinks the same.

l33telboi it sounds like you want to start some kind of STGOD kind of thing, or something like this.
Get steam and you can buy SE:IV for a bit of change and join us. Or wait and get SE:V and come in when that happens.
Meanwhile if Stravo is watching this thread, I was wondering whether it would be possible to move the Star Trek RP thread in that link and immortalize it in the cleaned up fanfictions section of the forum. It's not really a fanfiction, but it kind of is, just written by more than one author, and it's complete. Thanks.

The STGOD thing seems to have a lot of things common to what i was purposing (at least at first glance, that's a ton of stuff to read through.)brianeyci wrote:l33telboi it sounds like you want to start some kind of STGOD kind of thing, or something like this.

It differs on a few points though, the STGOD thing seems to be more of a FFA then what i was purposing and it seems to be more openen ended. I was thinking more of like an established campaign setting with the goals defined.
Though i have to say i'm intrigued by the STGOD thing. I'm gonna have to sift trough it more thoroughly.
Thanks.
