[MSPaint] Akula Ship
Inspired by the first concept of a Bajoran vessel currently being designed by one 'Weyoun'.

Scale please. Is it fighter, cruiser what?

I'm thinking it'll mass rather less than a Defiant; it's role will be that of essentially a militarized production version of an experimental high-speed warp-dynamic testbed ship aimed at seeing how fast a Miranda-derived hull configuration can be made to go. It's scaled up from the testbed design and will be fitted with all the systems a modern Starfleet combat vessel can be expected to have. So far speeds of fifteen kilolights have been publically acknowledged...

When I read the description I thought you were making something akin to a Bajoran Interceptor-type system patrol ship, but I see you're aiming for something bigger.Inspired by the first concept of a Bajoran vessel

Decided the final hull color. It's a bright pearly bluish white (rather similar to TBOverse B-70 Valkyrie bombers!) to help with heat-rejection and electromagnetic reflectivity.
I also subtly altered the geometry of some of the curves.

Yes. This essentially translates to 'warp engines attached to primary hull, with or without a secondary hull'. In this case it's 'with'. I'm seriously considering a side view as well. Maybe I should just go forward with that.Bounty wrote:...Miranda-derived?
Y'all love your damn Nubian ships, dontcha? Can't say I blame you guys...Jack Bauer wrote:Looks rather Nubian to me. Still, good work so far.
Side view??

As you can see, I've made provision for a very large spinal weapon mount. I've chosen a design I call the 'Blast Phaser'. It doesn't fire bolts like a Pulse Phaser or beams like a standard phaser. It actually functions in a pulsed mode, rather like an early CO2 or ruby laser. It can handle all the core output channeled through it for a whole minute before firing in any number of programmable modes; ranging from one huge shot, through two-, three-, or five-shot-burst at variable points on the yield/RoF curve, to continuous full auto; again at various points on the Y/RoF curve. In the last case it could theoretically approximate a continuous beam phaser in effect.
I'm also installing two torpedo launchers to the underside of the primary hull flanking the Blast Phaser, four forward pulse phasers, and Edge-tech phasers around the saucer. I'm also considering using quantum phasers for the Edge-Techs.

Update.
I redesigned the anterior end of the Blast Phaser Mount fairing and added bleed vents for ejection of any atmospheric gases which enter the BPM when its door is open for gunfire. I also designed the Blast Phaser weapon itself as well as three concepts for a transatmospheric torpedo. Two are one meter calibre, while the third is 1.2m calibre.
I also drew in the wings for the side view and corrected the anterior ends of the nacelles for geometry with respect to the wing sections. They are really the same four-fold radial symmetry, but they now take into account the wing section shape.

Lookin' Good. The ship too!

WIP 8
Did quite a bit of work. Moved the main impulse engine and attached dorsal fin aft a good forty or sixty pixels, worked on the Blast Phaser, designed the door for the fairing, and installed the Primary Hull Phaser Array.
I still have the matter of the Aft Phaser Array, torpedo tubes, and four pulse phaser cannons to install. Then it's hull panels, (maybe) windows, and dorsal sensor dome atop the bridge.
EDIT: pesky tag. I also colored the torpedoes with their proper heatshield-material/high-temp alloy colors.

WIP 9
Installed more phaser strips on the engineering hull: one on the aft end and one on the belly. Reworked the nacelle fins and the top of the primary hull a bit as well. Reshaped trailing edge of the main wing inboard of the engine nacelles for greater wing area. Added high-temp alloy plate around the nav deflector. Slight redesign of the Main Gun Door.

have you considered placing phaser banks on the trailing edges of the fins? Or is that to much?

I think phaser bank hardware is too thick to fit within the fins' airfoil sections, particularly within the trailing edges.havokeff wrote:have you considered placing phaser banks on the trailing edges of the fins? Or is that to much?
Good thinking, however.
EDIT:
Another point on the power vs fire rate curve.
EDIT:
A third point on the curve, this time quite a bit more emphasis on per-shot power.
