stormtroopers vs. covenant elites

Post by Darksider »

here's the scenario a large imperial transport (possibly a galleon or star galleon) crash lands on a remote outpost of the covenant of halo about 900 stormtroopers survive the crash and the covenant have about 95o elites the stormie's objective is to get off of the planet by any means nessiscary (ex. steal ship or repair theirs) the elite's objective is to wipe out every surviving stormtrooper

Who the hell are the covenant?
They are the alien forces in the XBox game HALO. The "Covenant" are actually a coalition of various alien races united under a fanatical religious cause. (They are alien fundies :P) Their weapons and tech are pretty good. Close to Imperial level I would say.

In the HALO prequel Novel called "The Fall of Reach" The Covenant are capable of BDZing worlds which in the novel is refered to it as "glassing the planet"

An Elite in the game is quite formidible on higher difficulty. They use tactics and they have full body armor as well as personal energy shielding. The energy shields alone can take over 30 direct shots of 7.62mm ammo before fading out) . They usually carry generic plasma assault rifles which are not really powerful but can churn out around 420-600rounds per minute. There weapons overheat though after sustained fire and need several seconds to cool off.

I would say that the Covenant Elite has the advantage due to the whole energy shield their body armor carries and the fact they are around 8 ft tall with a better physical build. However, without the energy shield they can be taken out quite easily but can still get annoying at times due to them being Elites after all.

However, Elites are not very numerous and are only used as support for the generic easy to kill ground troop fodder the Covenant send out which consist of "grunts" and "jackals" and Storm Troopers would easily beat them, but 950 elites vs 900 common stormies would be too much for the stormies to handle unless they used strong guerilla tactics. Direct conflict wouldn't work in favor of the stormies in this case.

Elites also like to get in close and bash peoples heads in. Additonally, some elites have active-camoflauge instead of shields, and a select few Elites carry a plasma sword, which is a one-hit kill on all but the easiest difficulties.

I would have to hand the battle to the Elites. They have (recharging) shields, weapons with better rate of fire, faster reflexes, horribly strong melee attacks, and the needler. (Which is a nasty little projectile weapon which can lock onto targets and, if enough needles penetrate the body, causes a large explosion from within the person, causing damage to the area surrounding the target.)

i agree unless the stormies use grueilla tactics and pick them off one by one i'd have to hand it to the elites because of the shielding, personal cloak, plasma sword ect. but only the ones with cloaking and the plasma sword would get close enough to use it (im sure combind fire tactics from the stormies would take em down)

The Elites can hammer the stormies into so many pieces that the Flood couldn't bring 'em back. Elite shielding and armour can deflect blaster fire, and of course we mustn't forget the ability of plasma grenades to stick to enemy soldier.

the stormtroopers would probably lose because of the elites energy shielding and superior numbers but they would take a hell of alot of elites with them the empires finest do not go down without one hell of a fight
