oh, yeah about that steep winding grades thing, generally driving those at about 45mph, despite the fact they say 20mph, that's because of the fact I know the roads around yosemite really well....

Absolutely to the speed limit or below in any built up area, once I get out onto open roads, I usually stick to the +10% of the speed limit margin of error, unless we're talking motorways. Motorways, depending on the size of them, I usually go up to about 80ish which is usually the speed of traffic. On empty motorways or big motorways like stretches of the M1 or M6, I have been known to go up to 85, but that's my limit.

The limits here are 120 kph on highways in summer, 100 kph in winter, 50 to 80 kph on major roads and generally 40 or 50 kph inside city limits unless on a major road that only has a few designated crossings. I tend to drive at the limit or a bit over so that I don't fuck up the traffic flow, but I stick to the limits as closely as I can.

If there is not, I normally do around 200km/h if the road is clear, otherwise I stay with the flow, around 160-180km/h.

that would get you killed on the friendly roadways of Southern New England. either by causing a pile up or by pising someone off. The have been deliberate crashes caused by some nitwit "enforcing" the speed limit and pissing off some lunatic.

As for my driving habits, urban driving is often below speed limit and not by choice. Any day you can get close to the speed limit in Providence or Boston you should consider yourself lucky. Major highways i tend to go with traffic at 15-20 mph over the limit.

Try to follow speed limit, usually bit less. If someone doesn't like it, it is not my problem. Not going to take any risks of getting ticket with temporary license and ending re-taking lessons&tests.

When I first got my license 7 years ago I drove the limits pretty much all the time which I think everyone should stick to when they are first learning. After about 2 years experience I was doing and to this day continue to do what most people generally do, which is usually up to 20 kph over the limit.

Ive found that cops in this area atleast, unless its a school zone, don't *usually* care unless they catch you doing 25+ kph over the limit.

Big highways like the 401 here which are officially 100kph zones most people and myself average along at 120 kph and if its not too busy I'll do around 130-140kph. I won't exceed that speed range unless the roads are near empty and conditions are safe enough to do so.

So far the fastest I have ever taken my car up to was a short burst to about 202 kph or 125 mph on a long, empty, and well paved stretch of country highway (posted speed limit was 80kph :P ) My car is capable of 225 kph (140mph) and the tires I bought for it are more than capable of handling such a speed as well, but I havent had the courage to try that yet.

That reminds me of a show on MTW where some guy said, sitting in a pimped-up Ford, that he loved the "kick" of doing 160km/h with 6000 RPM on a street. It was a WTF? moment for me. 160 and getting a kick out of it??

Given the somewhat draconian nature of Australian speed enforcement, I consistently drive at +10% of the speedlimit, perhaps more on highways. Nothing shits me more than speedlimit drivers in the righthand lane (the 'inside' lane for you Americans).

I don't drive yet but Cpl Kendall drives 5 over the limit if that. It pays off cause we have cheap insurance, and he has a calm wife beside him who's not afraid for her and her childrens lives.

I have a speeding problem on highways, the farther we have to go the faster I drive. I once drove from Toronto to Montreal in a bit over five hours, if the police stopped me that day I'd likely have lost my license.

In the city I drive at the limit in residential and school zones and go about 10-20km/h over on major streets.

I go the same speed as the rest of the traffic on the road, considering that some places around here have some really silly speed limits that usually about 10mph over the limit.

On motorways if traffic is moving cleanly in the fast lane about 80-90mph ( the same speed as everyone else) in the middle its about 70-80 and in the slow lane its 60, but i'm only in the slow lane if i need to get off the motorway soon.

Well, yes :)
For the life of me I couldn't think that anyone could get a kick out of 160km/h. I mean, that's almost regular speed here :)
And he has certainly never seen a big car come at you with 250+km/h. THAT is a kick, if suddenly you find yourself tailgated while doing 220km/h yourself :)

I'm fairly bad with speeding too. I did that thing where the first few months I had my lisence I thought I was invincible. Add to that 2 speeding tickets and 6 points on my lisence... I'm a bit more careful, but I'm still pretty stupid about it.

Katie's general driving rules:
School Zone: Limit, 5mph over max
Residential: About 5-10mph over, less if there are people outside
Highways: Anywhere from 15-25mph over. I pretty much flow with traffic on this one. Route 78 is always a blast  (for my Jerseyans)

There's a road I drive once every week that has a 55-mph speed limit, but I'll often go about 80. I don't usually go faster than that, but occasionally I'll go up to 85. I've never been above 90.

On other roads, it depends how well I know them, but I suppose I usually go about 10 mph over the speed limit.

Too fast for my luck... no accidents but too many tickets.

Now I only speed on the 400 series highways, 20-30 over
on non 400 series highways i'll occasionally creep to 90 but i slow down when I notice. The cops here are brutal, otherwise I'd be doing 20 over...

When I drive through base I stick to the limit or below... the MPs WILL pull you over for 1k over...
May you live in interesting times.

I obey all speed limits posted. I have no idea why anyone would do otherwise, unless they either enjoy tickets or seeing more "speed kills" ads on TV.

NEVER EVER more than the speed limit (intentionally - I have on occasion during late night inter-city runs accidentally crept above it). Indeed, I usually drive 5-10km below the speed limit in city traffic due to the insanity of other drivers and me wanting to be able to stop/maneuvre in time.
