But no, Creative Assembly's Management had to "play it safe"...

The biggest problem is that the game engine/ai/formations was designed around ancient warfare, and it's kind of hard to simulate napoleonic squares, and "Standing up" to musketry fire with the engine.

Yeah, I played the first NTW mod (off MTW), and it just didn't really work. Cavalry would just charge straight into well-formed infantry, and unless the infantry were on skirmish they wouldn't run, even when they were caught in line.

Oh fucking hell! I desperately wanted something covering the Napoleonic Wars, but nooo, we had to go back to mediaeval times again. Bah, I hope this is next then.

That entire era of warfare bores me to tears with it's silly costumes, tactics, etc. M2TW was the absolute right thing to do.

That's just not what CA does. The level of detail and modelling required for that is well beyond the format of their games. It wouldn't be TW.

Personally, I'm happy to go back to the Medieval period. The fact that I missed MTW (played STW a bit, didn't like it, played RTW, loved it) may make me biased, though.

Not to mention Cold War: Total War is a bit of a contradiction isnt it? Need to rethink that title a bit...

The TW game engine works with battles that depend on tight formation. Modern warfare would look utterly ridiculous with the TW engine.

Napoleonic Wars (and other European conflicts before and after the period) are pretty much made for the engine. Hell, it even has an obvious expansion pack in the form of American Wars.

Now THAT I would play. I've been dying for a good ACW game.

Now that cannons and muskets are incorporated into the game, it seems like it would be almost trivial for modders to produce that even if CA doesn't.

ACW is probably a bit too modern, though it might work. The expansion pack would more likely be the War of Independance. Or Possibly the War of 1812.

I'm with Vympel. Give me my knights! I've been dying for medieval combat with the Rome engine since it came out, and CA has delievered. And the campaign mode just completely blows away the original MTW.

Nah, I'm not begruding them making MTW2. Hell, it's probably the best setting for the engine full stop. I wonder if we'll get Viking Invasion II as an expansion pack? :)

All the same, I truely do hope that CA sets their mind to a Napoleonic game eventually, especially after the disapointment of Imperial Glory and Cossacks 2.
