Really? So there isn't another, more modern UI, just 'off'? NOW I'm traumatised. :)

Still, what's with the minimap? That map looks pretty small (by the size of the dots, anyway), but on big maps the strategic mode is going to be preferred.

I would personally use the minimap to drag or change my view around the battlefield with single clicks while my second monitor gives me a clearer strategic view. I don't think the second strategic view would let you do that like the minimap does. For me, each would have their use. Otherwise I'd have to first zoom out, and then zoom back in somewhere else.

And there is another UI, and here's a pic of it from the German convention:

PS: That looks like the Cybran commander, or the Cybran support comm. Interesting.

Except for the 95% of people with one monitor, who'll just strat-click to move around the map like everyone in Homeworld. It's okay, we still love you two-monitor people. :)

And I will be glad to see the minimap die a terrible death. At least make it configurable: I'd rather a high-detail local map than the more traditional full-map 'shrunk to shit so you get only the most general idea of whats happening' style common to modern RTSes.

And man, Spellforce has rotted my brain. Now when I play Middle Earth 2 I expect to click on targets then trigger special attacks from little hero menus, instead of the traditional 'click your attack then find the target in the mess of badguys' system. Bloody niche games and their 'features'! They should go back to mindless cloning.

It withstood four nukes and it was still intact. Chris Taylor wasn't humouring us when he stated that those experimental weapons are "game enders". It also explains why nukes can be built and deployed in such abundant quantities.
Innocent Bystander wrote: As an aside, did anyone else notice that the name of that crazy gigantic robot is "Tech 3 Sacred Assault Bot"? The word Sacred aside; aren't there 4 tech levels (1-3 and 'experimental'), could that mean there is something *bigger* than this Galactic Colossus? That'd be just crazy...
It's possible that the fourth tier super-unit for the Aeon Illuminate is the Indepence Day City Destroyer esque "Tsar" saucer that Chris Taylor was alluding to in that recent interview.

The Krogoth from TA could stand four nukes.... maybe five.... depended on veterancy level. Wasn't quite a game-ender, but it still did kick much ass.

Units like the Krogoth in most games are rather useless compeditively, however. Sure, they're 'game enders', but if your opponent catches on and spends similar resources on units they can often fuck you right up. Krogoth is viable due to the severly powerful nature of defence in TA, but in many other games the high-end stuff is just a waste. It doesn't help that many of those games also include a 'silver bullet' unit or power, the use of which basically renders the investment in the superunit worthless.

Course, this is TA-2, and it probably won't have these problems. Just remember, all the screenshots with super-units AND regular units may not be plausible in a compeditive environment.

Fresh out of the box, it could definitely take five and still stand. At least, according to the data files.

Well, I only mentioned it because Chris Taylor said that such units in this case exist to prevent multiplayer matches from degrading into protracted confrontations.

And I was only impressed by its durability due to the fact that nukes are more plentiful (The Supreme Commander can be upgraded to launch tac-nukes for example) here than in TA. Three Monkeylords were wiped out by a single nuclear blast in the E3 presentation video.

More screenshots, including factories, transports, and the Mavor.

EDIT: Interesting note: the player somehow got the Colossus across the water and into the main continent.

Well... one of the more popular mods for TA made the Krogoth amphibious. Maybe the Colossus can walk underwater...?

Perhaps. There's also a screenshot on a different site that shows the Monkeylord and a pair of destroyers on a beach, facing away from the water. It may be that all superunits have the ability to cross the water somehow.

There's another video of a demonstration, this time done at Leipzig, with Chris Taylor actually speaking, that showed a better view of that Cybran aircraft carrier. It had like at least a couple dozen planes pouring out of it.

Point being, this is a hell of a sight better than the two-plane carriers back in TA. :P

It's a two part zip, you'll need both and decent compression software. Such as winrar.

Leipzig Convention Demonstration, Streaming

It's basically the same routine as the one I already posted, but way shorter and not as comprehensive.

Any chance of posting a link in a file format that actually plays video? Every player and codec I've tried just gives me a black screen and an audio feed.

White Haven: CCCP & MPC (inc. in CCCP) plays it nicely. (Or mplayer/vlc on other systems...)

(Forgot to look what codec video was, isn't .mp4 just container?)
