Illegal software showdown

Post by Tolya »

Im curious, how are the anti-piracy laws enforced in US? Do you all use legit versions of XP because you believe in paying people for their work, or is there an anti-piracy system working so fine that when you crack XP you have SWAT delivered to your door instantly?

And how are the illegal software cases handled by the US judicial system?

To be honest, a cracked version of Windows causes more problems than it is worth.

As for other areas, it's basically free reign. There are a few organizations (RIAA with regards to music, for example) that are trying to do a terror campaign and sue people using cracked things at random, but that is no impetus to stop. You are more likely to get hit by lightning than actually sued by them.

It's not really a terror campaign, it's a profit stream to them. The RIAA's lawyers and court costs are invariably enough less than the robbery^Wsettlement money.
