Would you let your child be taught by a transgendered person
Refer to topic for scenario. It comes from the recent hoopla about a transgendered high school teacher in New York. Specifics:
1. Elementary school
2. Middle school
3. High school
Is it acceptable for a transgendered person to be a teacher? Why or why not? Does the child's age matter (ie acceptable for an older kid but not someone 2nd grade or below, for example?)

Sure, what the fuck difference does it make so long as they are a qualified and competent teacher.

I would gladly take a competent transgender teacher over an incompetent one, and believe me, the system does not currently suffer from an excess of great teachers.

Is this a trick question? Why would it not be acceptable? Surely you'd have to be a complete bigot to say no.

Only if she has big boobs.
Honestly, what possible reason is there not to? She going to secretly transgenderise my (hypothetical) kids or something?

I don't care if the teacher is male, female, asexual, transgender, dwarvish, elvish, alien, nerdy, geeky, or any of a million other adjectives, so long as he teaches well and isn't a pedophile or abusive.
A Government founded upon justice, and recognizing the equal rights of all men; claiming higher authority for existence, or sanction for its laws, that nature, reason, and the regularly ascertained will of the people; steadily refusing to put its sword and purse in the service of any religious creed or family is a standing offense to most of the Governments of the world, and to some narrow and bigoted people among ourselves.

Once you understand that the phrase "family values" means "making sure that all of the undesirables can never forget how much you hate them", you will understand why millions of people in North America would vehemently oppose a transgender teacher, especially for young kids. The vague and meaningless concerns they express are merely a cover-up for their real motivation.Lord Woodlouse wrote:Only if she has big boobs.

Entrusting someone with young children is, to some extent, a moral seal of approval. It means that this person is fairly well-regarded by society. And that is simply unacceptable if this person is on the "undesirables" list, so you have to make up ridiculous fears of what this person might do to your kids without a shred of evidence or reason. The point is that the person must never be allowed to forget that he or she is scum. That's why the bigots rail against "normalizing" homosexuality and other deviations, or distributing textbooks to children in which people like that are portrayed as contributing members of society rather than disgusting bogeymen to be hated and feared.

I figured I'd ask for opinions here since I'm currently in a debate on another forum on this very same topic. Needless to say, a lot of people are against it: most of their objections revolve around answering the inevitable questions that will come from their children.Hillary wrote:Is this a trick question? Then they are/will make poor parents. Answering their childrens' questions honestly and accurately is one of the most important things a parent can do, so by trying to avoid questions on an issue that they personally don't like they are shirking their parental duty.Natorgator wrote:I figured I'd ask for opinions here since I'm currently in a debate on another forum on this very same topic. That's because they would be torn between telling the child to listen to his teacher and telling him that his teacher is a horrible abomination against humanity who deserves eternal damnation.Natorgator wrote:I figured I'd ask for opinions here since I'm currently in a debate on another forum on this very same topic. Seriously, for someone like me there's no problem. I just tell my kids what a transgender person is, or what a homosexual is, and that's the end of it (I've already done that for homosexuals; they haven't asked about transgenders yet). They don't even ask again because they received a completely matter-of-fact satisfactory answer the first time.
That's the problem with bigots; they can't give a matter-of-fact answer, and that all comes back to the "must make sure deviants are always condemned" mentality I mentioned earlier. They don't want to give an answer which isn't couched in all sorts of bigotry and arbitrarily judgmental bullshit, and they know the kid isn't yet old enough to comprehend the necessity for hating people who haven't hurt anybody. Worse yet, they might meet the teacher and he or she might seem to be a good person. So, in order to spare themselves the discomfort of confronting their own prejudices, they would rather just eliminate the person from their environment and bury their heads in the sand.
Of course, it's easier for me to make these kinds of arguments because these aren't just idle theories; I practice what I preach with my boys, and they're fine. They just shrug and move on, because the answer is so matter-of-fact.

A lot of parents are afraid of telling their kids these things, because they don't know how to be matter-of-fact about it. They've got so many hang-ups that they're terrified of discussing it, and cannot do so in a frank and factual manner. It's like a phobia.Archaic` wrote:So let me get this straight....their objections are basically coming from the fact that they don't want to give their kids a little more detail on the birds and the bees talk?

I wouldn't judge a transgendered teacher by any standard I wouldn't hold any other teacher to equally.
"The rest of the poem plays upon that pun. On the contrary, says Catullus, although my verses are soft (molliculi ac parum pudici in line 8, reversing the play on words), they can arouse even limp old men. Should Furius and Aurelius have any remaining doubts about Catullus' virility, he offers to fuck them anally and orally to prove otherwise." - Catullus 16, Wikipedia

Normal trannies are fine though.
Since transgendered people are gay no matter what in the eyes of the lord, and since they make me feel confused about my sexuality, I would prefer it if they didn't teach my kids, lest they contract gaymoism and potentially wicca.

Re: Would you let your child be taught by a transgendered pe
This works for just about anything I've found. I had to explain what 'virginity' was to a 7 year old who's sister had a far to close encounter with the support bar of her bike. Everyone else was busy so I got drafted (at the age of 16), I gave him a clear concise definition of what a hymen was, his response was 'yuck girl stuff'. Everything he asked to hear, nothing he wanted to know once he knew.Darth Wong wrote:Seriously, for someone like me there's no problem. In some ways, I think the greatest fear of these parents is that a homosexual or transgender teacher will turn out to be a wonderful teacher. Because that would give their kids positive impressions of sexual deviants, and make it much harder to teach the kids the proper Christian family values of hatred for that which is different.
