Runaways Comic gets a new writer--JOSS WHEDON!

Post by Majin Gojira »

I nearly choked on air when I read this!
Even though Whedon’s calendar is full for the next few years—with writing and directing a “Wonder Woman” feature film, finishing his 24-issue commitment to Astonishing , and the Buffy and Serenity comics at Dark Horse—when the writer heard Vaughan was exiting one of his favorite titles, he quickly took inventory to assure himself he was far too busy to pick up another monthly title.

The he called Marvel and told them he wanted to write the book anyway—handpicking artist Michael Ryan ( New Excalibur ) for the title.
HAZZAH!

I guess that means Runaways will become Bimonthly...

So that's

1 Movie Writting and Directing (Wonder Woman)
and 3 Comics (Astonishing X-Men, Buffy "Season 8" and now Runaways).

Man that's busy!

Still, that's just AWESOME NEWS for Runaways. It'll bring them into the limelight from Joss Whedon's name alone, and it's already one of the best comics being published by a major company.

Wow, that's...unexpected. I was sure Zeb Wells was going to get the book after writing the Young Avengers/Runaways crossover.

Still, Marvel has got to be loving what this will do for the book's sales.

Whedon had already said he liked the comic and the characters are Whedonesque.

I may be beaten/flamed/BDZ/tarred/knuckled slapped for saying this, but I'm not to fond of Whedons work. *ducks*
I think his TV stuff is pretty boring**double ducks**
and his movie stuff makes me snoozy***triple ducks***
His comic stuff is ok, but it's nothing I think as off the wall awsome. I reallly tried to like his stuff, given how folks rave about him, but I just cant get into it.
I also find the Runaways passingly interesting. Out of what I read of the books, I only found their CivilWar tie in interesting, the rest I forgot about. I think their back stories are interesting, but when I read one of their books i just get a "don't care" attitude.

I haven't read more than the first volume of Runaways, but Whedon's overall work is so on-off mixed that I'm not without some degree of concern.

'Not without some degree'? So, do you think a princess, and a guy like me...

Andyway, Whedon is hardly a midas touch so we'll have to wait and see.

Well, if it gets cancelled, he can always make a movie about it.

No money, not much time, no money, transferred schools, no money, no money...

Basically, I haven't set foot in a comic shop in awhile; I've been surviving off of TPBs for the time being, and most of my cashflow in that direction has just been to Richard Moore and building up my Gold Digger collection (I'm well and truly hooked on Moore's art style - check out "Boneyard" - and I've been a fan of Perry's characters since before I knew they were from a comic.)

The comics event I'm most excited about is the Wildstorm reboot:

Grant Morrison:
Wildcats
The Authority bi-monthly

Mike Carry:
Wetworks

Gail Simone:
Gen 13
Tranquility

Garth Ennis:
The Midnighter

Brian Azzarello:
Deathblow

Christos Gage:
Stormwatch

It's like an entire comicverse of pure sexy.

Heh heh, keeeeeeeeeled by Xenomorphs. :D

Not all of them are dead. Battalion, some chick, Winter, Union and some others survived. The Authority was originally a black-ops StormWatch team. Then we have Team Achilles, which was a special ops anti-superhuman team, written by a guy who claimed to have been a ranger, then made to eat his words.

Yes, but Worldstorm/Wildstorm reboot...is a complete reboot. Basically they are keeping old material but starting over with whatever the writers want to.
MM /CF/WG/BOTM/JL/Original Warsie/ACPATHNTDWATGODW FOREVER!!

Sometimes we can choose the path we follow. Sometimes our choices are made for us. And sometimes we have no choice at all

Saying and doing are chocolate and concrete
