Would you let your child be taught by a transgendered person
Moderator: Alyrium Denryle
I wouldn't mind at all.
I have a fellow teacher-bound pupil in my night class this semester who constantly claims that homosexuals cannot be a family (much less get married). I'll go ahead and assume he wouldn't allow his kids to be taught by one...
Although, I am sure he wouldn't mind a bigot teaching his kids

If homosexuals should not be allowed to marry because they're supposedly unsuitable for raising children, should smokers and alcoholics be allowed to marry? The scientific evidence against those two groups is overwhelming; far greater than any flimsy evidence against homosexuals being good parents.Cairber wrote:I wouldn't mind at all.

For that matter, welfare recipients are also correlated with an enormous number of poor outcomes as parents, so perhaps welfare recipients should not be allowed to marry. Maybe we should just bar all of the lower classes from marrying while we're at it.
PS. If you try this and some idiot accuses you of using a slippery-slope fallacy, point out that the exact same logic is being used: suspicion of sub-optimal parenting = not allowed to marry. It's an application of the same logic across the board, rather than a sequence of events.

Wouldn't bother me. I had a flamboyantly gay teacher in High School. Didn't bother me in the slightest. My only complaint against him was he was more pre-occupied with if you had your homework highlighted and formatted correctly than if you actually had the right answers.

It might actually be better for a younger child to be taught by a transgendered teacher, if they were to be taught by one at any point in their academic lives. After all, everybody knows that most asshole highschoolers will try to undermine or even openly disrespect a transgendered teacher, thus ruining the classroom atmosphere. By that time, they've been indoctrinated with the idea that it's wrong or bad to be anything other than what they are comfortable with.

I just asked my highly Catholic roommate what he thought of this idea, he said that transgendered people shouldn't be allowed to teach children because, "they are trying to be something that they are not, and that is the opposite of what we want kids to learn." The sad thing is, most of the people at my school, (many Catholics,) would agree. Personally, I don't see a problem with it.

People like that don't actually have a coherent ethical belief system. They just go with gut instinct and then make up some kind of half-assed pseudo-reasoning for it after the fact. As if there's a commandment in the Bible which says "don't try to be something you're not", especially when that same Bible tells us to deny every feature of our human nature relating to sexual desire and the hoarding instinct.Aasharu wrote:I just asked my highly Catholic roommate what he thought of this idea, he said that transgendered people shouldn't be allowed to teach children because, "they are trying to be something that they are not, and that is the opposite of what we want kids to learn." On that kind of point - I was raised in a neighbourhood with several gay couples and other gay neighbours. These people babysat me, and when my father pissed off were almost de-facto parents. They helped me with job interview preparation and some school work. I talked to them every day and I never once saw them as anything other than normal. It was a personal insult to ME whenever they would get beaten or otherwise abused, because it just pointed out how fucking ignorant other people were.wolveraptor wrote:It might actually be better for a younger child to be taught by a transgendered teacher, if they were to be taught by one at any point in their academic lives.
