Magic: the Gathering vs AD&D

Post by gravity »

All of the forces/power, past and present of M:tG, engage in a huge war against all of the forces of Advanced Dungeons and Dragons.
Who wins?
No gods or other (semi-)omnipotent beings are allowed, but everything else goes. Assume that many portals connect all M:tG worlds to all AD&D ones, so that all forces can travel back and forth easily.

Planeswalkers are pretty damn powerful. They could just move whatever they couldn't kill to another plane, then collapse the plain.

Give a Phyrexian Dreadnaught or Devouring Strossus (9/9, flying, trample) protection from all colors, then send them out to wreck havoc!

What exactly counts for the D&D side? Just the "standard" Greyhawk stuff or are we talking about Forgotten Realms and what-not as well?

Lets see

Magic has

Planeswalkers, Not just Elder Dragons but around 40-90 Elders not one every other thing

Does D&D Get Planescape? As its rather cheap to give them infinite amount of pit lords + Balrogs

But then the giant Mile Long Phyrixian battleships with Iowa sized weaponry that fly clears out most of the D&D Ground Forces

However, not impossible to turn upside down and suspend in the air while you figure a way out to kill it :D

Phyrexians or Urzas forces would win this. Not just because of their fleets, but their ground troops, extremely high density of magical/high tech gear, plus the generel uberness of their troops.

Planeswalker just cast a "Wraith of God" and kills all beings in the plane... or just a counterspell :D

And don't forget M:TG'ers, your defense against spells is very poor compared to D&D. Whereas you may have a few Blue spells to counter-act hostile magic, a competent wizard or sorcerer can counter-spell almost anything. And that's just arcane magic. Miracle, anyone?

Hahahahaha The great Phy whatever battleship meets the really scary Dragon. Hellfire Dragon. These guys are are the Generals in the blood War. Really fucking scary I've seen the stats, they make Ancient Red Wyrm's look like kiddies. (Monstrous Manual 2)

Plus as mentioned D+D has the planes thats an infinite amount of space. (Well actually many times infinite amount of space) filled with Infinite amount of possilbilties and Creatures. All we really need is a few spells cast around our Celestral forces and most of your troops are down. (Try beating someone with a +5 Dancing Vorpal Greatsword, who is also armed with a +5 Composite Longbow with the abilty to make any Arrow of slaying it wishes. Who also has the abilty to fly, and has had some mage or other cast Stoneskin on it.) Added to all that is unless you kill the Outsiders on their plane then you have to kill them all over again when you reach their plane, or in a Hundred years time whichever comes first!!!
From a review of the two Towers.... 'As for Gimli being comic relief, what if your comic relief had a huge axe and fells dozens of Orcs? That's a pretty cool comic relief. '

And exactly how many Hellfire dragons are there ?

Cause there are a hell of a lot of Phyrexian ships, all armed with nasty Ray-Cannons, Black Mana bombards etc, etc

Phyrexia alone is a lethal opponent for D&D, the 9 spheres of Phyrexia are warded from planeswalkers by Yawghmoths power, giving them a vast unreachable base to strike from.

Even if you assume that the Elvish/human/etc plagues wont affect their D+D brethren, it wont take long for the Vat-masters to produce tailored plagues.

which they then bombard their target worlds with.

Starting with say, the Forgotten Realms or Grey Hawk.

covert entrances by phyrexian operatives gathering info, followed by mass invasions, plague bomb bombardments, Stone Chargers, mana bombs, all the Toys Yawgmoth has.

Then the portals open, Phyrexian fleets portal in, nations are overun, evil powers make deals with Yawgmoth, perma-portals are established, raw material collected, massive deployment of millions upon millions of Superior phyrexian troops, with technological enhancements, natural abilitys and backed up by Witch Engines, Phyrexian Artifact creatures, enslaved armies with augmentic spines, undead, etc etc.

Ok things aviable to MtG

Wrath of God, Destroys your avarage hord of minons no matter how big

Anninlation, Destroys PLANES, Screw your mage the entire plane is removed from existance(Like to see you counter THAT)

Urza's Titian Engines are decent Fighters

Urza's Rage can't be countered or stoped

More +20 Weapons than you could shake a stick at

The Abyss wins it for D&D however as it unlike the Planes are is truely infinte
