Hacking a Diebold voting machine.

Post by Yogi »

Evidently, if you insert a memory card and reboot, the machine will boot from the memory card.
I am capable of rearranging the fundamental building blocks of the universe in under six seconds. I shelve physics texts under "Fiction" in my personal library! I am grasping the reigns of the universe's carriage, and every morning get up and shout "Giddy up, boy!" You may never grasp the complexities of what I do, but at least have the courtesy to feign something other than slack-jawed oblivion in my presence. I, sir, am a wizard, and I break more natural laws before breakfast than of which you are even aware!

Read this (and the linked paper) for some harder details.

Very interesting. Scary, but interesting.

I thought the points about needing to change actual election procedures was also well taken.

Bah, I'm glad I live in an area that does it the old fashioned way: markers with special inks that allows the machine to count only the votes marked.
I used to think that it was awful that life was so unfair. Then I thought, wouldn't it be much worse if life were fair, and all the terrible things that happen to us come because we actually deserve them? So, now I take great comfort in the general hostility and unfairness of the universe. ~Marcus Cole, Babylon 5

The problems of the world cannot possibly be solved by skeptics or cynics whose horizons are limited by the obvious realities. We need men who can dream of things that never were and ask "why not?" ~John F Kennedy Jr, 1963

California insisted on a paper trail as well, as the electronic cards.
