For those who bought the 2006 DVD's
Theres so many post very recently about "ooh should i buy them" "Whats cool about them".
Well this thread is for the ones like myself who bought the new Limited Edition DVD's.
Just curious why you bought them, for it being you were born after the movies like myself ('86) and then grew up with the '97 Special Edition. Or you just are a completionist and need everything Star Wars, no mater what version and how many copies of it you have. Kinda "Oooh i want the black smoke after Leia shoots other then the grey".
Ok i bought them because i never really saw the original originals. The mere fact that it says Star Wars..... and not Star Wars Episode IV A New Hope, gives me goosbumps.
That Cloud City is all kinda monochromatic with white walls and no sceanery.
That the Sarlacc is once again more ominous with just a whole and no beak.
Plus I got 20 bux back for the Trilogy when i traded the 3 movies to GameStop that i originally spent 45 in 2004 (i kept the Bonus disc and outer Vader box )

2006 LE.
We finally get both versions in one neat package. More importantly, we finally get the original version on DVD. I was seriously thinking about copying the VHS cassettes to DVD somehow when I heard that they were finally coming to DVD.
I'm one of those who prefers the Original Editions overall. They're the versions I grew up seeing for a decade, and the little changes the Lucas made in the SE/DVD editions grate, more often than not. Specifically Greedo shooting at Han, replacing the Shistavanen (Wolfman) in the Cantina, Artoo no longer not tasting good on Dagobah, the corny new performance of the Max Rebo band, the new Ewok victory song, and the Young Darth Vader ghost aka HC's cameo.
These were not improvements.

warning: gushers don't be offended... this is an opinion
The 2004 versions were hastilly slapped together, and haven't aged well.
The 2006 set is worth it for the OOT (or OUT or GOUT whatever you wish to call it).
Yes, the OOT/OUT/GOUT could be better than it is (not having anamorphic was cheap, stupid, and annoying, not to mention disrespectful... would it have killed them to slap on an alternate audio track to simulate the theatrical six channel 70mm soundtrack?).
However this is the best official home version of it thus far, so I say it's the best. And owning this set is, as far as I'm concerned, ethical sanction to create/download as many fan created edits as you want.
Sell your 2004/2005 copies and get this (and who cares what tweaked crap they release next year), while you can. Unless StarWars.com is lying (time will tell), this is the LAST time these will officially be released "on DVD" (wiggle room for BluRay/HD-DVD of course).
Unless you like collecting cheap cardboard boxes, there's no reason to keep those other DVD versions lying around instead of this.
At least Narnia fans can get a rebate of their double dip...

fun/fantasy movies existed before the overrated Star Wars came out. What made it seem 'less dark' was the sheer goofy aspect of it: two robots modeled on Laurel & Hardy, and a smartass outlaw with bigfoot co-pilot and their hotrod pizza-shaped ship, and they were sucked aboard a giant Disco Ball. -adw1
Someone asked me yesterday if Dracula met Saruman and there was a fight, who would win. I just looked at this man. What an idiotic thing to say. I mean really, it was half-witted. - Christopher Lee

Some quick questions, as I totally confused by the DVD editions out there.
2004
Release of OT Trilogy DVD Box Set. This was the first time the "2004 Edition" was released, correct? I have this.
2005
Release of OT Trilogy DVD Box Set (again...). Star Wars website claim that it is IDENTICAL to the 2004 release, minus the bonus disc, correct? Tell, me there is no "2005 Edition".
2006
Release of OT Trilogy AGAIN!!! Wait a minute, does it come in a Box Set or is it 3 individual DVDs? (I searched Amazon and couldn't find a box set for the 2006 release). It contains the original (pre-1997 SE) editions and the "2004 Edition" correct? Or don't tell me they have made further changes, i.e. "2006 Edition".
Question
Am I right to say that only 3 SW version exist?
1) Original Theatrical Release (Pre-1997 SE)
2) 1997 Special Edition
3) 2004 DVD Edition
If so, has the 1997 SE been released on DVD?
Sorry guys, I'm a bit of an obsessive-compulsive tracker of all DVD changes Lucas has made to date... So can anyone help me with this?

Each pack has the 2004 edition of the movie, and then a "bonus disc" with a non-anamorphic widescreen 1993 version, plus some Lego Star Wars II fluff.
No further changes. The 2004 edition is the exact same as you own.
The 1997 SE has not been released on DVD officially, but many bootlegs have been made (of varying quality) mostly from the official LaserDiscs.Question

VISUALLY you're right. However there are many more versions of the classic movies if you include all the audio changes over the years (there's at least six official mixes of the original Star Wars alone, although two of them were never available for consumer home purchase).
Hope that helped!Sorry guys, I'm a bit of an obsessive-compulsive tracker of all DVD changes Lucas has made to date... So can anyone help me with this?
2004 Edition = you've got it.
2004 - bonus disc = 2005 "Limited Edition" (ironically it's still being sold)
2004 - bonus disc + 1993 edition, split into 3 packs = 2006 "Limited Edition"
You know, I heard there were a few places that were offering a "boxed set." However iirc, all they did was sell you a "collector's tin" that would hold three standard size amray cases, with your purchase of all three packs (Best Buy?).

The Original Release. I still call episodes Star Wars because that's the way I saw it.
If anyone is interested I have a forum where the members are using sci fi names, simply called A Journey To Cathay. Please check it out!
