Notre Dame ambushed quite possibly my second favorite team, 41-17. Quite a surprise. I expected a much closer game. Akron proved that battling it out with Penn State was no fluke, beating NC State. Troy State was THIS close to beating Bobby Bowden and FSU. God damn it, I hate those Seminoles and it would have been great if Troy won. Air Force stuck it to Tennessee on Rocky Top and nearly won, another game the team I wanted JUST missed.
UNA wins!
North Alabama beat Harding 41 to 14. Game was a blowout until the second half, when Harding scored their 14 points, and UNA scored 7. North Alabama remains the Number 3 team in the nation for NCAA Division II.
Go Lions!

Well, WVU just butt-banged Maryland. Christ. Maryland came back a bit to regain some dignity, but the game was won by the time Maryland registered a blip.
This weekend is huge for the SEC, with Florida-Tennessee and Auburn-LSU on the same day. Saturday will be as important to determining the SEC championship as the championship game itself.

I'm studying for the CPA exam. Have a nice summer, and if you're down just sit back and realize that Joe is off somewhere, doing much worse than you are.

When I said I thought ND was overrated I wasn't off, I suppose. God bless Michigan, knocking them from their mighty perch and restoring their good name in the football world. Now only if they shove OSU off their path to a championship, the season will be complete...

I have to say, Virginia Tech is the best team in the ACC until someone proves otherwise. I hope Georgia Tech will be doing the proving otherwise in two weeks.
Honestly, the ACC is totally crap this year. The only teams that looked good at all this year are GT, VT, BC, and Clemson. Some props to WF for being 3-0 right now. Everyone else is just awful. FSU hasn't done anything to be worthy of being highly ranked (maybe they will prove otherwise tonight) Miami is bad... UVA, UNC, NCSU are simply pathetic. If GT beats VT, there will be no excuse, no excuse at all for GT to not be playing in Jacksonville in December.

Holy muther fucking hell!! Damn, I was able to watch MSU take on Pitt, but had to be out the house during the UoM ND game, damnit. But god damn, way to go Michigan, in South Bend to boot. MSU better be ready next week, ND will be out for blood.Darth Garden Gnome wrote:When I said I thought ND was overrated I wasn't off, I suppose. Edit to add:
If UoM and OSU keep up their pace, will we get another #1 vs #2 battle this year?

LSU-Auburn: one tough, gut-busting defensive struggle through 60 minutes of play and Auburn winning 7-3, with LSU being stopped at the five yard line as the clock runs out.

Goddammit, both of the key SEC matchups went exactly the way I didn't want them to go. At least we shut out UAB.

Oh man, that game was glorious. Turnover after turnover was quickly converted into Michigan points, topping it off with the Golden Boy, Mr. This Year's Heisman Winner, Brady Quinn flubbing the ball mid-pass and LB Woodley swooping in for the fumble and chugging it down the sideline fifty yards for the score. Henne was brilliant chucking passes to Mario Manningham for the hat trick. Hart was unstoppable, cruising through holes at will. Oh man, I wish I had recorded that shit.Azazal wrote:Holy muther fucking hell!! Damn, I was able to watch MSU take on Pitt, but had to be out the house during the UoM ND game, damnit. Let's hope so. Michigan's got a ways to go before they move into the #2 slot. But if we could get a #1 vs #2 in Columbus this year, it would be tremendous. If UoM and OSU keep up their pace, will we get another #1 vs #2 battle this year?

The ACCs coaching casualties are going to start mounting soon.
Coker may be the first... it could happen as early as tomorrow.
Amato, Groh, Roof, and Bunting may be gone before this year is done.
We need to also start making a case for Bobby Bowden as well.
If GT doesn't win this thing this year.. Gailey should be added to the list.
This conference is absolutely terrible this year.

Don't cry too hard. I know Leak's a senior and has been with Meyer's offense for a year plus now, but Jesus was he showing his deficiencies. Threw three interceptions in the first half and just made an awful show. The thirst to see Tebow given a good run was palpable in Gainesville.Joe wrote:Goddammit, both of the key SEC matchups went exactly the way I didn't want them to go. At least we shut out UAB.

Addendum:
Notre Dame: Overrated, it looked like that everyone on the team was buying into their own hype too much.
Michigan: I don;t think they'll quite vault into #2 but Henne looked great, Burgess played extremely well, and they managed to get past that INT they had that ended up being 7 points for the Irish. The Big Ten looks GOOD this year, at least the top five teams or so.
Auburn: You need to score more points in your own building, Top Ten opponent or otherwise.
LSU: Jamarcus Russell, not going to carry the offense all by himself. DF's sign to LSU wankers in sports bars across America: "GEAUX HOME LOSERS" or "GEAUX FUCK YOURSELF!".
USC: Good win, but its not going to cut it against other top rated teams.
Miami: [nelson] HA HA! [/nelson]. How does it feel to go from champs to chumps in such a short time?
Oklahoma (a.k.a Adrian Peterson): If College football has proven one thing in the last few years it's that you cannot ride one player to a good season without one of two things: A) A good defense , or B)A great defense.
Oregon: *Lucky Ducks, we're having so much fun, Lucky Ducks...*

At this point I'm increasingly convinced that UM's offense will work in the SEC. It won't be a failure, it won't leave the rest of the conference behind in the dust, but it will work. Still, Auburn, LSU, and UGA all probably have better defenses than Tennessee does, so those teams will be quite a test. Of course the real team with the spread is WVU; UM's offense is a joke compared to theirs, and Florida doesn't have Slaton or White.Illuminatus Primus wrote:Don't cry too hard. But my God Tennessee fucked that game up. I'm absolutely disgusted with Ainge and that fucking "don't sack me!" pass he throws when he's about to get hit; the UGA defense is going to have a field day with him. And Florida put Tebow in over and over again for that QB sneak and it worked over and over again, why the fuck didn't Fulmer figure it out? Can't run the ball worth a lick, either.

Congratulations to Michigan on an impressive win.
I still think Notre Dame is about two years away from being a legit national title contender. Hopefully they can solidify their defense and Jimmy Clausen will live up to the hype. Then a #2 ranking will be more reasonable and not illicit the "overrated" label that proved to be painfully accurate.
Man, I'd love to see a Auburn v. Ohio St. championship game.

Try talking up Jimmy Clausen and you'll be greeted with guffaws from just about everyone in the SEC - Georgia fans in particular - and scowls from Tennessee fans. We are all quite familiar with the Clausen legacy of mediocrity and I remain convinced that Jimmy will follow up on it (and go bald in the process), regardless of the hype.I still think Notre Dame is about two years away from being a legit national title contender. I actually hope Butch gets the job. We know the man can recruit insane talent. Get him an offensive coordinator not named Larry Coker (who I feel is responsible for much of the gameday woes during Butch's tenure) and we may see a revived Miami program in less than three years.
In any case, I'm on pins and needles anticipating the announcement that Coker's been axed.

Tenn may've been playing like they were retarded, but truth be told that block to the back penalty in the first half which nullified a UF touchdown was total horseshit of the highest order. Even my Nole friend who saw it couldn't deny it was in the inside of the shoulder. Wasn't onesided though; bad reffing all around. And that's no comfort if you end up with a loss. We need to tighten it up if we're going to show a stronger season this year.Joe wrote:At this point I'm increasingly convinced that UM's offense will work in the SEC. IT may only be Wednesday but there's a lot to talk about heading into the coming weekend:
-USC is mad at ABC because apparently BRent Musberger gave away one of QB John David Booty's signals to his WRs on the air. Something that USC claims was "privileged information."
-Florida DT Marcus Thomas, Floridas most touted defensive player, suspended for 5 games after failing a drug test. The Gators play KEntucky this week before a four game stretch against Alabama, LSU, Auburn, and Georgia.
-The replay official for the Oklahoma/Oregon game has requested and was given a one year leave of absence. The official has had his life and family threatened. Meanwhile, Oklahoma's president has said that they may not play their scheduled game in Washington next year in protest against Pac-10 officiating despite signing a home and home contract with UW, Washington has already fulfilled their half of the bargain.
-Do any of the games this weekend look entertaining. About the only questions I have are how well the Irish will bounce back against Michigan State on the road (wonder how many Wolverine fans will make the trip just to taunt the Irish fans), and how close the ASU/CAL game will be since it is the only game between ranked opponents this week.
