HELLO? The DS followed the Falcon to the Yavin system within HOURS if not less and was the only resource in position to follow the tracking signal. Your evidence that anybody else could have been there SOONER is?
And what conceivable advantage would a huge conventional force have had over the Death Star?

Vader was an idiot and insisted that they wait until the Executor was finished.
When the Death Star blew up, did every Imperial alarm from one side of the galaxy to other wail within hours of it's destruction?
Nope, they kept it hush-hush and even explained the sector-wide blockade as an "internal dispute within TaggeCo".
Besides, were it not for the weakness located in the DS's design, the space station would have served just as well as a full fleet, and probably got there just as quickly.
Given the scale of the DSes and the destructive power of the Sun Crusher and the Galaxy Gun I'm not sure Executor qualifies as a superweapon.

But as soon as the Death Star was destroyed, why was the entire Yavin system not flooded with 900+ ISDs turning everything into glass within five hours? Why was the Imperial response so sluggish? It could be that through Tarkin's typical pomposity the Death Star was maintaining complete radio silence and news about the destruction of the battle station only got out until Vader's TIE got to nearest Imperial ship or outpost days later.

While the Executor is not a superweapon per se, it does sound very silly that Vader held back the Imperial fleet from nuking the Yavin system for weeks/months just so he could wheel out his new toy. I think the Empire's obsession with overblown superweapons and superbattleships was really it's downfall.

I have read somewhere that there was a rather large system-wide siege of the system, suggesting that the Rebels might have had some kind of conventional defenses in place there. Not enough to even slow down the Death Star, but enough to hold more standard warships at bay, perhaps.

If you chase it down I would be grateful if you posted it.
