Luminiferia's offer is intriguing. For one thing Baron von Lugenbrau is actually smiling at the thought of it. He usually doesn't do that unless he's holding an explosive device of some sort. Or some luckless lab assistant is about to die, thought that tends to be the same thing.

The Batavian Conglomerate is always interested in ties that benefit both parties and humanity. It is an age of discovery and change and should be weathered with reliable friends than merely alone.

To the Islamic Republic of Oman

To further deepen the connection of trade between our nations, the Batavian Conglomerate is interested into establishing permanent representation in the Islamic Republic of Oman, and would invite the Islamic Republic of Oman to do so, as well.

To the Batavian Conglomerate

The Batavian Conglomerate, like any other state, is free to establish a trading factor at Muscat. However, Oman is loath to commit to an exchange of embassies with the Conglomerate at this date. Because you are a government of Christian Dutchmen which rules over islands peopled by Muslims unto the ninety-ninth person, and because we do not know of how you have undertaken to treat our brethren under your rule, we can have no confidence in your government.

If you desire to win our confidence, we will send imams to your nation who will make a survey of the condition of the Muslims on your islands and report to us their findings, and only if these reports satisfy us as to your sincerity will we consent to an exchange of embassies.

The Batavian Conglomerate has adopted a policy of religious freedom. Our Muslim populace is treated no worse or better than any other part of the populace. Indeed, the former Muslim sultanates and kingdoms were vital in the foundation of the Conglomerate and share seats on the Conglomerate Raad van Bestuur. Former muslim Directeur Agung can attest that the Conglomerate does not discriminate against race or religion. We are interested in trade and prosperity, not race or religion.
But if you wish, you can send imans if it makes you feel better. Though we must advise against any proselytisation.

Richard the First, King of the Two Islands, Steward of Timor-

"In the unfortunate events which have so recently harmed our two great nations, it has become necessary for certain colonies and possessions to remain in states of disrepair and malcontent. Native uprisings have gone unpunished, and the flower of European civilization has wilted in so many lands."

Her Royal Majesty understands your own efforts to reverse this bloody tide, and applaudes them. She also is pleased to announce that the great line of the Bragancas is revitalized and empowered, having regained it's former glories and won great victories. The Portuguese government in Goa is once more capable of establishing- and defending, to the last pint of blood- good Christian possessions which are the right of Her Majesty."

Therefor, this government thanks you kindly for your stewardship in Timor- a fine sign of your long-standing friendship with Portugal and the Royal State of India- and is pleased to inform you that said stewardship is no longer necessary. Her majesty is fully prepared to once again exercise her full rights on that province of Her queendom."

Of course, as thanks for your kind service, She offers the usage of Portuguese coaling stations at seventy-five percent discount, with free coaling on Timor, as well as a two-year fifty percent discount on tariffs in Portuguese ports."

Her Majesty presents the following timetable for the arrival of a governor and Royal troops for the raising of the Standard of Braganca on the Eastern segment of the island, and hopes that no problems arise in the orderly exchange of power."

I eagerly await your reply."

From the desk of Joaquim Augusto Mouzinho de Albuquerque, by the Grace of God Prime Minister to Her Majesty Maria III Ana Wadiyar de Braganca, Queen of Portugal, Mysore, and Ceilao, sovereign ruler of Macao and Timor."

To Prime Minister Joaquim Augusto Mouzinho de Albuquerque:

It is with the deepest regrets that I inform you that the Island of Timor is the sovereign territory of a member of the Alliance of United Kingdoms, and whatever rights to that island your Queen may have held in the past no longer apply. The Kingdoms of both East and West Timor are sovereign nations in the Alliance of United Kingdoms, and as such the Alliance shall defend their freedom, as you have so aptly put it, "to the last pint of blood."

As you mentioned, the Alliance has a long history of friendship with Portugal and the Royal State of India. We desire nothing more than to continue that friendship with your monarch and her kingdom. We invite you to trade with us, and are prepared to acknowledge your previous rule on Timor with favorable trade agreement.

However, under no circumstances shall we allow the sovereignty of the Kingdoms of Timor, or their continued membership in the Alliance, to be threatened.

OOC: the general idea I have, though not necessarily the idea to be adopted, is that of a trade pool, where each signatory puts up the materials they don't need, and get assigned the ones they do. Resources in contention would be distributed in either a first-comes first served arrangement, or a random way. Again, merely a suggestion for what to do.

The Alliance of United Kingdoms seeks above all else peacful cooperation with all nations. In fact it is this desire for cooperation that brought the Alliance's great kingdoms together. We also have great interest in forming trading and economic relations with our neighbors. As such we wholeheartedly support your proposed economic trade pact. The Alliance's Minister for Trade, the Right Honorable Alistair Straw, MP, will be dispatched to your capital of Palmerston to negotiate such a pact.

Captain Richard Blair-

"In bloody years past, the fields of Europe have run red with the blood of many men. There can be no doubt of the root caue of this- the sad and constant decay of the royalty of Europe. The time when the grand family of European monarchs could trust one another to behave like gentlemen passed, and with it passed civility and peace. The rise of a thousand common pretenders with no real claim to royal blood or divine right only exacerbated the situation."

It seems that even after that horrible reminder, which is acted out even now as the dispatch-boats and refugees attest, the lesson has not been learned."

There is more to nobility than a title. There is more to nobility than the obedience of followers. There is more to nobility than a crown, especially when it rests upon the brow of a jumped-up sea captain with no respect for the grand order of life as dictated by both Man and God."

Her Majesty can only assume that the virtues of a true monarch are absent from your heart. This being the case, we can not legitimatize either your so-called claims on sovereign land under the purview of her Majesty by the Grace of God or your very crown. There will not be friendship between the so-called Allied Kingdoms and the Estado Real, and your ships may find other ports in which to coal and unload their goods, until such time as you see fit to re-negotiate."

From the Desk of Franklin Chase, Seceretary of State
To: The Grand Duke Rufus Cavendish

The People's Republic of India is interested in your offer; specifically, we would like to trade our excess coal supplies for any food you can spare. Our agricultural production is not what it could be, and we need outside support if our people are to live comfortably. I hope this deal is acceptable.

If you would consent to it, we would also be willing to trade opium (which, while I know you frown upon, could be very profitable for your country) or spices for the various rare metals you have on your island, as the researchers at Calcutta University would be interested in studying them.

RE: The previous communication

I regret to inform you that we must take our spices off the barganing table, for we have just concluded a deal with Tsar Nicholas the Second's government. Aditionally, the other deals spelled out in my letter may also be taken by other parties.

************************************************

From the Desk of Franklin Chase, Secretary of State
To: All interested parties

The People's Republic of India is interested in building bonds with other nations in this region in order to build stability and peace. In this spirit, we are willing to exchange embassies with any interested party, which will allow better communication and prevent any potential hostilities.

The People's Republic also feels that trade is another way to set up diplomatic channels, and thus is offering up its excess cotton supplies for either iron or sulfur, as these are needed to both expand our economy and to defend our nation. If you would prefer, we would instead be willing to trade either opium or spices. However, other diplomatic deals (OOC: see above) may make one of these resources unavailable, so I urge you to inquire quickly if interested.

From the Desk of Franklin Chase, Seceretary of State
To: All interested parties

Our spices are now promised to Tsar Nicholas the Second's government, and regrettably I must take this offer off the table. However, we are still willing to trade cotton or opium for sulfur, but in fairness I must tell you that the opium is also liable to be promised to another party.

Excellent. As soon as an ambassador can be selected by President Greene and approved by Parliament, we will send one to set up an embassy in a suitable part of your capital.

You trade deal is accepted. If his majesty is willing, we would also trade our surplus opium crop for the rare metals found within your borders, or our coal reserves for any foodstuffs the Tsar could send. These deals are offered to other parties (OOC: Vanas), so it may not stay on the table indefinitely.

To His Highness, Archduke Franz Martin von Habsburg:

The Alliance of United Kingdoms believes that at present the distance between our respective islands poses a great risk to Alliance shipping. Any trade agreement would likewise require the asurance of Habsburg protection for Alliance shipping across much of the vast Indian Ocean.

If such asurances could be made, the Alliance could offer large quantites of the finest foods and spices for trade. We are loathe to trade our supplies of rare metals away, but could be persuaded to trade them under the proper terms. We are interested in aquiring a source of sulfur or of cotton. Our navy is also quite interested in purchasing protected cruisers, along the lines of your 6,000 tonne Battle-Class, if suitable terms could be negotiated.

We await your response.

Our surplus of cotton and sulfur is already being traded, but may be traded as soon as it is available again.
