So if I were to buy Lego Star Wars II...

Post by Golan III »

...which platform?

I have a PC and an original Xbox (no 360). Yeah it'd be top-of-the-line, maxed out on my PC, however you don't exactly crowd around the laptop with the family (and this'd be a family-type game, right?). I have multiple controllers for the xbox...but would it suck absolute balls on the xbox? The first game looked fine on it, so how complex can this new one be?

No I have not downloaded the demo, perhaps I should.

thoughts?

I have the game for PS2 and I have no complaints whatsoever that deal with it being a console game (in fact, no complaints at all besides "why the hell can't the computer allies do anything besides get in your way?"). Since it's a LEGO game, too, you don't need high resolution at all, and the multiplayer adds a lot to the game. Unless there are any X-Box related issues of which I'm unaware, I'd say go for that version, not the PC one.

Indeed. It's expected to run beautifully on the Cube, after all, so unless the team porting onto the Xbox sucks major ass, you should have no problems whatsoever.

Apparently the 360 version is pretty damn good.

I have the 360 version and it is very shiny.

Don't play this game if you want peace in your family. My brother and I kept killing each other, especially on Dagobah. He played as R2 and dragged me into the swamp to steal all my money, since R2 is the only one who can survive in swamps.

I would definitely recommend the Xbox version for this one. You don't lose anything important by moving to the console, and the multiplayer adds a lot of fun.

Except multiplayer is on all the versions, and PC version let's you use all the LEGO:SW characters. Droidekas and Greivous RULE jawas.

Is that with or without saves from the original? With a save from the original game, you can do that with the console versions, too.

And how easy is it to have multiple people playing the game from the same computer? It sounds as if Golan wants to play this with people around his house, which tends to be easier with console games than PC games, in my experience.

Really? That's neat - I wasn't sure how they'd handle it on consoles.

PC doesn't have proper internet multi, just hotseat like consoles. I own a USB-to-2xPS2 adapter, so I use my PS2 controllers. Using the keyboard would be deeply crap, I agree. :)

EDIT - the game is actually quite lame to play single player. The rest of the team has useless weapons, and there are several places where everyone runs off without letting your character follow.

Did LEGO:SW have team guys that could kill people, or is that my imagination? Watching Lando shoot the same stormie half a dozen times is just fucking irritating.

I remember having useful computer allies in the last game, too, and my roommate who's currently playing that game says that she remembers her allies actually killing things.

That's a really stupid change to make between the games. If they wanted to make it harder, have more enemies when you have allies around; don't turn the allies into walking obstacles.

Dammit it isn't just me! I mean, in the first game they were clueless, but at least their guns killed people. It makes the stupid level designs (like 'fight infinite spawning stormies while trying to use a hat, while your team bodyblocks your shots and doesn't kill any) quite frustrating, but it's very rewarding multi. Except the 'stuck as R2' levels.

This may seem like Necro but I have related questions to ask.

Does anyone have the DS version, and if so, does the DS version have the ability to used saved game data from previous verisons in any form?

No. The DS version doesn't allow you to do that. Even though the DS has the GBA slot, you'd figure they'd do something with it, but the developers suck donkey balls and didn't do anything like it.

Do not get the DS version if you have any other way of playing Lego Star Wars. It's a completely different game: it's buggy (Hey where did my Luke Skywalker go, why am I invisible to myself but still getting caned by Stormies), it suffers from serious slowdowns at times, and it's cut down by something like one story per episode.

In its own right as a DS game, it'd get a 5.5, 6 maybe out of 10 for me. I got it and Megaman ZX at roughly the same time, and after I've finished the story mode I've given up on it and been playing ZX instead. I've yet to see how good the multiplayer is though, I'm hopeful that it won't turn out to be a complete waste of my money.
I know there is a method, but all I see is the madness.

I just got this, runs ~60-100 fps on my x1400-equiped laptop, but the v-synch tearing is terrible, is this just me?
I do know how to spell
AniThyng is merely the name I gave to what became my favourite Baldur's Gate II mage character :P

It was purchased for my little brother (age 10) who enjoyed the first Lego Star Wars on the DS and he is enjoying it, but I had doubts as to whether or not I could enjoy it the same way, now that question is answered. Thanks.
