The user known as "vivftp" is a worthless retard who gets himself into technical debates which require knowledge and discourse far above his understanding and then neither concedes nor has the honesty to back down, as demonstrated in these threads:

I'm not feeling very merciful. He has a track record of passive-aggressive bullshit, wall of ignorance, broken record debating and he has directly stated he has no interest in learning anything or improving himself, which means that his behavior in future threads is going to be exactly the same as it is in the examples.

So if the admins are tired of the Ban Hammer, they are free to use any of these:

His entire "I want to talk about something I know nothing about" attitude irritates me. From his early "I want to be in ST vs SW debates, but I don't care enough to learn about SW" to "I want to talk about ST scientific phenomenon, but I don't want to learn about science." If he doesn't have an interest in something, he takes the intellectually lazy approach: he wants others to tell him the answer so he can use that instead of putting any effort forward.

He doesn't seem to realize that one can't have a meaningful conversation about something without knowing anything about the subject. He also doesn't seem to realize that it's irritating for everyone in the thread (despite them saying so).

I was going to vote for a VI, but then I read this which makes me lean toward a ban. Do you have a direct quote for this? I'm curious as to the context, especially for the 'improving himself' portion.

Well if you want to make your statement cover my entire posting past then sure - I wish you had simply said what you were talking about since it's only natural for me to think you're referring to that one section of my post.

And I'm more than happy to read a book - if I have a genuine interest in learning the topic. In these cases my only interest in this topic is in how it relates to these instances. For me that doesn't then warrant me launching into lengthy research to learn all about something which I really have no interest in.

I'm a bit torn between VI and a ban. The other options are nonstarters: he deserves to be punished, he's not special enough for a custom title, I don't think he's actually trolling (which is simultaneously frightening and pitiable), and even if he and Scoot are likely allies on the SWvST issue, I've never heard him defending RSA specifically or arguing his points. So it really comes down to whether or not he deserves to stay. I'm undecided for now.

I'm for banning because I think he's a RSA mini-me (quotes represents paraphrasing of the top thread):
1) Will adopt a position no matter how ridiculous, so long as it doesn't give ground (and sorry to focus on myself, but I can't think of a better example than "just because the judge put a gun to his head and said 'plead guity or die' doesn't mean he didn't give him a fair trial").
2) Will adopt obvious double-standards and refuse to recognize that fact (Nitram's conversation, where he dismissed Picard's comment on Q, but embraced Janeway's view on Q, simply because the latter supported his position).
3) When he can't win, he surrounds himself with those who will agree with his position (not attacking SB.com, but clearly he went to a place where he could get some sympathy since he was getting none here) rather than admitting defeat or at least trying to come up with a rational defense.
4) Will dismiss arguments he doesn't agree with simply because he doesn't agree with them ("Q had a reason for lying, therefore it doesn't count as having lied").

In addition, he will apply the opposite of Occam's Razor, taking the evidence and adopting the most convenient theory for him despite being convoluted.

Most damning, as has already been mentioned, his admitted unwillingness to learn. It doesn't matter if one has every Star Trek fact committed to memory, without the ability to think scientifically and reason logically, it's useless (like Good Will Hunting said "there's nothing I can learn from you I can't find in some fucking book.")

And honestly, a title will do nothing to change his behavior. He knows he may potentially be banned, and has done nothing to show that he sees how he's been in the wrong, or to indicate that he will change, or even that he's even concerned. Just show him the door now and be done with it.

So I voted too soon. My vote can be considered changed from VI to a ban. I originally voted VI because I wanted to see how he'd react with it.

When facing a poll, however, the way people act says a lot. They can try to get their act together and have a chance at leniency, or they can get an attitude and ensure the poll goes the worst possible way for them.

I voted for Village Idiot, since he wasn't really trolling, though were he banned, it wouldn't bother me in the least.

EDIT: Well, that fuck. I didn't bother going back to that thread after my last post and vivftp sending me a PM basically asking him to please, please help him due to him thinking I was agreeing with him. I reread the thread to see how vivftp made his grandstanding end and the little shit tried to tie me into his argument. I'm more inclined to ban him now.
