Latest MGS4 video revelations

At the very end, someone who I assume to be Solid Snake (he's in the same outfit, but has a mask over his face, save for the eyepatch system he has in this game) hides from enemy soldiers by imitating a statute as part of his camo suit (standing next to two other, real statutes).

After the soldiers leave, the camera pans up and during the pan he has taken off his mask and is smoking a cigarette. A bird poops on him. The poop lands on his face ... and his face is that of a young Solid Snake, as we knew him from MGS/MGS2 and Big Boss from MGS3 - not the moustached old codger.

Is this another one of Hideo's famous tricks and misdirections? Does Solid Snake get a reprieve from his ridiculously uncool, bullshit and generally lame as hell advanced aging, or is this another Naked Snake/ Big Boss clone, to replace a (dead?) Solid Snake?

That video is mostly gameplay footage. It's just using the cinematic camera mode at times. Watch it, you'll see what I mean.

Since we've only seen the modded M4-type, I wonder if that Kalashnikov there is modular as well and it's only bearing the GP-30, or whether they're locked?

P.S. Vympel, do you know if that Kalashnikov is real or (as it looks to my eye) a fixed-stock carbine amalgamation of the AK-10x's? (I thought I saw characteristics from the various makes, although I'm now leaning towards the AK-107/108.)

I suppose it's possible they're still cranking out the Big Boss clones. I just don't know who "they" would be in this case (the Patriots?). From what I gather, MGS4 is a mercenary crossfire in some Middle Eastern shithole failed state.

I won't even pretend to fully comprehend the end of MGS2, but I figured the Patriots were done with the Les Enfants Terribles Project. Still, a fresh clone of the old man seems slightly more likely than magical battlefield age-reversal therapy for Solid Snake.

Unless they've equipped the AKs with modular rails like the M4, I suspect that at most you could equip it with a variety of sights on its Russian-type sight rail, a GP-30. or a bayonet. Russian Spetsnaz now have M4-type modular rails on their modern AKs, so who knows?

I don't think Kojima has quite gotten over the fan's hatred of Raiden.. he's perfectly capable of puulling this..

Raiden is popular in Japan. Americans just haven't warmed up to the notion that men can be good-looking too. Kojima has come to terms with this though; as evidenced by the walking joke that is MGS3's Raikov.

A lot of that whininess was blamed on the English VA, who the creators were never satisfied with. Raiden wasn't intended to replace Snake, that can't be done. He was intended to be the new Gray Fox, who was enormously popular and everyone wanted to play.

Out of interest, is there any way I can hear the original VA for Raiden? I've had my fill of reedy whiteboy VA, but I'd be interested to hear the difference.

Yes there's Raikov.
Then there's how Big Boss is called Jack like Raiden, and in the intro of MGS3 Big Boss' face is revealed to be.. Raiden! Until he peels off the mask.
I could almost hear Hideo Kojima snickering behind me when I saw that.

There's Youtube, of course. Raiden has a line or two in the first MGS4 trailer released, and it's the same guy.

MGS2's problem was it's lame ass plot and miniscule gameplay to movie ratio, not the main character.

But let's not get into that. MGS4 theories please!

Doubt that games will (usually) differentiate between the types, though.

It looks like either an AK-102 or AK-105 to me, on first glace.

Upon finding Modern Firearms' link to them, I agree that they have been the closest in appearance.

Heh, I actually liked fighting alongside Snake much better than I did being Snake. Besides, Snake hates knives. How else but playing another character would players get a chance at using that sweet, sweet sword?

Oh, and the Raiden in MGS4 looks totally wicked.

Anyway, MGS4 theories. Maybe... maybe it's Liquid! Snake's brother ain't dead yet, at least not completely. He totally needs to make a comeback that does not involve taking over Ocelot's body whenever Solid is near.

Speaking of Ocelot, I suspect he isn't dead yet. That old codger probably has at least 90 years of life in him, hell if he doesn't get shot he might make it to 120. And he'd be pushing 80 right about now.

BTW - What is it with everyone listing Ocelot's...

Liquid was blonde. This guy isn't - he's the spitting image of Big Boss/ Solid Snake.

Liquid isn't naturally blonde, his hair was bleached by the middle-eastern sun. If he is somehow using a new body it doesn't have to look exactly like his old self.
