Happy Birthday to the Emperor of Japan!
I believe it's his birthday today. He was looking rather healthy when I met him(well...he was waving to a crowd, and I was in the crowd...) so I'm sure the age isn't weighing on him at all.

Re: Happy Birthday to the Emperor of Japan!
His father should have been executed at the end of the second war.
Japan should pay reparations to all those families of those who were in Jap PoW camps, those jap buggers have managed to squirm their way out of paying that, and they eliminate all the torture and barbarity that they did from their textbooks.
Those fuckers should've been nuked more that twice.

The jap monarchy is and was only a figurehead, nothing more except for brief lapses in history. Tojo got what he deserved. Of course I'm usually full of bullshit.

Hmm, yes I agree Ted except more than two nukes is wasting my uranium and plutonium. But we needed Hirhito as MacArthur's puppet; made things go more smoothly.

I'm not a fan of letting people go for connivance and we would have done just fine without him. Totally removing all traces of the old ways of Japan may very well have resulted in a nation that could and would accept it's past in the future like Germany did.Captain Lennox wrote:Hmm, yes I agree Ted except more than two nukes is wasting my uranium and plutonium. I was expecting mass flamage there. I've been brain washed by my grandma a bit into thinking the japs are buggers. My grand father was in a jap PoW for 3.5 years, yet got squat from the jp gov, but got 10,000pounds sterling from the British government. He was in the Mercantile Marine.

That's the funniest thing I've heard all day. The truth is that the emperor of Japan has held practically zero power since shortly after the Meiji restoration was finished in the early 1900s.Sea Skimmer wrote:In this case yes you are. Well, theoretically, the Emperor had supreme power, but as he supported his PM during the war, he shoulda been executed.Andrew J. wrote:That's the funniest thing I've heard all day. Ah, yes well the fear was we'd have nother facist state on our hands right at the end of World War II. So we used Hirohito too spread American Smitism.Sea Skimmer wrote:I'm not a fan of letting people go for connivance and we would have done just fine without him. And his opposing the PM would have done what, exactly?Well, theoretically, the Emperor had supreme power, but as he supported his PM during the war, he shoulda been executed.
The Japanese are fine people. Whilst living in Japan I have observed only the heights standards of politeness, generosity, and kindness. Yes, their culture has some rough edges. Yes, they need to accept what has happened in the past. But we need to accept that it is the past.
I bet that if I posted something like 'Happy Birthday to Queen Elizabeth' I would have gotten something far differant in response.

I might accept that if they weren't actively attempting to conceal they're past from there youth and weren't lying about their navy again.HemlockGrey wrote:And his opposing the PM would have done what, exactly?Well, theoretically, the Emperor had supreme power, but as he supported his PM during the war, he shoulda been executed.

QE's father wasn't a war criminal, and QE has done nothing criminal at all. The British Royal Family is one of the oldest in the world, and has been powerless sinve the late-18th-early-19th centuries.HemlockGrey wrote:I bet that if I posted something like 'Happy Birthday to Queen Elizabeth' I would have gotten something far differant in response.

As well, it's unconstitutional for Japan to have a military, yet they have oneSea Skimmer wrote:I might accept that if they weren't actively attempting to conceal they're past from there youth and weren't lying about their navy again.

The Japanese Royal Family is older and it's been powerless for the vast majority of its existence.Ted wrote:QE's father wasn't a war criminal, and QE has done nothing criminal at all. As for the current emperor's father being a war criminal; even if it's true, don't you believe the whole "sins of the father should not be suffered for by the son" deal?[/i]
