"The Last Bastion" Part 1 Online!

Thanks!Bounty wrote:Number One needs to work on her posture
Small continuity error: the first volley blows away the deflector, but it's still undamaged in the distant shots. You might want to create a second vessel with low-powered turbolasers for the impact shots.
The revealing shot of the ISD was excellent.
I'm willing to leave a couple bloopers in for now; you can still see the black "ring around the collar" in a couple crew shots before I updated the costumes!
This was incredibly hard work. And its just part 1!!
Very nice.
A few points/bloopers:
-the tactical guy is wearing gold but he's at the helm station (typically a red shirt position in TNG-era...) Similarly the guy who's at the tactical station and talks about hailing frequencies and what not is wearing blue, when he should be wearing gold.
But that's just nitpicking!
-at the end, the Star Destroyer doesn't get a reveal. We just see the side of it. I'm not sure what would be more dramatic, a full on shot or continue the pan but show us that the ship is recognisably a ISD. The music gives it away but the visuals do not.
Those Imperials are so ill-tempered. The Federation only wanted to help!

That might be a leftover of BC's messed up crew positions. In the stock game, no-one was sitting in the right chair except the captain and first officer.the tactical guy is wearing gold but he's at the helm station (typically a red shirt position in TNG-era...) Similarly the guy who's at the tactical station and talks about hailing frequencies and what not is wearing blue, when he should be wearing gold.
I didn't even notice the colours, to be honest.
So it's a limitation of the game engine? Fair enough.Bounty wrote:That might be a leftover of BC's messed up crew positions. That's because I have an eye for useless details.I didn't even notice the colours, to be honest.
The revealing of the Star Destroyer wasn't. Please continue the shot long enough to let us know what it is without being such intense Star Wars buffs as to recognise a Star Destroyer just from its engine rumble (which was excellent) and the lateral trench.
If you're going to switch to a shot of the Imperial bridge after this, queuing the Imperial March as the ISD rolls onscreen would be nice.
The pacing, music, dialogue, and voice-acting was very good, and the Federation bridge fealt right to me.
Seems the Imperials only have their light turbolasers up and running. What a shame .

Minor nitpick: aren't the rank pips only on the right color, not the left?

That was a "Jaws" - like reveal. You're not supposed to show the whole monster right away!Feil wrote:The revealing of the Star Destroyer wasn't. Actually, there are better, "canon" Galaxy bridges available, which I'll be using later. But I wanted two slightly different bridges in the overall flick. The pacing, music, dialogue, and voice-acting was very good, and the Federation bridge fealt right to me.
Yeah, but that's the limitation of "The Movies" models. Most everything is repeated on the other side. The rank pips on the female officers aren't showing up properly either.Darth Servo wrote:Minor nitpick: aren't the rank pips only on the right color, not the left?

Elfdart's voice was perfect for the captain. I can't imagine the other voice actor and actress be the captain without cringing. Did you record the voices on site or did they send a recording?
I can't wait for part two!

I have almost reached the regrettable conclusion that the Negro's great stumbling block in his stride toward freedom is not the White Citizen's Counciler or the Ku Klux Klanner, but the white moderate, who is more devoted to "order" than to justice; who constantly says: "I agree with you in the goal you seek, but I cannot agree with your methods of direct action"; who paternalistically believes he can set the timetable for another man's freedom; who lives by a mythical concept of time and who constantly advises the Negro to wait for a "more convenient season."
Thanks! Some Trek fans are already having some negative feelings, but they should wait to see the whole thing.Mange wrote:Looks absolutely great, Wayne! What a rewarding end to the first part!
Elfdart and Katherine both sent me recordings. Those were great voice-overs.Soontir C'boath wrote:Elfdart's voice was perfect for the captain. I can't imagine the other voice actor and actress be the captain without cringing. Did you record the voices on site or did they send a recording?
I'm going to start writing future updates on my blog, so I won't clog up this forum.I can't wait for part two!
I'm pleasently suprised; to be frank, I'm not that big a fan of "The Movies" made films, but this one was quite well put together, and the action scene was quite well intergrated.
And I liked the reveal. As you say, you don't want to give away the whole thing at once.

Now that I was able to view it with sound...

The complete lack of stars in the background was somewhat odd but otherwise quite nice, Wayne.
And talk about the universe having a sense of humour- I've got Privateer Remake open in the background, and just when the ISD starts coming into view, a passing bounty hunter comments 'Welcome to the happy hunting grounds.'

Thanks, and I know what you mean. I don't know why more people aren't using the "freecam" in the latest expansion pack to make the stock scenes look unique.Noble Ire wrote:I'm pleasently suprised; to be frank, I'm not that big a fan of "The Movies" made films, but this one was quite well put together, and the action scene was quite well intergrated.
Hey, it worked in "Alien", too!And I liked the reveal. As you say, you don't want to give away the whole thing at once.
Really? That's the one from "Jedi Academy", and it has a ton of great detail. But when I use Fraps to film with, I have to set the game at 640x480.OmegaGuy wrote:I liked that, it was very nice. The only problem is that the Star Destroyer model looked a little lacking in detail, but that's probably because it was so close up.
Nope, just one Star Destroyer. No TIEs, nothin' else! Are we going to see any other Imperial ships or is this the only one?
Not exactly. On The Movies forums, someone brought up the "no lasers" argument, and on one of the Bridge Commander forums, the reception was so far positive but not when it came to how "easily" the Compliance was destroyed.Darth Servo wrote:Has there been any response from the traktards?
You can't see the stars? It may be because of Youtube. I'll load it on Myspace Video when I get home tonight. It seems to be clearer than Youtube or Google Video.Batman wrote:The complete lack of stars in the background was somewhat odd but otherwise quite nice, Wayne.
That's funny! I've heard about that Privateer Remake. My copy of Bridge Commander crashed several times while making this due to the ton of mods I've been sticking into it!And talk about the universe having a sense of humour- I've got Privateer Remake open in the background, and just when the ISD starts coming into view, a passing bounty hunter comments 'Welcome to the happy hunting grounds.'

Can we rightly assume you quickly redirected them the SDN?Lord Poe wrote:Not exactly. That's the typical reply you'll get from a standard Trekphile if you point out SDN.
