Is this Noah's Ark?

Is this Noah's Ark?
This is from another forum. It was given as evidence of Noah's Ark.
My question is, . . . what actually caused this geologic feature?

You know, real peer-reviewed archaeology research does not look like that.

Also could have been (if it's not photoshopped)...McC wrote:At a guess, I'd say the cause of this geologic feature is...

1) Plate Tectonics
2) Volcanism
3) Wind Erosion
4) Water Erosion
5) Landslides
6) Earthquakes
A geologist might be better equipped to answer the question though...

I've seen that picture before, and it may be legit. But it's also obviously dirt and rock. It's more wishful thinking than evidence.

I think it is more the fact that these people have been all over this thing and have yet to find, you know, an actual wooden timber. If that 'shape' was the depression of an ancient ship, there should be clear evidance of the wooden timbers. As it is, what they point to are formations that are obviously geological in nature.
More then that, do the '2 year old' test. Show this image to a 2yo and see what he says. Just looking at it, knowing nothing else, just looking at that shape, does 'boat' come to your mind immediatly?

It's a real feature in the area, and one that has supposedly been revered as being the ark for centuries; but that picture has been photoshopped indeed.Magnetic wrote:I thought it could be a photoshop-ed picture as well.McC wrote:At a guess, I'd say the cause of this geologic feature is...

The real thing is nowhere near as symmetrical, and it's had it's features exaggerated.
Looky!
Not so perfectly symmetrical when seen from above (towards the left of the photo).

Its a geoform called a "double-sloping anticline". Basically you had flat layers of rock, then it was bent into an "A" shape forming an arch, then the ends of the arch were bent downward. After that, erosion came into play. The "walls" of the "ship" are a more resistant/durable rock which doesn't erode like the sediments outside and inside.

Well, I asked for their evidence, and this is what they posted, another link.

There was a shoiw many years ago about that "Object" and they were suppose to have found metal in regular patterns. Could it be man-made for some purpose. Of course not a boat but it is an interesting feature.

Oh yeah? Well I say it's the remains of the battleship New Jersey thrown back in time!
It was taken to the past to fight in a war against the evil overlords of Atlantis you see! Come on, prove that this isn't the New Jersey, prove it!!
Oh yeah and this involves the face on Mars somehow.

This isn't necessarily a post where I'm not sure if I believe them or not, but one of, "look at the anemic claims they are clinging on to." I told them that IF they found petrified wood there, it could have come from anything. To bullseye any of this as "evidence of Noah's Ark" seems rediculous. The only pieces that MAY fit is that it's on a mountain, and there may be some wood.Stark wrote:Mag, you still fall into the trap of accepting these crazy claims. You shouldn't ask 'what caused this geological feature if NOT Noahs Ark', you should demand THEY prove it IS.

How is THIS for rich?
While debating on the other forum, the person actually stated (I asked proof of the flood) that anyone would understand and accept this information (the links I posted here) as fact, except atheist!!
In other words, you can't be a true Christian if you don't agree with the links, but are an atheist. Funny, I didn't accept it, yet I'm not an atheist.

Looks like an erosion crater; there is a huge one in Israel with a very, very similar formation, called Maktesh Ramon ("Ramon Crater"). Ironically enough, I know of it because that's where I did real archaeology, with careful measuring out, sector sketches, etc, at a pre-pottery Neolithic site from several thousand years ago.
Seeing the shape of a boat is just the human mind seeking to apply familiar (and desired) patterns in natural formations. Face on Mars, anyone?

Something about Libertarianism always bothered me. Then one day, I realized what it was:
Libertarian philosophy can be boiled down to the phrase, "Work Will Make You Free."
In Libertarianism, there is no Government, so the Bosses are free to exploit the Workers.
In Communism, there is no Government, so the Workers are free to exploit the Bosses.
So in Libertarianism, man exploits man, but in Communism, its the other way around!
If all you want to do is have some harmless, mindless fun, go H3RE INST3ADZ0RZ!!

Pictures of what, the Maktesh Ramon? I have a few pix but nowhere to host them (bad coyote! bad!~~ need to get free web page to host pix!). But it has nothing to do with this Ark thingy.Magnetic wrote:You wouldn't happen to have any links to some pictures, would you?

I really believe that he thinks this all is the truth. Personally, I think it looks like pussy lips.
Articles, opinions and rants from an astrophysicist: Cosmic Journeys
An interesting and dishonest tack to play with creation-tards would be to play the strong creationist skeptic; that is, say something like: "I believe the bible is literally true, I believe in the global flood, yadda yadda, but I don't see why this would have to be Noah's Ark, it looks like a load of Rock. Why should I believe this is anything to do with the word of God himself, and not just the bizarre claim of someone wanting to see a boat instead of some rock?" That way, they've got to deal with skepticism over a specific claim and not an entire worldview.
