Windows Updates Killed Mic?

Post by Exonerate »

Ok, so I thought my headset's mic was broken due to a hardware failure... Recently while I was trying to get my computer to work with Cisco Clean Access (Damn UCSB), I uninstalled several windows updates, and to my surprise, my mic started working again. And when I re-updated Windows, my mic stopped working again. The first time my mic stopped functioning was also right after I updated Windows, so I suspect that the updates are the culprit. I've googled around to see if anybody has been having the same problems, but I haven't found anything useful. Is there anybody out there who has heard of anything similar and how to resolve the problem?

Yeah, I had this too. Windows update fucked with the configuration. Ask Chris O'Farrell. He walked me through fixing it perfectly.

I messaged Chris for help, and although I'm not sure I had the same problem Alyeska had, messing around with the settings Chris told me to check helped. Goto Control Panel/Sounds & Audio/Audio Tab. Make sure your mic is selected as the input, then apply the settings. Mine already had it selected, but somehow going there fixed my problem.
