Breakdown of Vader in "Purge"
The story takes place only one month after RoTS.
Scenario- Vader is attempting to hunt down Obi Wan Kenobi, meanwhile, a group of Jedi congregate on Kessel at the behest of a Jedi Master who seeks to lure Vader into a trap. The Jedi are as follows:
Tsui Choi: Aleen male Jedi Master. He is seen earlier in the book ambushing and easily dispatching four clonetroopers attempting to hunt him down. He has a fighting style similar to Yoda.
Bultar Swan: Human female Jedi Master. She has great respect for Tsui Choi and helps Shadday organize the meeting. (EDIT: Bultar Swan makes an appearance in AoTC during the battle of Geonosis fighting battle droids.)
Shadday: Human female Jedi Master, organizer of the meeting who used a network of contacts to learn of Vader's obsession with Obi Wan Kenobi. She uses this infoirmation to lure Vader into a battle.
Roblio Darte: Human male Jedi Master.
Sia-Lann Wezz: Human female Jedi Knight.
Ma'Kis' Shaalas: Nikto male Jedi Master.
Koffi Arana: Human male Jedi Master. Exhibits the tell tale signs of falling to the dark side early in his dialogue.
Jastus Farr: Alien male Jedi of unknown species, uses a double bladed lightsaber. (EDIT: He is identical to the Jedi Brutes seen in the Ep III video game)
The battle proceeds as Shadday reveals she allowed the location of the gathering to be known to Vader, while also spreading the rumor that Obi Wan Kenobi was going to participate in order to lure Vader into the trap.
-Vader bursts in through a thick metal door
-Sia-Lann Wezz immediately charges Vader and is speared through the chest
-Vader amputates Wezz's saber handas she falls dead to the floor
-Darte, Arana, and Shaalas engage
-Vader tosses Arana with the Force while dueling with Darte and Shaalas
-Shadday is seen rushing into the fight holding a sword of some type as Arana is seen still flying backwards
-Vader inflicts a fatal wound across Shaalas' chest
-Jastus Farr comes from behind Vader and hits him in the back causing the armorweave cape to sizzle. It is hard to determine the extent of damage to Vader but it clearly injures him.
-Vader leaps over Arana's attack and ends up on a crane of some type many feet above where he was.
-Shadday attacks Vader with her sword, which turns out to be made of Cortosis.
-Vader discards his lightsaber as it has been rendered useless by the sword and siezes Shadday with the Force
-Vader grabs Shadday by the neck and snaps it, killing her instantly while also taking her sword.
-Vader leaps from above and Disables Darte's, Farr's, and Arana's lightsabers.
-Tsui Choi leaps into the fight and amputates Vader's sword hand
-Bultar Swan somes from the other side and inflicts a gash across Vader's left leg
-Vader backs away slightly and "surrenders."
-Arana is not fooled and becomes very angry. Bultar Swan tries to restrain him and states that the Jedi do not kill those who have surrendered.
-Arana takes Bultar Swan's lightsaber and kills her.
-Arana charges at Vader, Vader uses the Force and hurls his amuptated hand, still clutching the cortosis sword through the air and impaling Arana through the chest, killing him.
-Vader siezes Bultar Swan's lightsaber as Choi, Darte, and Farr begin hurling debris at him with the Force.
-Vader is hit in the face and armor with rocks and is forced to the ground, legs bent underneath him, he vows to kill the remaining Jedi. Sparks are visible from the left shoulder and the control panel on his chest.
-Clonetroopers arrive on a catwalk above the scene and open fire, killing Jastus Farr. Choi is able to deflect enough shots away from him with his lightsaber while Darte uses the metal door Vader smashed as a shield.
-Choi leaps up to the catwalk to take on the troopers but is caught by Vader who uses the force to hold him suspended in mid air. The stormtroopers then gun down Darte and Choi but not before Choi is able to toss his lightsaber at Vader, hitting him in the face.
-The damage to the helmet is significant, Vader's right eye is now exposed as is some of the flesh on his face. He is however, able to move under his own power.
The story ends with Vader being lectured by Palpatine on Coruscant, especially regarding how to prevent his anger from being used against him. Vader is also told to let go of his obsession with Kenobi, since it was part of his life as Anakin Skywalker.
EDITS: Updated info on Jastus Farr, as well as the unkown ranks and species with help from Old Plympto and Wookiepedia. I did not realize how many of these cahracters actually had previous appearances.

Thank you, I never saw Acts of War and i'll update the OP to reflect that.Old Plympto wrote:Tsui Choi should be an Aleena, if it's the same Tsui Choi from Acts of War.

Should I space the points out further to make it more readable? Or would that make the post unecessairly long?

It's a fucking retarded term used for a type of enemy (not villain, since you're playing as Anakin after he falls to the Dark Side) in the ROTS game. As is typical for video games, all enemy characters of the same type use the same model, which is all the more retarded since these Jedi were given a very distinctive alien look.FTeik wrote:Jedi-Brute?
The official fluff claims that these "Jedi Brutes" were physically large Jedi used as guard the Temple because their imposing appearance deterred enemies. This is retarded since physical size matters little when dealing with beings who wield lightsabers and can throw around several tons with telekinesis, and I doubt any Jedi would regard himself or fellow Jedi as "Brutes." Yes, games are low on the canon scale, but since it's uncontradicted I guess it's canon.

For regular outsiders, I don't think they'd think deeply about stuff like that. A Jedi + hulking size would easily equal "Stay away" to the average non-Jedi being.Jim Raynor wrote:This is retarded since physical size matters little when dealing with beings who wield lightsabers and can throw around several tons with telekinesis

I'm not clear on this... What is the point of this thread?

Indeed, in roleplaying game rulebooks, example situations will use characters made specifically for that purpose. Generally, they were originally characters that were actually used by the game designers during playtesting. These are referred to as "iconic" characters. Sia-Lan Wezz was the iconic Jedi Guardian for the SW d20 RPG. Wookiepedia mentions this.
I also noticed that in the rulebook examples, which take place shortly before the Clone Wars (the military creation act is still being debated) she's still a Padawan and looks a lot younger.. by Purge, she's a Master. I don't think it's possible in the 3-4 years of the Clone Wars for her to have ascended to Knight and trained a Padawan to Knighthood (the requisite for becoming a Jedi Master). A contradiction of sorts. Anyone have any insight on this?
Also, where was the out-of-universe image of the Jastus Farr created? Did the creation of his visual design (and character) precede the Ep3 video game, or is it the other way around?

To see how tough Vader actually is post RoTS. I'm thinking of compiling a huge chunk of information to support my position that Vader was not as diminished in his abilities as some people might think. If anything canon like this comes up for Obi Wan I may do the same also. I would have started with "Dark Lord" but of the Jedi in that book few of them could be considered combat adepts like the Jedi in "Purge".havokeff wrote:I'm not clear on this... Cykeisme, from what I gathered on her Wookiepedia entry (wiki, grain of salt much) they had Sia Lann listed as only a Jedi Knight, so that's what I put her down as until I read/hear otherwise from a better source.

It was only one issue of a comic, there needs to be several more like them at least, with far more in depth searching by Vader and more amputations via lightsaber. I liked "Purge", but it served only as an inkling of what I would like to see.

Purge was decent for what it was. No deep insight, no grand opera...it was basically a bit of Vader wank but it served a better purpose of demonstrating that Vader was still the premier Sith Lord in terms of fighting without the need to flip like a hopped up five year old.Darth Fanboy wrote:It was only one issue of a comic, there needs to be several more like them at least, with far more in depth searching by Vader and more amputations via lightsaber. Purge, in addition to being an utterly lackluster story, is host to one of the more unnecessary continuity glitches we've had. Which is strange, since Dark Horse is usually very good about that sort of thing.
Fun fact: every Jedi in the story is previously established in some form of media or another.

Not one that most will even catch, let alone care about.
Sia Lan Wezz, the Jedi with the hole in her heart on the cover, was previously established in the Galactic Campaign Guide as having been killed in battle after Yavin. The weird thing is everyone invoved knew this, but wrote her into the story anyway because Adam Hughs (the cover artist) wanted to depict her death on the cover.
It's very minor in the grand scheme of things, but it's very out of character for the Dark Horse folks, who handle continuity a thousand times better than Del Rey or LucasArts.
To be fair, though, at least they were up front about it. I believe Randy Stradley's comment on the matter was something along the lines of "suck it up." Which I can respect.

I'm fairly certain that in the example scene where the various iconic characters meet each other (in a cantina shootout on Coruscant, where an assassination was made on a Senator), Sia-Lan is explicitly stated to be a Padawan, and is also of less than seventh level in Jedi Guardian. The assassins were Separatist-backed terrorist.. the scene was set around AotC's timeline.Darth Fanboy wrote:Cykeisme, from what I gathered on her Wookiepedia entry (wiki, grain of salt much) they had Sia Lann listed as only a Jedi Knight, so that's what I put her down as until I read/hear otherwise from a better source.
As soon as I can get my hands on someone's RCR I'll dig up a quote; we could fix up the wiki then, too.
The Sia-Lan continuity conflict is mentioned on wookiepedia, right? It does indeed seem like it was, in the I-don't-give-a-shit "suck it up" way. I'd buy that.

Seeing as how she apparently survived the duration of the clone wars between AoTC and RoTS it seems reasonable that at some point during the conflict that she ascended to Jedi Knighthood then perhaps? This is the problem with tying up some of these loose ends that lower levels of canon have tried to establish.Cykeisme wrote:Sia-Lan is explicitly stated to be a Padawan, and is also of less than seventh level in Jedi Guardian. The problem is that she asceneds from Padawan to Master over the course of three years.

In Purge, the congregation consists entirely of Jedi Masters.
EDIT: Gah, you're right, I have no idea where I got even THAT idea. I guess she's a Knight in Purge, and there's no problem.
